Not bad for the price

So the reviews appear to be correct. I have not had this long. I just wanted to give you my first impressions. I am a person who has paid top dollar for a Dyson only to have it malfunction many times and then I just gave up. I love my Roomba so that is what I mainly use. However, i need to do stair and sometimes quickly spot clean. I refused to pay any money for another vacuum. My Roomba is my friend. However, this little guy is just plastic with no moving roller brushes. BUT it appears to pick up the dirt. I think the key is keeping it emptied. Sometimes the simplest things work. I needed this because I need something very very light because I am losing the use of my hands. This little guy is very light. I can easily move out about. I have trouble with my garage vacuum and I have an art studio, so I am going to try and use it for sawdust and stuff on my garage floor. If it lasts even a year it is well worth it. This is cheap after all. So if you buy it keep that in mind. BUT I am not disappointed so far. As long as you, as the consumer, realize this. I so dislike people who give low stars for a product they know they purchased cheaply. What do you expect. Yes it should arrive in working order but do not expect it to be a high end vacuum. I absolutely love the idea of buying it for your child and let them help you vacuum because they will actually be helping.

Basic cleaning tool, Perfect for kids

I bought this as a toy. I wanted a lightweight toy vac because 1) I had kids that screamed with fear when I tried to clean with the real one(toy really helps) and 2) because I was constantly vacuuming up after snack time...but now they do it themselves! (yes they will drop stuff on purpose...) I used to have either this same product or a very similar one in college it's a great basic crumb cleaner. This isn't the deep carpet cleaner for dust allergies and etc obviously but it does make the floor visibly clean. It's the perfect size for perhaps a 5 year old, but my 4 and 2 year old kids use it easily. They can turn it on and off and can empty the dust bin by themselves. My 1 year old even can use it with help. It's only 4 pounds... less than that if you take off the crevice attachment (I didn't leave it on because they aren't using it like that). This is cheaper than most toy vacs so highly recommended. Of course if you plan to use it for young children remember it plugs into the wall and is an actually electrical appliance/tool/thing... so either put it up after supervised use or something to prevent curious kids from starting fires or hurting themselves.

My favorite cleaning tool!

I really love this little guy, and use it almost daily. Of course, it doesn't replace a real vacuum cleaner, which I still use about once a week. However, this works great on my hardwood floors. I have 2 cats, so there's always hair and litter particles everywhere, but this quickly and easily fixes that! It's not the best on carpet, since there's no brush like in a real vacuum. But I still use it on my couch as the fur shows there, and it works almost as well as the vacuum there. I love that it's light and quieter than a big vacuum, and doesn't hurt my back. (Interestingly, even though it's a lot quieter, it scares one of my cats much more - she will even let me vacuum her sometimes, but don't come near with that new dust buster!) The suction isn't as strong as a vacuum of course, but that makes cleaning my door mats easier as they don't get sucked into the machine. I like that it has a cord, because it doesn't run out of power and get weak like battery powered ones. The cord could be a little longer, but then again there would be more bulk and more cord to fumble around with, so I'm really not complaining. The directions said it's best to empty the canister with each use (easy to do), but I find that's not at all necessary, perhaps because I'm just touching up smaller areas. This tool feels more expensive than it is, and I think the price is incredible. I plan to give it as a gift for housewarming, or new pet owners, or off to college. I truly love this gadget and if anything ever happens to it I would replace it with the exact same one. I think you would be disappointed if you were looking for a real vacuum cleaner, but if you're looking for a short-cut tool that you'll reach for daily, give this little thing a shot!

