I love this gate
I love this gate. I was looking for something that didn't break the bank, but also does the job and I don't have to worry about it. This is the one! It came with two extensions so I could have it fit perfectly. I ended up using the larger extension. We have it installed at the top of our stairs. The gate swings open and closed easily. I love the latch. It has a two way open system so my toddler can't even open it, but it's easy enough for my 5 year old too so I'm not having to open and close it all day for him. I had to take it down once to have a washer and dryer delivered and it was easy to remove, and just as easy to put back up again. Took me 1 minute. My only complaint is that with the extension, it doesn't seem to sit perfectly straight, no matter what I do. But it is sturdy and doesn't budge. I will definitely buy this gate again if we ever need another one!

Not for widths longer than 40 inches
I bought this to keep my new clumsily adorable pibble away from my Christmas tree. My foyer opening is 45” wide and although this says 50” it is quite flimsy as other reviews confirmed. I like the pop out door, super convenient, plus the option to have it tension mounted rather than having to drill into walls. However, I’ve had to add two square blocks to each side about 2” thick each to keep the gate study when the dogs try to push against it. I would recommend buying the extra extension for this unit if your doorway is wider than 40”. Gave it 4 stars bc it was easy to assemble, looks good, material is sturdy and tension mount option. Would’ve been 5 stars had the gate actually been longer and the extra length wasn’t attributed to just a think screw that adds pressure to mount on each side.

Love it
We have had this now more than a year & still works great & looks great. This is right near my main doors, so it's opened & closed about eleventy billion times a day. It still works great, it was easy to install & it's shown NO marks despite my preschooler being less than kind to it. It's also where we carry groceries in, and covers the stairs too...so if you go outside or upstairs, you pass through it...an tons of things have been carried through, bumping it, hitting it (sometimes hard) and still, no major marks, scratches, the mechanism sometimes gets a little wonky and I just retighten the adjusters for the wall attachment & all good. I would expect to have to adjust any gate that get this level of use out a busy family of 5. Just for myself I bet I pass through that gate at least a dozen times a day on regular days & maybe twice that on busy days. VERY pleased.

Works very well!
This gate works very well. At first I was very frustrated... before I installed it there was a pretty big gap between the side of the gate and the locking mechanism. Well, needless to say, it states right in the instructions (which I usually don't read) that the gap is normal, and that it will correct itself once installed. I'm happy to say it works perfectly. I've read a few reviews saying it's not sturdy. It's actually very sturdy, but the funny this is, it doesn't *look* sturdy at all at each end where it's pressure mounted! I had a little bit of bigger gap at the ends than I would like (even with the provided extension installed), so the mounts extend about 4-5" to the wall. I didn't bother installing the mounting cups...I didn't want to drill holes in my wall; it works perfectly without them. So like I said before, it doesn't look sturdy at all...but looks can be deceiving. My little one is very strong and she has violently shaken it many times now. It does move slightly forward and backward, but it hasn't fallen or come loose from the wall at the pressure mounts. I would definitely recommend this gate!

*** Disregard the Negative Reviews - Installed Properly This Is Amazing!!!
I've been trying to understand all the negative reviews of this item. I don't quite understand it and I have to put it down to people not understanding how to install it properly. This is a sturdy metal gate with two extensions, one for either side. I have a 43.5" opening to my back hallway. I needed an extra wide gate so i picked one up at a local store. It was very high and was very, very hard to step over. I decided I needed one with a gate for walking through. I found this one here on Amazon but balked when reading some of the reviews about it being "a plastic piece of junk", "unsteady and easily pushed over", etc. I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt since I'm on prime and could receive it quickly and make my own judgement. I figured I'd return either the one I bought locally or this one depending on how it went. Installation: For my opening (again 43.5") I needed one of the extenders. They are two different sizes and I used the bigger of the two. Maybe some of the people who had stability issues with the gate used the wrong size extender? IDK... So the gate has these threaded rods you spin to close the gap between the extender and the wall. They are really easy to adjust because they have adjustment knobs built right in. NOTE*** - People mentioning that the gate and latch don't line up may have not realized that they do have a gap but once it is tightened in place, that gap closes up. So looking at the gate out of the box you could say it doesn't line up properly but once tightened up and in place it's lined up perfectly. Within 5 minutes I had this thing tightened up and installed just fine. The swinging gate works like a champ and the locking mechanism is easy to use. I did read about people having problems with the latch but you basically just pull back the latch release on top and lift the gate up to open. You have to lift it because it has a piece that goes over the bottom rail to keep the gate steady on the bottom end. One thing I didn't do is screw the wall receivers into the wall. It comes with screws to do this but I wanted to check out the functionality before screwing them in. To anyone saying that a child or anyone else could knock this over, obviously didn't screw the wall receivers into a solid wooden part of the wall. If they had, you'd have to bend the entire gate to get it out of those and "knock it over". So.... Sorry for the long review but I hate seeing products get slammed for peoples failings in installation. I seriously wanted to pass on this item but I'm very glad I didn't. Worth the price and I won't be face planting in the middle of the night headed to the bathroom anymore.

