I recently moved to a state that actually experiences winter. Before this winter, I've never had to worry about driving on snow or ice. I purchased these snow chains based on the previous good reviews. These are perfect for a snow newbie - I watched the short video clip that's on the amazon listing, then I replicated it with the chains on my car (1999 Honda CRV). I'm a 5 foot petite woman, and I installed these by myself without any issues or assistance. I felt very safe driving with these chains. I drove on them for a week, and when I removed and inspected them, there were no breaks in the chains at all. After drying and lubricating the chains, they are ready for the next snow storm! All in all: easy on, easy off, no assistance needed.

I bought the chains, this is a personal review. Did the trial install in the driveway today and I got the chains on first try. Seriously, I am not strong and I have never done this before, was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to manage this and they went right on. Didn't think I would be able to get the tensioners secured but following the top to bottom, side to side method I managed it. Our last chains were $25 cheaper, were a nightmare to line up and get on, and then in and out of the car trying to secure the tension. I can't wait to see the husband's face when I put the chains on next trip! Then it goes back to being his job :) Will post photos after first snow.

Following the chart, I ordered size SZ335 for my 2016 Honda HR-V. The cables fit the stock wheel/tire setup perfectly. Super easy to install; it took me about five minutes to install one as a test in the driveway (after watching the video). Note that depending on your wheel/tire setup, the metal brackets may overlap with the edge of the alloy rim (the video warns about this). In my case, they overlap a bit with the stock 17" alloy, but there's about 1/2" of air between brackets and the wheel. I am going to glue some rubber pads to the back of them to avoid gouging. Other than that, perfect. I didn't have any trouble getting this SZ335 size back in the (yes, small, but sturdy) plastic latch case. Just roll them up and fold them over the way they were arranged when shipped. I bought these for very occasional/emergency use, and for the price, I'm happy. If I lived in an area where I expected to use chains or cables regularly, I might spring for something like the (super expensive) Thule units.

First time using on my new front wheel drive mini-van (I have always owned a 4wheel drive car) they worked great. I decided to go up to Tahoe, at night, in a blizzard with many roads closed. I didn't die. My family didn't die. We didn't make it to the cabin but we did make it to the Hyatt and ended up having a blast for the trip. I seriously couldn't have done it without these. I practiced one time putting them on before the trip. I was able to put them on, while on the side of the road, in a start of a snow storm in under 10 minutes (which included time to try to warm my fingers up). Would recommend 100% great product. Easy to use, easy to install and easy to take off.

Bought these to use on our 2014 Ford Focus SE 5 door hatchback. They work great! We used them on the packed snow/ice covered interstate and on heavily snow covered side roads and they kept us going. Keep in mind the manufacturer limits the speed you should drive when you use these so don't plan on flying down the expressway at normal speeds. They are fairly easy to install but I would strongly suggest doing a practice install on dry pavement in your driveway or parking lot before you have to use these on a snowy roadside in the mountains! If you are using these on a vehicle with a minimal amount of clearance between the tire and wheel well, like our Focus, I would suggest carrying a overcoat and thin profile work gloves to install the chains because to hook the back link on the chain you really have to wedge your hands and forearms between the tire and wheel well both of which will be covered with snow/ice and road salt. I would also suggest carrying an old blanket or large towel to kneel on when you install these so you don't get your pants messed up. I would also suggest carrying a stand up style flashlight in case you are installing or removing these in darkness or poor lighting conditions, the extra light really helps. One more thing, don't be worried if the installed chains seems uneven when you install it, they quickly self align on the tire once you start moving.