Excellent college dorm vacuum

This Dirt Devil vacuum is perfect for dorm living! Not only is it affordable on a college budget, but it is also very effective. The latest redesign has truly optimized the vacuum's cleaning function. I bought this for my dorm in May of 2016 to replace the one whose cords had been unfortunately victimized by a certain bunny rabbit. That was the only reason I replaced it - otherwise the vacuum could have lasted easily the rest of my college dorm years. This vacuum features a handle, the motor housing, the vacuum mouth, wheels for rolling and mobility, and the collection bin. There is no bag for detritus collection, rather, this vacuum utilizes the most space possible for collection within its sleek profile using a removable, reusable filter. The filter can be cleaned easily by rinsing it in the sink. It is even flexible for being wrung out and hung to dry! Do NOT try to vacuum when the filter is wet - you may suck moisture into the motor housing and short something out. There are no bristles at the mouth of this vacuum like you might see on others. Rather, the mouth of this vacuum is just a hole. Given the relative power of this vacuum's motor, this is actually optimal. A more powerful vacuum, like a Dyson or a Shark, can house bristles because their motors are strong enough to break through any clogging that might occur in the spinning bristles. This bristle-free model is actually a more recent feature of this vacuum's redesign. "What redesign?" you may ask. Well, around fall 2014/spring 2015, this vacuum got a makeover. My roommate and I had the old version that died after a while, prompting us to get a new one - that is when we noticed the different design. The major difference is the removal of the spinning bristles at the vacuum mouth. They were a major issue, constantly clogging with hair. Every time we vacuumed, we not only had to empty the collection bag, but also had to use scissors to trim the tangle in the bristles. The problem with the constant tangling was that the vacuum's motor generated both the suction as well as the rotation of the bristles, so if one function slowed, the other would suffer too. In the end, the poor little motor burned out trying to overcome the hairy clogging of the bristles. Now, about the overall strength of this vacuum: it's perfect for dorms. That is, it's perfect for cleaning a space that's around 10' x 5'. I usually clean my room one half at a time, emptying the collection section after each half. After cleaning the whole room, I will rinse the filter and let it dry. This has kept my vacuum working at peak performance for much longer. Overall, I highly recommend this vacuum to any college dorm resident or anyone in a small living space. For larger pads like apartments or offices, it is worth investing in a stronger, longer-lasting vacuum (otherwise, you would have to be constantly emptying your Dirt Devil vacuum and probably replacing the whole thing every six months or so).

Simple, no bells and whistles vacuum, dustbuster function is great!

This is exactly what I was hoping for - a simple little vac that picks up basic messes. It doesn't have the suction of a shop-vac, nor did I expect it to. Nor did I pay for the suction of a shop vac! It does have the suction to pick up most things if you give it a few swipes. The fact that it is so lightweight, easy to move around and small enough to store just about anywhere seals the deal for me. The dust-buster function is great. It has more power than most dust busters, obviously because it has corded power, and that was what I was hoping for. It is super easy to change it from a stick vac to a dust buster and really intuitive to do so (no directions required, even for machine-challenged individuals). The stick just slides in a hole in the top of the vacuum, and the bottom part (what slides over your floor) comes off and on with an easy slide/turn. Again, I didn't read instructions - it just was so simple where the pieces attached, it was intuitive and easy to figure out. There is a little holder for the attachment, and that has a tight fit. The cord wrapper portion is solid as well (which is important - I had a Dyson that's cord wrapper snapped off and, well...you can imagine. Cord issues from then on.) Filters are easy to find, too. I got mine here at amazon for a reasonable price. Just search for the filter they reference in the description - (F25 Filter - 2SV1102000) All in all, this vacuum met all my expectations. I still have a Dirt Devil given to me by my grandmother (over 20 years ago!) and it is still going strong. I hope this one will do the same, because so far I love it.

Great buy!

This is a must. My husband didn't want to get it because we already have two full sized vacuums (one for gross jobs and another for the house), but we had one of these growing up and it was so useful. We primarily use it to clean the kitchen, which has high traffic and gets dirty fast and in the bathroom to clean up all my hair. It's very lightweight and also comes with a long skinny attachment for hard to reach places (or corners). It works well on our tile, hardwood and carpet, but if anything is in the corner or is down in the carpet it's harder to get. So it's just for a quick, light clean, like crumbs under the dinner table. The chord is pretty long and I've never had an issue with the chord length. It's easy to clean- just open and empty out. I had to wash the filter once because my husband vacuumed up something wet and it started to smell. We washed it and let it air dry, no problems.

