Finally, a no nonsense easy to use, inexpensive coffee maker for those of us who are fed-up with expensive, short-lived coffee makers. The display is not to bright at night and very easy to read in the day. The programming buttons are straight forward and very simple to use for people who tend to be a little technologically challenged (spouse). There was a power outage today and getting this coffee maker back up to its prior programmed state took less than a minute. The last time I had a power outage (happens frequently in the woods) using my previous expensive coffee maker, the display never came back to a legible brightness level, I had to wait until it was dark to reprogram and it took much longer than it should have. I trashed that expensive coffee maker and replaced it with this one so if any thing ever happens to this machine, I can just buy another. In fact, I could replace this machine 3 times for the same price as one of those other machines without sacrificing quality.

Makes good hot brewed coffee and is easy to use. This replaced a 12 cup Mr Coffee basic unit in my kitchen. I didn't think I would like the clock and timer, but bought it anyway because the price was so low. Turns out the clock is really easy to set, just press the HOUR and MIN buttons. I could program it too, but probably will never use that. Note that every time there is a power failure or you unplug it, the time blinks 12:00 at you. But it only takes seconds to reset the time, so no big deal. I like that it does not drip onto the burner when I pull out the carafe to pour a cup. My older unit always dripped one or two coffee drops and so I got in the habit of holding a paper towel on the hotplate as I slid out the carafe. I'm still tempted to do that, but so far, so good. The unit turns off after 2 hours. This is a really nice feature which I didn't know I would like, but now I think it's very good to have. The main reason I like this is that the coffee doesn't turn to mud if I get busy and come back three hours later. I can always zap my mug in the microwave to warm up the old coffee. I find the carafe markings confusing, I always make 8 cups (remember a coffee cup is about 6 ounces). The marking for 8 on the carafe has two lines which I find confusing, a lower and an upper line. So now I just measure roughly and use the water level gauge on the side of the machine to get 8 cups. I use pre-ground coffee (Folgers or store brand) and a standard coffee scoop seems to make a delicious brew for me. You should know that the top lid has a latch. It takes getting used to. You MUST remember to latch the lid all the way or you will have an overflowing mess of wet coffee grounds all over your kitchen counter. Yeah, that happened to me. Another difference is that this unit is taller (13 inches) than my old machines, but narrower so it takes up less counter space. Check your kitchen setup to make sure it will fit under the cabinets when the lid is flipped up. Here's an odd little tip, I noticed that the display was not crystal clear, so I rubbed it with my fingernail and a removable piece of clear plastic film peeled off perfectly. Then the buttons and display were even better looking. So look for this when you are unpacking it. I didn't see any mention of this packing tape in the instructions.

****** UPDATE 9 MONTHS LATER****** This thing is still going strong! We set it EVERY SINGLE NIGHT, 7 nights per week before we go to bed to brew 10 cups and it is ready at the time we program. The best part is I can smell the coffee brewing every morning all the way upstairs which is the best alarm clock ever. Great value! I've had this for 3 months and have consistently used it everyday. I have not had one problem with it. I set the timer and it has my coffee ready to go when I come downstairs. It's easy to operate, simple to learn without instructions. Terrific value.

Purchased the white version of this coffee pot because it matched my decor, and I’m quite happy with it. First, it truly is a NO DRIP/NO SPILL when pouring! I’ve bought countless coffee pots (some of them were quite expensive) falsely claiming this, but in this particular case: it is true and legit. Second, I love the fact that it is short enough to fit underneath my low level cabinets, and still have room to place it on top of a pull out tray. I didn’t see any clear indictation if it’s measurements when I ordered: but for reference to those who would like to know; my machine measures approx: 12.25” tall (lid down) 20.25” tall (lid up) 8.5” at its widest 10.25” deep (at the base) Third, the design is a simple one. Easy to program, easy to set, easy to use. It had a 2 hour auto shut off, programmable brew option, and a mid pour (aka “sneak a cup”) delay. Fourth, my coffee seems to be hotter than other machines I’ve had in the past, and it’s able to maintain a nice, hot temperature while the burner is on without tasting burnt. My only complaint to this coffee pot is that it tends to “explode” the coffee grounds in to the water reservoir if you use to much. I usually grind my own strong roasted beans, so instead of needing to use a typical scoop per cup ratio, I only need to use 1/2 the amount. This coffee pot can handle that with no problems. Except one morning I used the regular roast Foldger’s ground and used the standard 1 scoop per cup (12 cups = 12 scoops) but when I went to prep the machine afterwards I found clumps of coffee grounds inside the water reservoir. I was able to solve this by only using 11 scoops and didn’t have any problems nor did I notice much difference in flavor. Thankfully though; I grind my own more often than not so this isn’t a big deal to me overall. For the cost and it’s features, this coffee pot is a great option if you’re looking for some mid range options and simple design. I’d buy this again.

