I hope you never have to use pepper spray, but if you do, this one is fantastic. I have a small 20-pound dog that I walk, and a couple of times we have run into dogs off leash in the neighborhood and been charged. This pepper spray is amazing, and turned a fierce dog away with an indirect hit to the face. One time I am pretty certain that if I hadn't had pepper spray my little dog would have been killed or I would have been injured trying to fight off the dog attacking him. Once I have seen how powerful and effective this is, I make my wife carry it with her everywhere she goes. This model has a hand strap, which allows you to have it at the ready attached to your hand but you can still use your hand. And don't be fooled - if you need to use this against another dog, you will not have time to pull it out of your pocket - it needs to be in your hand ready to go. Excellent product. I've bought a bunch of these for friends who talk their dogs.

My husband is a law enforcement instructor in the legal and defensive use of pepper spray. He recommends the Sabre brand for its effectiveness and reliability, so it’s what I’ve carried for years. The first thing you want to do when you receive your spray is to test it out. Occasionally there’s a defective can, and you don’t want to discover that when you need it. Also and most importantly, a little practice will ensure that you’re prepared in an emergency. Get comfortable with flipping the safety back and forth, and then with applying a steady spray by depressing the trigger with your thumb. I recommend doing these practice runs when there isn’t any breeze or you’ll have blowback, which isn’t pleasant. Then perform a test about every six months to make sure everything works. The company says that the spray has a shelf-life of four years, but I generally replace mine about every two to two and a half years. I’d also recommend that each time you carry it with you that you take just a few minutes to mentally walk through your response if you suddenly had to use the spray. Picture flipping the safety and pointing it at the attacker’s eyes, making a sweeping motion from ear-to-ear. Always have an escape plan in mind. I chose this model because I like the Velcro hand strap. It’s easy to carry on my daily walks, and the size is perfect for being somewhat inconspicuous in my hand. It gives a good stream for about 8 to 10 feet.

Ok. You can't make this up. My daughter was in a lovers' spat with her 18 year old boyfriend and accidentally sprayed him in the face while intentionally threatening to spray him in the face with the pepper spray I just bought her to take to college. Long story short, said boyfriend not only vomited but sobbed in crippling pain. About 45 minutes later and after a shower, he returned to functionality. Needless to say, ill rest a little easier knowing she has this protection.

Be prepared for the unpredictable. I bought this stuff after a dog was killed by a pit bull at the park where I walk every day. There have been numerous times when I have been approached by large aggressive dogs at the park whose owners don’t have control of their dogs. I have also come across jerks who get a thrill out of being intimidating in public with their large aggressive dogs. Fortunately, I avoided disasterous confrontations so far, but that incident had me rattled enough to finally get something to protect me and my dogs. I now feel confident that I have some line of defense if approached by an aggressive dog or human. I am a dog lover and would hate to have to use this on anyone, but will not hesitate if I have to. What I like about the Sabler Red Pepper Spray Gel is that it is very small, but powerful. You can pop this thing in your pocket or keep it strapped to your hand for easy access. I got the gel so that if it is windy it does not spray into the wind and is easier to hit the target. As a woman, it is also comforting to have for my own personal protection. While I don’t think you would take anyone down with this stuff, especially a crazed maniac, this would atleast give you a chance to run away. I also have a Vipertek taser, just Incase this stuff doesn’t subdue a vicious dog.

This product is easy to use. I feel so secure when I exercise with it, especially since I have to keep myself and my children safe. It's not just about me anymore! It is comfortable to wear while running. The strap doesn't itch or cause friction. The velcro is convenient and easy to undo. I always keep my thumb directly on the red tab...then all I have to do is swivel it to bring it into the correct position to spray and push down! I recently had to replace this because I ran over my old one with my vehicle. That was a sad day! I'm on my third bottle and luckily, I've never had to use it! I replace mine when the product is expired just to be safe. It's relatively inexpensive so I think it's worth it for the peace of mind! I also loved that the packaging had information for Sabre's website to learn about personal safety and how to protect yourself! They really care about their customers. I also love that this product is a level III...which means it has the maximum burn factor...just under a bear attack spray! Awesome! A+! If my review helps you make a decision about whether or not to buy this product, please mark it as helpful. Thanks!

