This maybe the best $25 i ever spent on product. I actually very pessimistic initially and set my expectation lower on this since i already had waterpik and happy with that. However this product exceeded even my expectation for battery power jet water, it spray comparable pressure of water with waterpik (which use 220VAC power outlet), and it's really portable and easy to bring it when travelling as i have been done it few times, so it's really useful! This product uses 2 AA battery which can last for 3-4 weeks before the power really drop, remind you that we use this everyday and to be honest i don't expect it to last more than 2 weeks initially, but it seems Panasonic double my expectation on this! The water container is well measure so it doesn't not too much nor less for what we need to clean whole mouth/teeth so the amount of water on the container is perfect and the size just about right especially with collapsible body. At first I thought the handle is slightly bigger for easy to use but it's not at all, even my 9 years son can easily handle and use this device. The only thing i can think to make this perfect is if it comes with different type of nozzle like waterpik so we can change it to smaller/brush type, etc - however i have never had an issue with 1 standard size supplied with this item - all just perfect! The slider to choose for water pressure provide 2 options only which is mostly i set it to 1 (lowest), unless the battery over 3 weeks already or need more pressure for clean up sometimes. So the lowest fair ratings i can give on this item is 5 stars!!!

I love this panasonic portable dental water flosser or pik. It's great has two speeds and it is battery operated by 2 AA. It compact to fit in your carry on and does not take up space. Nor do you have to worry about adapters if traveling overseas. Just bring extra AA batteries. I saw that Panasonic was offering a newer version of this one but at double the price and its a plug-in rechargeable battery. For the price of the newer one I bought two of the EW-DJ10-A before they discontinue it for the new and improved one. Also what great about this just purchase extra nozzles for other member of your family to use. Just put little dots of different color nail polish so you know which one is yours. Even my dentist is interested in this product because it is not bulky like other piks on the market. So if you have limited space in the bathroom or you travel a lot or both. I highly recommend this product. Also because it does not need an outlet no worries because there is no long cords. User friendly for children.