What a game changer!
I wish I had stumbled upon this sooner. My parents got a new golden retriever puppy this year who is very energetic. I watch him every other week to give them a break, they forgot how demanding puppies are and are now in their 60s to early 70s so they don’t move around as quickly as they used to. Unfortunately for me and the puppy, our house is a fraction of the size of house my parents have and they don’t have 3 cats like we do. Every type of barrier I’d put up, Murphy (the pup) found a way to break thru so I had to find a better solution. My parents have the stationary gates up but are a pain to move So I came online looking for another option. Low and behold, I found this baby gate and it has changed my life. I now can separate the cats from the puppy as well as keep the puppy away from their food. My only gripe is that I have to put two chairs on ether side of the gate so my cats can get over it, wish I had known about the baby gates with pet doors included, lol. Oh well, nothing a small hacksaw can’t take care of. Well worth it’s price in gold, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another, which I did for my parents.

This gate changed our lives.
Okay, that might be a slight exaggeration, but only a slight one. We use this to keep our small dog from going downstairs. We got it to replace the box we'd been using since we made an impulsive decision to rescue a thirteen-pound Havanese mix. After a few weeks, he finally scrambled over the box (there's only one place in the house he's ever peed, and it's behind the downstairs couch) and I scrambled to find a "baby gate" we could use at the top of the stairs. We have carpeting and a banister, so a lot of things would not work. And it had to have a gate (because, hey, top of the stairs). This one had good reviews, came with two adjustable panels, and was reasonably priced, so we gave it a try. My husband had it installed in less than twenty minutes. I helped him by holding one piece while he held another and put in the door's hinge pin, then he took care of the rest. (I'm very short and would have needed more help, he probably could have done it alone.) We used the smallest panel and it was a tight fit, but he made it work. We both love the plastic side pieces because they don't leave a mark. We rent, so we haven't tried to screw it to the wall (on the wall side), although we might need to do that when the grandbaby comes. The door is easy to open. Make sure to actually latch it or the gate could bend. I recently had to take the gate out for a furniture delivery and was able to get it back pretty easily by myself (I didn't need to take it apart where the hinge is). I couldn't tighten the bottom screw, but the fit was tight enough everywhere else that it was fine from 1:00 to 3:00, even when I had to open the gate. (By then, our dog was resigned to not being able to get downstairs, so those few hours didn't result in a catastrophe.) And we no longer have to step over that darn box. Life is good.

This is a nice gate, it says it fits up to 52" ...
This is a nice gate, it says it fits up to 52" and included are a 6" and 12" extenders for added versatility. So I thought the gate itself was 52" and you could add the extenders for more but it's 52" with the extenders. For it to fit the porch like i needed it too I had to put a couple blocks up to make it more stable as it was wobbly. They have a bigger one, but like I said I read it to be the extenders would extend it beyond the 52" I could have sent it back to get the wider one but I could make it work. It will serve its purpose of keeping a fostered greyhound on the porch without a leash.. so all is great!

Great for our needs
Works great for the bottom of our stairs. The posts are 41 1/2 inches apart. We used the gate and 12" extension. We had to place in on the first step instead of the ground since it wasn't going to hold on the curved part of our posts. I used the screws and mounts it came with and so far the hold is super secure. Works great for our dogs and toddlers. Our smallest dog is a 5 lb runt and he can't fit between the bars. Largest dog is almost 90lbs and it holds well when she jumps up and puts her front paws on it. The toddlers (18m and 3y) haven't gotten extremities stuck between the bars, or figured out the latch yet like baby gates of the past so I have high hopes for this. The latch is tight and requires more muscle then the last gate we had, but my 6 and 9 year olds are now able to open it (after repeatedly trying) on their own. I was worried at first, since I can't always jump up and do it for them, but they got the hang of it. Many reviews complain about the latch not being attached when it arrives, and being spaced to far apart, but that is how all gates like this work. The latch comes together when it's tightened. You'll know the gate is secure when the latch fits together. Also, the gate does open in both directions. That makes it easier to install since you don't have to worry if it's facing the right way. For the price, and with our needs, I think this was a great buy.

Works like a charm.
I cannot speak for how this works as a child gate. I bought it for my mom as a way to keep her cat sectioned off at night in the large bathroom. Mom has trouble sleeping and the cat walking all over her head at night wasn't helping. He has a big cushion in the garden tub that he naps on throughout the day, so I figured he wouldn't mind sleeping on it at night. Anyhow, it has worked wonderfully, The fat cat can't get through the spindles and Mom can easily open it to get to the bathroom during the night. During the day, the little swinging door is kept open so the cat can come and go at will. In order to fit the opening, I needed every extension and still needed to tighten the wall braces to the point that I thought it might provide too much of an opening for the cat. At some point he did manage to get through, but he's never done it since then. Not sure if he forgot or if it was too difficult and not worth the effort. I chose not to use the rubber wall mounts. I didn't want to drill holes, and there is outside corner moulding on either side, so even if the tension slips, it won't go far. P.S. I've tried to add photos, but they are appearing sideways. :-( I've tried from both Chrome and Firefox. They are downloaded right side up, but when I upload them to the review, they appear sideways. What up? (Not my pics! bahahahaaaaa!) Once review posts, I'll see if I can go back in and add them. Maybe it'll work.