One of my neighbor's Rotttweilers attacked my dog while we were walking around our apartment complex at night. I had this on my wrist. If I didn't, I'd have a dead dog right now. I sprayed that dog like no one's business. My dog and my neighbor also got it, but it stopped the attack. Thank you Sabre.

I wanted some self-defense, extra strong, pepper spray. All my research pointed to Sabre Red, and I got this. I like the size for my wife and I (we bought 2), so that we can go running with it or have it in her hand when walking to the car, or (more importantly) have it on her hand when attacked so that it cannot be knocked out of her hand easily. I tested this out with my father in-law as my mother in-law had been carrying her pepper spray for 30 years and never used it. Her's did not have an expiration date on it (but it was still Sabre), so we wanted to make sure everything was still good. We figured out a safe place with the wind blowing and he tried first. Pushed the button and absolutely nothing happened (thus, don't hold onto these for 30 years). I then tried mine and it was a solid stream, I see why they say within 8 foot, because I could see it being accurate around 8 foot. But, we then went shopping and my hands swelled up (looked like the marshmallow man) with numbness/tingling for a couple of hours. It didn't bother me too much, rather it made all of us realize that if this is needed in a life or death situation; it will do it's job for sure!

EDIT: and please remember that any pressurized container loses the ability to spray after awhile, so it's important to check the exp date AND to do a quick test from time to time, not just the first time, because no matter how great the product, if it doesn't spray...... _________________________________________________________ FIRST....TEST IT! Do a quick spray OUTSIDE and NOT on a windy day! While gel doesn't blowback as easily, still better testing it on a calm day, out in the open. ANY product like this should be tested, no brand is ever perfect all the time. PROS: LOVE the velcro attachment to fit hand! Is much easier to keep hold up without having to constantly GRIP PREFER GEL, which this is, because harder to blowback on you and feel more potent especially if you get in eyes of attacker...think gel over something more liquid MORE SPRAYS...HUGE plus if you have a persistent dog or dogs PEACE OF MIND - I go out walking and often no one is around, even driving by, for a minute or two. Having this makes me feel more prepared for any confrontation with loose dogs (and I have seen many large dogs roam together and without SOMETHING to deter, not comforting) NO CONS at this time, but a bit of advice: I have had to use pepper spray years ago. A loose Doberman came running at my dog and I in a park. There were NO other humans in the park at that moment and my dog would have been no match for this Doberman. As the dog got within about ten feet, I just sprayed in front of my dog and I, the Doberman got a WHIFF and ran off. Sometimes the smell, the irritation to their nasal passages alone will send them packing. .

This has already proven to be worth the money. We've had a couple of car jackings at local gas stations and pan handling has gotten way out of control. Tonight I was pumping gas and had this in my hand when I was approached by a random, sketchy guy. He asked me for money and wouldn't leave looking inside my locked car. When I showed that I had mace in my hand and aimed it toward him, he said, "No problem, God bless" And immediately walked away. I am so glad i had this and highly recommend it!

Before purchasing, I tested this first with the exact model. A friend loaned it to me. I walking on some nearby streets, neighborhood considered safe. I'm an animal lover but a dog nearly took me down I probably let it get too close before spraying it but I admit that that I thought the dog was bluffing. Plus I love dogs. And until then I'd always been able to calm down those which seemed aggressive but were simply "on alert". This spray allowed me to get away from the one dog which wasn't going to back off. Turns put the owner had received a warning about not controlling this dog after it bit someone else and yet it had slipped outside. Unfortunately, these things happen. That was all it took for me to realize that I wanted some protection with me at all times. Also, crime is up in even "safe" neighborhoods in my city. There has been a surge in home invasions lately. And with the holidays approaching, parking lots at shopping malls can be risky areas, especially at night. I have also taken a basic self defense course which goes over situations where pepper spray might not be ideal or provide the desired safety. Two tips: 1. Practice on a day that isn't windy, to avoid it blowing back toward you. You need to be able to act quickly and be confident about firing the spray. No fumbling. No doubts about how to instantly use pepper spray. So that's why I'd suggest a quick practice shot or two. 2. Remember to aim for the eyes of an attacker. When you're scared, your shaky hands could make your aim off...way off. Some advance prep can control that, even with adrenaline surging.