By any measure, this is a superior product. I recommend it to anyone and everyone. First of all, I have found that ANY decent model of oral irrigator / aqua flosser successfully removes more bits of food / debris from between my teeth than simply brushing and flossing alone. Try this yourself by brushing and flossing, and THEN using your oral irrigator/aqua flosser, particularly after a meal which leaves a lot of debris stuck to your teeth and along your gum line, and when you spit into the sink, you will see what I mean. I have only my personal experience to back up this hypothesis, but I strongly believe that persons who use an oral irrigator / aqua flosser regularly after eating will have healthier teeth and gums in the long run than persons who do not use one. I plan on living as long as the rest of my body will allow, so dental care has become a very high priority in my life. Take care of your teeth (and body) now and they will take care of you! The best thing about using an oral irrigator, perhaps, is that it takes very little additional time out of your day – 30 seconds per session is sufficient in my experience. I use my oral irrigator after each time I eat (after every meal and snack), allowing me to clean between my teeth, eliminate the buildup of would-be cavity-causing foodstuffs wedged between my teeth and along the gum line, and also avoid excessive brushing (I still brush 2-3x per day). Combine this oral irrigator with a Sonicare or similar high quality electric toothbrush and Oral B Glide dental tape (wider and more shred-resistant than standard/cheap dental floss – it will remove more debris and is less likely to make your gums bleed), and, depending on your diet, your dentist / hygienist will tell you that you are doing a PERFECT job of taking care of your teeth. I just went in for a dental cleaning – it had been a full calendar year since my last one – and my hygienist reported, highly impressed, that I had very little plaque or tartar and was doing an excellent job at caring for my teeth and gums. NOW THEN, WHY IS THIS PANASONIC MODEL SUPERIOR TO ITS COMPETITORS? I see THREE REASONS, right off the bat: FIRST: it is powered by REMOVABLE AA cell batteries. This means that the life of this oral irrigator is not limited to the lifespan of an internal rechargeable battery. Most models of oral irrigators I have seen rely on internal batteries, which are often Ni-MH or Ni-Cad, which will degrade over time. (In fact, before I bought this Panasonic model, I purchased a Waterpik brand oral irrigator from Target, about 2 years ago. I have been very pleased with this model, but by now the battery life is beginning to diminish noticeably. It still does a great job of cleaning between my teeth and along the gum line, but it is on the decline, and it also takes up twice as much space in my little medicine cabinet as compared with the Panasonic model.) That being said, I recommend using RECHARGEABLE AA cell batteries, for the savings in $$, time, electricity/energy, and waste, as compared with disposable alkaline AA cells. AND, if you are traveling internationally and don’t have access to electrical power, you can swap out batteries or find disposable alkaline AA cells in many countries. P.S. the tool-free battery compartment with O-ring stays tightly shut & waterproof, but is easy to open with a coin or washer or similar item. SECOND: this unit collapses to take up minimal space when not in use. I find this just as useful when traveling as when I am at home, because it is extremely space-efficient. THIRD: Because of the way the water intake straw is designed (it is spring-loaded and reaches to the very bottom of the water compartment), this model of oral irrigator provides a steady stream of water until the tank is essentially completely empty. Some other models of oral irrigator, such as my original Waterpik one, do not do so well in this regard. My only critique thus far is that there is no carrying case included, but for this price point (I paid $27 on Amazon for my Panasonic model in May 2016 and then as a Christmas present for a family member, I bought a second one and paid $30 on Newegg in December 2016 – both quite a bit cheaper than the Waterpik model I purchased a couple of years prior), this is a fantastic model of oral irrigator / aqua flosser, and, hey, Ziploc bags are ubiquitous, cheap, and come in a wide range of sizes. I recommend carrying it in a Ziploc bag if you are traveling between uses, to keep remaining drips of water from spilling into your suitcase / backpack. And I do like the 2 water pressure settings (low and high pressure), which my original Waterpik model also has. BATTERY LIFE: I am highly impressed: the first one month of use, “aqua flossing” after each meal and snack, I was able to get an ENTIRE MONTH out of my Panasonic oral irrigator before recharging the batteries. This is WAY BEYOND the capacity of my Waterpik model, which (as stated in the user’s manual) should be charged twice weekly if using it 2 or more times per day. So there you have it, folks! I rarely write product reviews but have been so mightily impressed by the design and features and capabilities of this Panasonic oral irrigator that I couldn’t help but share my experience with the world. Hopefully it at least inspires you to buy / ask for and begin using an aquaflosser regularly. You won’t regret it, and your teeth and gums will feel noticeably cleaner after each post-meal use. Best Regards, David S., Montana, U.S.A.

