Happily CAC on a MAC!! This Works Great!
It took a little while to figure out but finally got it to work on the Mac. If you're feeling frustrated, don't give up. Be patient. It takes a minute. Go to MilitaryCac.com (yes, it's a legitimate website). Follow the instructions. The most important step is the authorization in Keychain Access. After this step, everything else will be easy. When prompted, the code to enter in is your PIN, NOT your computer user password.

Works well for VA PIV CAG Remote Access with MacBook Pro
P/N 905331 I had fits getting this to work on a MacBook Pro (OS 10.10.5) when converting from OTP to PIV for Remote Access in the VA system. The problem was NOT with the card reader (It's on the IDmanagement.gov approved list). The problem was with the recommended card reader software. After I changed from Centrify to OpenSC and deleted the old identity Keys and passwords from my KeyChain, the reader works like a charm. If you are planning on changing from OTP to PIV for remote access on a Mac, call the NSD and ask for Version 4.1 of the Mac CAG users guide and the download link for OpenSC (the current users guide v4.3 does not have the instructions for OpenSC.) (Be sure to ask for a NSD support person familiar with Mac). You will need to delete the old passwords and identities from your KeyChain and then it should work. (This information is in the troubleshooting part of the current Mac CAG Users Guide v4.3 which is really written for new installations, not changing from OTP/MobilePass).

Does the trick
It's on the short list of officially supported readers for RHEL 7. Not that I've found one that doesn't *work* yet, but sometimes "officially supported" matters. In any case, it also works fine on Fedora. Other than formal support status, the key differentiator for this model is that it has screw mounting holes on the back and a long USB cable, perfect for mounting to a desk.

Awesome product, price, delivery. Thanks Amazon.
I'm a volunteer for the Disabled American Veterans. As technology changes, I found it necessary to acquire a CAC card reader to assist those service members who had CAC cards. I purchased another manufacturers reader and spent days trying to find the required software to integrate it into my system without spending more money. As luck would have it, I was assisting a veteran who was a computer programmer. He couldn't get the other reader working. He advised me to buy this model as he had one and was using it with a government CAC card. I purchased this item at what I thought was an extremely reasonable price, prime shipping, received it in two days, plugged it in, it downloaded the required software without any user input and it works. Thanks Amazon. I would give this purchase a 6 star rating if I could.

Works well - seems to be very low-power (== good) device!
Happy with this one! I tried (bought) 3 other different card readers (different companies) but when I was trying the other 3, they worked ok going direct to a USB 3.0 port on my laptop, but would fail to show an inserted card when the reader was plugged into my unpowered USB 2 hub. This (SCM) one was the only one that works both direct to the USB 3.0 port and to the port on the unpowered USB 2 hub. I have a number of other devices (keyboard, mouse, small LED lamp) plugged into the hub and this SCM reader works fine even when everything is plugged in.

Best CAC reader around.
I had bought this model 6 years ago and it has traveled with me around the world. It is not as compact as some of the newer style cac readers, but allows full access to all USB ports. For some reason it had stopped working. I took it apart and everything looked ok but still did not work. Without question I ordered the same exact one to replace my broken one. I expect my new one to get another 6 years of use!

Best Card Reader out there
The most functional smart card reader I have used. I travel a lot and am in the Navy Reserves. I needed a card that was reliable and self sufficient (i.e. installs its own drivers). This card fits the bill. It feels durable and performs flawlessly. Within 10 minutes of opening the package, I was online using my CAC enabled DoD certificate on all CAC restricted websites. My only gripes about the product is the USB connector and issues with using with my Macbook. It is slightly fragile where it connects to the PC/Laptop. I snapped my first one after ~6 months of use when I placed it in my laptop bag while connected to my laptop. Word of caution is remember to disconnect from your machine when moving around. That and I can't seem to get it to work with my Macbook effectively. Pros: -Installs its own drivers -Sleek design -Card reader light denotes full functionality effectively Cons: -Fragile USB connector end piece -Lack of MAC support

Definitely works for Windows 10
I was using a Dell keyboard with a smart card slot that I "acquired" from work and it worked for Windows 7. But when I got a new laptop with Windows 10, it didn't. So I bought this card reader and it worked. I can get on AKO and myPay, no problem. I definitely recommend this product. Here's how I got my CAC reader to work using Internet Explorer (not Edge): 1. Go to militarycac.com. 2. Download InstallRoot 4.1 and install the DOD certificates. 3. Download and install ActivClient 7.0.2.25 (I used the 64bit version) 4. Update ActivClient 7.0.2.x to the latest version

Cannot Get Any Better
Like my title states, this item cannot get any better. It has not failed me and does exactly what it is supposed to do. However, if I had to state a negative, it would be that the item came with no instructions. Yes, I am sure most people who are getting this item realize where to look for the information on install but if not, look at MilitaryCAC.com or on AKO's CAC Help Center and you will be on your way in no time. I do use this on a Windows computer though for my Mac is still not able to use this device. AKO nor MiltaryCAC.com have any solutions nor does Apple.

Solid build and works out of the box
This smartcard reader is the most widely supported device by many operating systems include Mac OSX and Linux. It is recognized by my MacBookPro and my Linux PC without installing any drivers. By using the free Cardpeek software, I am able to read all of my EMV credit cards. Here are the things I like: - Came with two layers of bubble wraps. - No drivers required for OSX and Linux. Works out of the box for me. - Rock solid build with manufacturer/model/serial well labeled in the back. - Not the cheapest, but pretty close. I regretted my first purchase of a cheap generic smartcard reader, completely unusable and waste of money. - Works on every EMV card I inserted. I highly recommend this device.