The sound of silence

The evening at my house typically goes like this: I zombie up the stairs from work and vegetate, the kids grudgingly do their jobs after being reminded thirty-seven thousand times, and the mister comes home and gripes about the substandard quality in carrying out the two small chores allotted to each child. Look, man. I am chronically ill and await surgery and unless I want an intervention for an aneurysm as well, the last thing I need to hear is this four-wall gripe fest. The largest issue here is sweeping. We are in a two-story condo with wood and tile floors. I don't know how in the dickens the floor needs swept so often, but it does. It's like my tweens are composed entirely of crumbs and granola. Tired of this issue, I decided to purchase this. It hasn't been but a couple weeks, but the novelty of a metamorphosing floor sweeper over a broom is enough to make the kids enjoy cleaning the floors. Because of the ways that it can be used, they even volunteered to vacuum both sets of stairs in the front of the house, as well as atop the baseboard. The baseboard! The magnitude of this situation is not lost on me. I digress, yet again. This little thing, especially for the price, is a trooper. It works very well. Yeah, the filter needs to be addressed more often than other hand vacs or comparable vacuums, but I can make peace with that when considering the versatility. It can be irritating, but I don't live in a sprawling estate and chances are that you do not either, so the walk to the trash can is not far. I should also note that I do not own any pets, so only have to address the massive amounts of hair that I personally shed. This miracle stick of wonder has been used on a couple of Persian runners, hardwood floor, tile, and granite. Please don't tell anyone, but I used it to suck up all the remnants of my cooking messes on the stove. I am a messy chef, and if I can manage to make dinner, I sure do not have the energy to actually clean the stovetop. Using the wand attachment, this makes light work of such things. It is very lightweight in any form in which it may be used, and surprisingly quiet. Considering the price point, I expected some corpse-waking noise. None such here! Perhaps you would like your children to vacuum the hordes of granola and trail mix on the back floor of the car? This also does that! Amazing, I tell you Considering how well it has performed, I do not expect that it will die on us on the near future. In the event that it does, this puppy is cheap enough to keep a back stock in the closet. This has to be the best purchase I have made this year, and I most certainly recommend it. My littles treat it like it is a Transformer, so definite plus for being versatile. I will take anything that provides my kids with enough motivation to do their jobs and enjoy (?!) dong so.

This sucks, but in all the right ways!

This is the best buy for you buck in my humble opinion. If you live in a small space, especially one without an installed carpet, this might be just what you've been looking for. I have 2 area rugs, hardwood and tile in my place and this thing works great on all 3. I doubt it would work for a full-on carpeted place, but if you need something small and powerful, for an apartment or dorm room, and don't want to break the bank or have to store something bulky, this is it. It's essentially a hand vac with a detachable handle and detachable traditional vacuum head attachment. When it's in this configuration it works well picking up most stuff from carpets, hardwood and tile. However, if you have hard to reach spots like under a bookshelf or around the corners of the room, the base detaches from the hand-vac and has a longer tube like attachment. It makes cleaning the base molding a breeze and I've also used it to clean out the car. And its small enough to store in that unused corner in your pantry or closet. For under $20, this thing is a STEAL!

WIN! WIN!

This was probably the most awesome Christmas gift I could have ever given my 4 year old. She wanted a vacuum like mommy's. I looked at all of the toy vacuums and some how came across this beauty. The toy vacuums cost more and did less than this little dirt devil. It is the perfect height and weight for her. Instead of pretending to vacuum, she actually is vacuuming. WIN! WIN!

Don't get me wrong that is great.. but

I clean homes for a living.. spend all day in other people's homes using their vacuum's .. I believe the most expensive I use is the Rainbow .. and it can run about $3000. (these people actually have two .. one for each floor, kill me).. Don't get me wrong that is great .. but .. let me get practical. Four kids, a dog, and a husband .. I would have to sweep or vacuum every day (usually more then once) .. but between this $20 dollar vacuum and my wet swifter .. I have zero issues keeping my house spotless.. and my back thanks me. I do own a heavy duty vacuum and pull it out once a month or so .. But this is really all you need. Clean it out every single use ... sometimes more then once. This vacuum is 100% amazing .. I even vacuum my dog with it :D By no means am I comparing this to a real vacuum.. but if you use it correctly it could totally replace one :)