After years of neglect I have been diagnosed with gum disease. I had a root scaling and planing and continued with my bad habits thinking that the problem will disappear. Later I was told I should have gum flap surgery. All four quarters. Scheduled the very next week. 12mm pockets. $5,000. Awesome! So I went home and started researching the disease and treatment options. As a result I canceled that idiotic surgery, decided to drastically change my oral hygiene, had another root scaling and planing, and made an appointment for a LANAP procedure. My routine included now brushing (with a Philips Sonicare FlexCare Rechargeable Sonic Toothbrush, every time with a different all-natural fluoride-free toothpaste - I've tried several brands and settled on 5-6 of them), flossing, using Doctor's Brushpicks, 275 Count (Pack of 4), chewing xylitol gum (again, tried several brand and settled on Epic (like this one but I buy in bulk from their website - Epic Dental 100% Xylitol Sweetened Gum, Peppermint, 12 Count (Pack of 12)), replacing all sugar with xylitol, etc. etc. and of course using an oral irrigator. I bought the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser initially. And when it broke I bought another one. And when I had to travel I realized I have to get something more portable. So I found this Panasonic irrigator. And it shortly became my main irrigator, as the Waterpik collects dust somewhere in a closet. This is a great unit. I have had it for 3 years now, and it still works perfectly. It works for a very long time (3-4 weeks) with one set of batteries - I use it with Eneloops. It becomes very compact when collapsed, so it is great for traveling. It is very maneuverable, much more that the Waterpik (limited by the hose lenght and rigidness). It is very easy to clean, as it comes apart very easily, and it has a very short water circuit (with the Waterpik I would always run it for a few seconds before using it because there was stale and stinky water inside the system - oh, the junk that took out of the Waterpik once!!! imagine that inside your mouth!!!). The reservoir is good size - could be a little bigger but it would defeat the portability purpose, so it's not bad - just fill it once more! It has 2 power settings, and the water pressure is adequate, not only for a battery operated unit, but for a water flosser in general. Some people complain that the Waterpik (which is more powerful than this one) is not powerful enough. Well, unless you are trying to unglue your gums or dislocate your teeth or clean your bathroom with it, this is more than enough. I am a firm believer that the irrigator has to be used in conjunction with other means of oral hygiene, and not replace them entirely. So I floss, use the brushpicks and the irrigator (very often with a distilled water / hydrogen peroxide mix). Most of the above I used religiously after every single meal. I became almost obsessed with the hygiene to the point that I would avoid snacking if I knew I couldn't clean my teeth afterwards. But it all paid off! Within a few months I went for my LANAP evaluation and was told that there is no need for a full scale procedure anymore, only localized for one single deep pocket. Imagine that! Now it's 3 years later and I am free of any gum disease, and all my pockets are 3mm now. I still continue to employ most of the above techniques, and this Panasonic is an integral part of it. All in all, this is a highly recommended item!

Update: A year and a half later and it’s still great! I've used this type of products for 20+ years. I've now had three battery-powered or rechargeable items. This is the best one I've used. It's strong and very compact. It's great for travel, which the others I've had are not. Great, great product.

+ Compact size, easy to store + Clear instructions + Easy to use Long time Panasonic consumer products customer recently recommended a Waterpik by my dental hygienist. Our bathroom has limited countertop space so this space saving portable model was chosen. Amazon shipped quickly & after one month’s usage I can say it has met and surpassed my expectations in every regard. Obviously it is too early to comment on longevity. Using the flosser at least twice a day, sometimes three or more times a day, the included alkaline batteries began losing power after a couple weeks so I switched to a pair of Panasonic rechargeable batteries, after which the flosser ran faster than ever before. I’m no authority on rechargeable batteries but understand they run a flatter power curve than alkaline, i.e., with a less gradual power drop off. I agree with other reviewers who say this unit can be somewhat messy to use but you learn to manage it as you go along, and I can’t imagine any other water flosser being any less messy. The fact that the tip freely rotates 360 degrees really helps as you can either redirect the tip during use or turn off, redirect the tip, then turn on again. I began using it on pressure setting #1 and I never ran out of water after two full trips around my teeth; uppers and lowers, inside and out, plus water left over. After the first couple days I switched to pressure setting #2 and still get two full trips around my teeth as before, so I’m satisfied with the volume of water it holds. I can’t speak as to whether a higher pressure model would be any more effective at massaging the gums or pushing food away from the teeth. Since we have extremely hard water I use distilled water for flossing and hydrogen peroxide for cleaning the unit, but I imagine there are any number of combinations of water and/or mouthwash, etc., which you could run through the flosser. Once the water filler door popped off when drying the flosser, and a couple times I ended up spraying the wall or mirror with water while learning the procedure. Other than that the only hiccough is one described below which others have previously commented on. The locking mechanism which holds the two halves apart partially releases whereby the lower water receptacle/cartridge is partially sucked up into the upper housing caused by the vacuum built up in the lower half as the water is drawn from it. Initially this manifests itself in a popping action which can be somewhat disconcerting, however with use this smoothes out whereby the two parts slowly slide together a little. Something like a pressure relief valve in the water receptacle/cartridge might solve that. This does not have any negative effect on the overall utility of the product and can be ignored. If you harbor doubts about the effectiveness of waterflossers eat some volume of any dark dark food (blueberries, bacon, Oreos, etc.) then brush, then floss, then waterfloss - you'll see the difference. This is another excellent product from Panasonic.

