Are they really French?
Let me start by saying that I love my Berard utensils and was contemplating yet another purchase when I ran across a number of comments about their pedigree; specifically that the products are made in Tunisia or Albania and not in France. I too was skeptical. After all, aren't I paying top dollar for French artisanship? I decided to contact Berard directly about this matter. Here is the response I received: "To craft our olivewood items, you have to go where the olive trees are grown. At this time, we are making most of them in Tunisia under the supervision of our French artisans. They determine which item will be made from each piece of wood and so on. As the trees stop bearing fruit, the farmers sell them to us instead of just destroying them so we make great use of them and they’re able to then plant new ones." This explanation settled the matter in my book. The representative stated that the company must be honest about where the products come from and I appreciate that. It makes perfect sense to me that one would go where the raw materials are rather than exporting them from a source country and then importing them into France for production. This practice would result in higher costs (and higher prices for you and me) along with an increased carbon footprint. I've now purchased nine Berard utensils and am awaiting my tenth (the ladel). Each is as beautiful as it is functional. I wouldn't trade them for anything.

Wonderful Spoon (and ladies don't let your men use these as paint stirrers!)
I have been looking for a "pointy" wooden spoon for ages and not just any spoon but a quality wood spoon. Love it. Years ago I had a lovely pointy spoon from Williams & Sonoma...that is until my boyfriend decided he needed a paint stirrer...yes, ladies, he really did. Yes, and he was punished. Took me years to find another. They are invaluable - don't know why there aren't more. When you stir things you sometimes need to get into the corners - this spoon is perfect.

Great spoon
I had always read from chefs books that you should always have one great cooking spoon "with personality" that you use for your spaghetti sauce, stews, etc. After using cheap, $4 spoons for 20 years I splurged and got this one. The one-piece design with the grain going top to bottom gives it all the personality a spoon needs. I think I would have preferred a 16 inch spoon for my big pots, but the 14 inch might do. Overall, though, great spoon!

Best Spoon Ever
This spoon has been used many times and it isn't wearing down / fraying like some cheaper wooden spoons start to after a while. Who want to eat wood fragments? Not me. So this spoon is great. It may not last as long as silicone one, but it sure looks nicer! And the wood doesn't transfer heat the way a metal handle with silicone can.

Beautiful
This spoon is long and smooth. The handle feels great. While it is light it still feels sturdy and is incredibly beautiful. I just read somewhere these should be used with warm or cold food. Not hot. I thought olive wood was used for soups and stews while cooking. Wondering if others use theirs for hot foods. At any rate I will keep it and use it and enjoy it.

Great spoon!
Love this spoon. Super sturdy, nice length. Do wish the bowl was just a touch deeper, but no big deal. Love it for stews, sauces, and other heavier stirring that makes plastic bend/give. Helps with hand exhaustion, believe me!

quality spoon
I bought the spoons because I fell in love with another one I got at a different store. It ages nicely, handles is not too bulky in my hand, and it feel I can stir up anything. Shipping came in time and the spoons was in good quality. Would purchase this spoon again but different size, it is so worth the money.

Sturdy and well-made
Sturdy and well-made. It's long enough to use in deeper pots and I love the tapered point. It gets into the corners of the pot so that my sauces don't stick and scorch. Every so often I use mineral oil to keep it looking like new.

Beautiful. A joy to use
Beautiful. A joy to use. Well proportioned. Solid. Will most likely last me a lifetime. Have replaced all my other wood spoons with the Berard Olive-Wood spoon.