Ironically, this is a better coffeemaker than models costing several times the $25 price. It brews on a timer; it doesn’t leak; it holds 12 cups; and it lasts years. Did I mention it’s under $25? Amazing. In fact, this is an exact replacement for the coffeemaker I’ve had for years. I purchased this just to have another one on-hand for when the inevitable eventually happens and I need to replace it. Minor scratch on the lid from where UPS apparently played soccer with it and punctured the shipping box, but it’s not enough to send this great machine back or downgrade the rating. Highly recommended!

Sturdy so far and everything works as expected. Drip coffee makers are all similar in the coffee they produce so the quality and price of this one are great! **If you found this helpful please select the appropriate button on this review. Thank you!

This 12 cup coffee maker has all the bells and whistles of a more expensive coffee maker but at a basic bare bones coffee maker price. I have a 12 cup size Mr Coffee coffee maker that looks a lot like this one, but doesn't have any of the extras and it costs the same. My Mr Coffee coffee maker has no clock, therefor also has no built in timers. Also there's no auto shut off or anything like that with my old coffee maker. This one has settings for timers, a clock and and auto off feature that will turn off the coffee maker after 2 hours. You don't realize how great and how much you rely on the auto-off feature until you don't have it on a coffee maker. On the side of the water reservoir there is a small see through section where you can view how much water is inside for brewing. The carafe is easy enough to get in and out of its base but isn't so loose that it easily slips out of the coffee maker. The carafe pours well and in general it's just an all around great coffee maker. Works very well, has all the handy features you would want and is at a very budge friendly price.

I actually ordered the Black & Decker brand by mistake. I was shooting for a Mr Coffee and just did not pay attention. However, this really makes good coffee and the permanent filter I bought with it fits perfectly. I normally used an electric perk but mine finally gave up and died. I thought I would try this first because it was so inexpensive. I am glad I made the mistake!! Besides great coffee it is so much easier to clean each day than my perk was.

I had the B&D 1050W and it got old and wasn't getting hot enough. I tried this one because it was less expensive and as soon as I opened the box, it felt much more delicately made. I didn't try it out, as it didn't feel like it would last that long. I returned it and ordered the 1050W. That one is much more sturdy. I have no doubt that the CM1160W would make a good cup of coffee though. I just wanted something more sturdy. I am sure the CM1160W is okay if you want to save ten bucks. Update: I bought this again because I had trouble getting the 1050W. It turns out to be a nice little coffee maker. Easy to use and size slightly smaller overall than the 1050W. More slender, takes up less space. I brewed at 200 degrees so it makes a great cup. I am sure it will last a while. It's simply a coffee maker. Has a delayed start timer and shuts off after 2 hours. Nothing fancy.

This is a slightly updated version of the one I used to have. The old one lasted me well over 10 years, and was still working when I replaced it. If this one lasts even half as long I'll be happy indeed. A few notes about the changes: 1 - The pot is taller so any spare pots you may have are likely now worthless 2 - The spout has been redesigned and is now about as drip free as one could ask for 3 - No change to the controls, but I'm still getting used to the two color background. I'm sure some graphic designer somewhere justified the change, but I like the old single color background better. It was easier to read. 4 - It's slightly larger with a slightly bolder stance. For whatever reason, I like the new look better It makes an eminently acceptable pot of coffee. I find a heaping half-cup of coffee to be about perfect for a full pot which is all I ever make. I still use my French Presses for brewing premium roasts, but for Folgers, Maxwell House and other mainstream brands this is all the machine you will ever need. Spend more if you wish, but you really don't need to.