Easy to put on and take off while on the road in snowy conditions. This set fits my new (to me) ‘15 Honda CR-V and they worked great - I’ve had this same brand of cords for my ‘03 Tahoe and they have lasted many years using them once or twice a year at Mammoth - I’ve bought 2 sets in 15 years and my second set are still in good shape. Just dry them thoroughly with an old towel after each use before storing them to prevent them from getting rusty. I keep mine in a heavy duty canvas bag along with a pair of old ski gloves (since it’s always snowing when you put them on). You won’t need to move your car at all or lay on the ground once you learn the “TRICK” of swinging the V shaped sheet of cords underneath the car around the tire so they are easily fastened from the front on the top inside wheel well, then top outside then bottom outside (pay attention to the direction of the metal clips keeping the correct side against the tire). Hook the yellow clips on the bungee sincher to the cables always starting at the top then diagonally across to the bottom (gives you downward leverage - much easier than lifting up) then the 3rd clip at 10:30, 4th at 4:30, 5th at 1:30, 6th at 7:30 as you face the front of the tire. I can do it by myself without laying on the ground and getting all dirty, as fast as the guys on the side of the road who charge $30 and I’m a girl! I’ve taught my teenage daughters to do it as well!

These are amazing products. They were very well and basically turned my RWD, skinny tired, Volvo 240 into a snow-go machine. As always, be mindful of their limits (about 30 MPH) and realize that don't help the car steer any better on RWD. On my particular car, Volvo recommends traction aids only be applied to the rear wheels, not the front. I have a RWD Ford van that uses "Super Z LT" traction cables that are basically the same, but I have them on all four wheels. Well worth the time and modest expense. Also, if you ware wondering, there is no comparison between these products and "winter tires." Winter tires are basically made of a softer rubber (at a given temperature) with a tread pattern that is ideal for packed snow and ice. They can go highway speeds, but they will not do much to help in soft snow. These traction cables are much more effective in soft snow than any winter tire can be because they provide traction not such much by friction of the rubber with the surface, but by the "wrenching" effect of the cable digging into the snow/ice. The make a road tire act like an agricultural tractor tire, basically, and have the same limitations. Also, for some cars the Whitestar Alloy traction chains may be a better choice. The Z pattern works well for cars, but I think for trucks or vans the chains may be better. They are heavier and they have a diamond pattern, so you always have some chain in contact with the surface. The Z patterns sometimes has points where only rubber meets the surface and no the cable, but this isn't a problem so much with cars.

I’m a single mama and putting these snow chains on and taking them off were not difficult at all; make sure to test them BEFORE you head to the snow to become familiar with putting them on and making sure they fit. As you can see from the picture, we had a big winter storm in Big Bear CA over Presidents’ Day weekend. These tire chains were a lifesaver on my 2005 Scion XB 185/60r/15 tires. They operated just as described, were super easy to put on and lasted the entire four day trip without fail. The culmination was making it down the mountain during a particularly hazardous drive down Highway 38 where numerous cars got stuck. We made it down safely and am so grateful for these tire chains.

Used these both days this weekend downhill on icy 4x4 roads in my rav4 where there were multiple others in ditches. Tried to help everyone out since I was easily zipping around with these on. Even the trucks with all terrains were surprised haha. They were super easy to put on (once you get it down, it literally takes maybe 1 minute per chain to get on). They saved my butt on this one particularly icy section that no one could get by without flying into the ditch. One fell off as I was trying to tow one vehicle out of the ditch uphill, but that was an extreme situation with a ton of extra weight pulling on my vehicle. The only gripe is that it seems the rubber connector could be slightly tighter, but they stayed on great up to 25mph so far under normal conditions. Haven't tried em at higher speeds yet. Thoroughly happy with em.

Super easy to install (as far as chains and cables go, anyways). These helped our 2010 Honda Fit Sport get up and over the Siskouyus during a pretty rough winter storm. The Chain Up lot near the highway entrance was full of folks putting their chains/cables on when we arrived, and about equally full of the same folks when we finished chaining up-- I think even the folks who were halfway finished when we started were still working on getting there chains on when we left. Of course, we did a practice round of chaining up at home before we left, but the included instructions are pretty straight forward and easy enough to handle (I do recommend a practice round or 3 before you get on the road). SO glad we paid the extra $$ to get the more highly rated cables.
