Works like a charm
This device provides more than you really need. It comes with all the parts separated; that is the base, the sleeve and the actual 3-way switch. When I received it, I realized that all I needed to replace was the actual switch. So I disassembled the existing unit by twisting off the sleeve from the base, pulled the switch down out of the sleeve, replaced the switch (enormously easy) and reassembled the existing unit. Works like a charm. My existing twist knob fit this unit, so my lamps match perfectly The base and sleeve in this unit seem flimsier than the existing unit. Plus, there is no hole in the base for a set screw (which keeps the base from moving). My existing part has a set screw with a hole in the base for it. Don't take your lamp apart until you get this unit. Leave your base on and just wriggle the sleeve off. You'll agree with my approach!

Get this one, not the plastic one
The plastic version is as easy to install as this one, the wires can be secured to the contact screws, and with plastic you don’t need a piece of cardboard for insulation. BUT if you use this in a lamp that has a metal rod to secure the lamp socket to the base, you need the metal threads from this unit to assemble the lamp and have it stay in place.

And Then There Was Light
I have some very old and very expensive brass and cloisonne lamps that were continually burning out light bulbs. It was plain that I needed to do something about that -- at the least, new power cords and new light sockets. I picked out the GE product from the Amazon selections because I wanted known reliability. It was a good choice, since I was going to stop using incandescent bulbs and start using very expensive LED's. This light socket saved the day for me, and now my lamps work well, reliability, and I have no fears of them burning out my bulbs, particularly these costly ones. I'd recommend this to anyone who needs to get their lamps working again.

I installed two of these today with no problems at all
I actually installed two of these sockets myself today -- a first for me! If I had had a wire stripper tool, I could've done it a lot quicker. I plan to order a pair of wire strippers, as I want to replace some other sockets that my husband ruined by putting bulbs in them that were 250 watts. The lamps still worked but the bulbs burned out very quickly and often with a loud pop. Before I began, I looked up directions on how to do this on YouTube; just wanted to supplement the instructions that come with these sockets. It helped, as I had a hard time getting the socket cap off the socket base in my lamps and I had seen a man have the same trouble and how he handled it. I also learned that I can turn ANY lamp into a three-way just by putting a 3-way socket in it. I hadn't known this, as I've passed on buying some lamps because I prefer 3-way types. That 50 watt setting is nice if you just want some ambient lighting or to light lamps in room corners to make the room look prettier and larger. As you can see, I'm pretty proud of myself for accomplishing this today!

This did the trick
I ordered this to fix a lamp with a shorted socket, something I had never done before. All it took was two pairs of pliers and a phillips screwdriver and in less than 20 minutes I had a nice floor lamp I have had for a long time up and working. No instructions required. I suggest you unplug the lamp from the wall first unless you're looking for a new hairstyle. This did the trick exactly. Thank you.

Couldn't be happier with this purchase
Wow, really quick shipping! Thanks so much for that. The item is just what I wanted, and the included instructions allowed me to quickly convert an older vintage lamp that I found at a thrift store into a very usable lamp for our home. Couldn't be happier with this purchase!

Just what I needed
I had a wonderful 3-way lamp that had quit working or would flicker when switching between the different settings. This socket was just perfect, easy to install and brought new life back to the old lamp. Product looked very sturdy and well made.

Standard Lamp Socket works!
My favorite lamp needed a new socket. And found this lamp socket online. This is the standard lamp socket size for most. Make sure you look at the dimensions. Some of the other sockets online are smaller in width. Easy to replace. Comes in 3 separate parts - the base, the switch, the top. All you need is a screwdriver! Just YouTube - How to replace a lamp socket. It's easy!

Very simple to replace an old socket, especially if the switch is worn out and just spins around. All you need is a flathead screw driver to pry the old socket out (crimped in) and a phillips head to replace the wiring.

Easy installation and a good quality feel to the switches.
I bought two of these to repair a pair of lamps in my living room to three intensity functionality. They were easy to disassemble to install on the lamps and they both work great. The switches operate with a good positive solid "click" and the knob does not feel at all loose. There is very little "play" or "slop" in the switch, so I expect these switches to last a long time. They are replacing a pair of 30 year old switches. I hope the new ones last as long.
