excellent and easy to use product that solves a real ...
With electric step mechanisms in RV's failing after use at the mounting brackets a WIDELY reported and expensive problem on the RV forums...this little device can save your steps AND place the support for them firmly on the ground rather than on the brackets. Comes with the 2 nuts & bolts needed to mount to bottom step. Make SURE you mount it so it folds up ACROSS the step rather than in a front to back of the RV direction. MANY steps fold up by first dipping down or staying flat and moving horizontally before folding up. The step brace must be free to pivot up if this happens by accident or due to forgetfulness. My buddy did his the wrong way and had to change it up due to scraping on the ground when the steps went up if he forgot about the support. That said...excellent and easy to use product that solves a real problem.

Nice upgrade.
This works as advertised. Saves me the hassle of traveling with my other step support that wasn’t permanently attached. Two things to watch out for when installing: 1) Make sure it is mounted in a spot that allows the step to return to its storage position. My step has a metal bar across the mount which required some positioning checks before drilling holes. This metal strip gets in the way a bit which forced me to mount it further back under the step than I originally thought I would mount it. Check and check again to be sure. 2) Be sure the swing arm will snap into the holder if you have a carpet pad on the step which uses springs to hold it in place. It is able to snap into the locking clips with the carpet piece pushed up inside it. I wish I could have mounted two, but the above mentioned metal support bar wouldn’t allow it as the step is also curved a bit. All said, it fits great and works great. More “reach” to the ground than my other one.

Great upgrade for my steps.
Very happy. This takes the shake out of entering and leaving my fifth wheel. It also makes the steps feel much more solid. Easy to install, just drill 4 holes. I used pan head stainless steel 1/4 inch screws instead of the hardware supplied.

The bracket is fine but the end of the base does not fit flat to the bottom of the step. I have to remove the base in order to store rest of the bracket in the clip. The bottom step has a curve at the front instead of being a complete rectangle.

Easy Install of the Self-Stor Step
Once I received the SSS (Self-Stor Step) I reviewed the contents and set about installing. The SSS comes with very little guidance and I understand why. Too many variables with multiple step manufactures and RV models. Also absent is any hardware. So I went to my local hardware and purchased 4 stainless steel button head 1/4-20 by 5/8" bolts, self locking nuts and 6 flat washers. I pre-drilled the existing mounting holes in the SSS to accommodate a 1/4 inch bolt. I flipped my lower step up, located the SSS, c-clamped it down and drilled the SSS hinge side. I installed the bolts and tightened them in place. That held the SSS while I drilled the clip side holes. I installed the remaining bolts and I was finished. I used one flat washer at each inside nut location. I used the remaining two under the bolt head at the clip location. And I feel the SSS is a very nice addition which makes my RV steps stable and SAFE. I prefer using Stainless Steel hardware as the powder coat will cause enough rust on its own someday.

Great stabilization for your steps
I noticed after our first trip out with our new camper just how much flex the original steps had when going in or out of the trailer. Even with the trailer stabilizers down the camper still rocked. I really like how heavy duty this is built. It feels really solid and strong. I also like how it self stores on the steps so that I don't have to put it somewhere each time we move. I did have to drill one hole to mount it to my steps because it did not line up perfectly with the holes already in my steps. The "foot" is threaded for nearly unlimited adjustment and securely clamps into the mounting bracket to store. I believe this stabilizer will really reduce the flex and movement of the steps and trailer.

My friends and I both bought used campers at the same time. Her steps were very wobbly compared to mine but I wanted to prevent mine getting like hers so I purchased 4 (2 for their camper and 2 for mine). These are soooo easy to install and make a HUGE difference!!! Very happy with my purchase and highly recommend!!

Better than expected
No problem installing. Just drilled two holes in the bottom step and attached with the screws provided. I'm a big guy so I feel much safer with this product installed. It easily adjusts to different heights.

Makes that last step not feel like rubber.
Easy to install. My only complaint is that the fine thread pitch makes adjustment take like 15 seconds longer than it should. Sometimes they are a hair long for my camper if I'm parked on an uneven surface. Still an easy and wonderful addition to my camper. Would install again and again.
