Very simple to operate. I bought this for my senior father, who likes technology as long as it's SIMPLE. This HP fax machine is VERY simple. Loading paper, changing toner cartridges, and sending faxes is easy. I set up the machine in less than 10 minutes and programmed my fax number into the speed dial (I'm the only person he faxes). Great machine. Great price. Has more features than he'll ever need (broadcast fax, delayed fax, speed dial directory), but easy enough to perform basic fax functions.

Why have faxes dissapeared from stores.? I just wanted a simple fax. Already hace copier printer, etc, all in one..... Just needed a fax and office max, staples n depot charge you over. $1 per page. When lot to fax.........ugh. I found this item here cheaper than retailers by $35. Free shipping. Uses hp ink. Set up a joke. Totally recommend. Plus it makes copies

Fantastic Fax Machine

This is a great little fax machine. I am refinancing my home and working on becoming the administrator for my elderly mothers affairs and I have found that banks prefer that you fax rather than email documents because of their size. After one trip to the bank to use their fax machine I decided to purchase my own. It was up and running in a matter of minutes. It is compact and fits in a cubbyhole in my computer hutch and doesn't take up much space.

EASY TO HOOK UP AND USE

I BOUGHT THIS TO REPLACE ANOTHER HP FAX THAT I WAS RELUCTANT TO CHANGE BECAUSE OF THE INK AND THE LEARNING CURVE. AS IT TURNED OUT, NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER WITH THE INSTALLATION. I DID NOT HAVE TO SPEND TIME READING THE MANUAL AND EXCEPT FOR TAKING THE INK CARTRIDGES BACK FOR CREDIT FOR THE NEW INK CARTRIDGES, NO WASTE OF TIME. THE INK CARTRIDGES FOR THIS ARE PRICEY BUT WORTH IT.

Great Small FAX

I find this small FAX machine to be very good. It's easy to program and you can leave it plugged in to use if you don't send or receive a lot of FAX's. It prints out a report when you send a FAX. I'm happy and satisfied. I'm also not a super techie, so I appreciate the ease it took to set up and program. Just read the directions in the book.

Pro Quality FAX is Great

Have had this machine for a few weeks now and use it often. It is perfect for sending documents, etc. to and from Doctors or Businesses that require a FAX or that can not send you an e-mail due to confidentiality rules. The only drawback that I have found is the included ink cartridge is only a starter so I had to buy a regular one. It should last a very long time but HP could do better by including a real one with the FAX. Had one like this at my office and it never gave any trouble so I purchased it to use here at home. The quality is excellent on the output print and the features are all useful. It does not have a "received tray" but a cardboard tab to catch the incoming FAX under the machine does the job if it's on a shelf. On a table or desk, that is no issue. I would highly recommend this machine to anyone needing a home FAX machine at a reasonable cost. Just go ahead and bite the bullet and buy a regular cartridge when you get it and you're done.

HP2140 Plain Paper Fax Machine

This is a nice little fax and it works with plain paper, which is a plus. I needed a little help with setting it up. HP wasn't much help. I had to call three times and finally got it set up by myself. I had a very difficult time understanding the "overseas" help that so many companies use today. I still don't know if it works because I haven't received any faxes yet.

Simple, compact, and fast

This is a great fax machine. It's sleek, and compact, making it easy to place on any desk. It's made by HP, people known to make printers (in fact, my current all in one printer is by HP), so you know you're getting a good fax machine. The price! It's one of the main things that drew me in! It's so darn cheap for what it is! Ok, perhaps this isn't a high end office fax, but for home, this thing is near perfect! It even uses printer ink cartridges which are easy to buy and find, instead of those fax printing films that are expensive and can be found in certain places. Not to mention they print real quick; receives and sends faxes in a instant, while keeping quiet! Now for the cons. The fax can only hold 15 8.5x11 standard papers. That may seem a bit on the low side for some people. Also, it has a small LCD screen and a few buttons for system navigation. This perhaps maybe very frustrating. Especially for those that aren't on the machine/computer literate side. Lastly, there's no answering machine. I suppose this is optional, but I was so use to my old fax machine having one, that I was kinda disappointed to find that this one didn't have one. Overall though, it's for home faxing, I must say, this thing is a steal

Great Fax Machine, Great Purchase!

March 29, 2011 I purchased this fax machine for my business, so it does get a lot of use. I received this fax machine and set it up on March 1, 2011, since then I have sent over 50 faxes, and all of them have been good, no issues at all. The fax machine itself is pretty low profile, and does not take a lot of room which I like, as I always seem to be tight on space. I am completely satisfied with this purchase. I read some of the other reviews saying the ink is too expensive or runs out too fast, I cannot comment on this as I do no use this to receive faxes but to send only so my review is based only for the functions I do use. However ink is always expensive with any printer or fax machine so you should expect that, and there are cheap generic alternatives for the ink. I will update again if the fax machine has any issues in the future. UPDATE November 23, 2011 I send several faxes a day for work, and the fax machine is still going strong and the quality of the faxes on the receiving end has yet to be an issue. Still very happy with the purchase. UPDATE May 31, 2012 Still very pleased with my purchase. No Complaints here! UPDATE October 20, 2012 Still can't complain. UPDATE February 13, 2014 Almost three years later this fax machine is still going strong and doing everything I need. Even if it broke today it is worth every penny since I have used it constantly over the past 3 years.

Not a printer

Just warning everyone that this is NOT a printer. I bought it mainly for the fax and copier modes but I actually had thought it was a printer too. It isn't but that's fine because I only wanted the FAX anyway. It does work fine at Faxing. Copying isn't quite as high resolution as the original but it is great to just make a quick copy of something.