I hadn't used a product like this since WaterPik came on the market long ago, back when I had no cavities, dental work, or periodontal woes. Flossing has become a necessary part of the process of brushing my teeth, like it or not. But I've had floss shred and get jammed between my teeth, many times. And running out of floss, because not being able to see what's left in those dispensers, getting a one inch strand - no more! My dentist recommended products like the Panasonic Water Flosser, so I bought one here on Amazon. I was immediately wowed by how much "stuff" was removed from between my teeth the first time I used this product, and I continue to be pleased with how well this product works for me. My mouth feels more clean after brushing when I use the Water Flosser. I usually need to refill it to do the job, but I'm at the sink anyway so NBD. I like its portability and the promised long life of the replaceable (affordable) nozzles, and it's nice to have the first round of batteries be included by the manufacturer. I have no "cons" about this product.

I just bought a Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser and, comparing the two, I would say that this little unit does a great job. There are only 2 settings, but the higher setting is comparable to the higher settings on the Waterpik - maybe 8 or 9 on the Waterpik scale. It's very compact and I will definitely find room for it in my travel bags. The down side is that there is only one head, the water reservoir is limited, and the batteries will only last a couple months - all of which are totally reasonable given the compact size. I have it in the tiny bathroom that has no room for the Waterpik. Really a great product - highly recommended!

I received this pretty quickly for Super Saver Shipping. I am really impressed with it. As I've aged my teeth have become very crooked and it was hard to clean in between with just brushing. My bathroom is very small and I have no counter space, just a Pullman style sink. So, this is perfect for me, as it works very well and does not require much space. I am amazed at how well it cleans my teeth, and even after brushing, it removes particles that my toothbrush missed. When it arrived, I inserted a dollar store AA battery, which has lasted almost two months. I just replaced the battery for the first time. I use the irrigator at least once a day and often twice a day. The contoured box it came in provides a great place to drain and store it in between uses. This was a really good buy. Thank you Amazon! 8/25/15: I just wanted to update my review with a cautionary note. I've used this every day since I bought it in 2013 and it has been a wonderful addition to my oral hygiene. My gums are a lot healthier than they used to be. However, mine just died and it was my fault that it did. I periodically soak it in a weak bleach water solution to rid it of any mildew that accumulates. I don't have to do this often as I saved the inner cardbaard packaging which allows me to leave this open after used and let it drain. However, at times, it does get some mildew under areas where parts overlap. This last time I soaked it, I forgot to close the battery compartment, from which I had removed the batteries. It got wet and now doesn't work. My fault! It has worked well and faithfully for the last two years. I'll let it dry some more and see if it starts to work again. If not, I will definitely order another as it has become an essential part of my daily routine and makes such a difference in my oral care and health.

I bought this to replace a portable waterpik, whose non-replaceable rechargeable batteries eventually died. It was sad to have to destroy a perfectly working waterpik to tear out 2xNiMH rechargeable batteries same as you'd buy in a store. I vowed not to make that mistake again and found this flosser with replaceable batteries. I've had this exactly 2 months and it took about 6 weeks to go through the initial alkalines that came in it and I'm using Energizer recharge power plus 2300 mAh in it and they work just as well and still going strong 2 weeks in. Since the batteries last so long, and I have enough spares to always have a charged set when I need them, it's not any less inconvenient than finding the plug and plugging in one with built-in batteries every few weeks. Compared to the waterpik, the power is pretty equivalent to my old portable waterpik. It might be a little less, or maybe the tip is different -- I feel the Panasonic is less of a tight jet and more of a thick jet of spray. But it still seems to remove everything brushing missed, so is probably just as effective. We'll have to see at my next dentist visit in the summer. Otherwise, this costs about half the price, seems to work as well or close to it, and it's far more portable. The fact it collapses and stores its own tip makes it travel FAR easier than the waterpik, although I bought this for daily use. The noise and function is basically identical to my old waterpik.
