I have my 10 yr old son using this software, and I'm pleased with the results so far. Once you set up the user name and settings, it requires them to complete each lesson at the (adjusted) goal WPM at 90% accuracy or greater. I started my son out at a 5wpm the first time he went through the lessons, then 15wpm the second time, and now he's at 19wpm going through it the third time. It also has an "easy" and "not so easy" setting, in addition to the WPM setting, which seems to increase the difficulty of the words that must be typed in the lessons. I started my son out with "easy" for the first two times, and bumped it up to "not so easy" for this third time through. This software alternates a formal typing lesson/exercise with a video-game style typing game for each stage, to help keep it interesting/fun for kids. If they don't meet the goal for a lesson, it automatically repeats the lesson until they meet the goal WPM. It remembers where they left off (i.e. which lesson they still need to complete at the goal set), so multiple log in/outs don't mess things up.

This product works very well with our homeschool. I have students of different ages, and they all love the games and method of teaching. You are able to have 5 profiles per device, which is very convenient. I highly recommend this product for helping your children learn to type.

This program is excellent for children, even boys! My 10 year old and 8 year old sons are learning to type and LOVE the game-type structure. I purchased the CD from Amazon and the package arrived on time and in excellent condition. You do need an activation code after installation to actually run and use the program. The activation code is on the CD sleeve. My children opened the package and lost the CD sleeve, so I had to call Individual Software for a new activation code. Joe Farmer in customer support talked with me and issued me a new activation code within in minutes, and we were up and running! Individual Software has impressed me as a company and their products are superior to others I have seen. I definitely recommend this product and anything else from Individual Software, as their customer service and customer support are AWESOME!

My son has been using it for a week now and he loves it. It comes with two CDs one for Mac and one for Windows, For each set of keys that he is supposed to learn, he can practice them on several different games so he doesn't get bored and keeps changing games. The games are fun for a typing game. I do hear him giggling and having fun while he is practicing. He has a laptop but I bought a monitor and keyboard for his laptop so that it would be easier for him to use his hand in keyboarding. Just when you first install the program when it says click on Logo, they mean to click on the picture of the larger size blue parrot.

I bought this program for my kids, ages 8 and 10. It works like a video game in which players travel around the lands of Typer Island and participate in exciting adventures. The adventures include: 1. The Old West: Players learn the keyboard "home keys" as well as proper finger placement in the Old West 2. On the Water: Players learn more letters and numbers while racing a Viking ship 3. In the Air: Players learn typing rhythm in an exciting space adventure 4. Over the Edge: Players climb a mountain to gain speed and dexterity 5. Under the Sea: Players battle sea creatures while mastering challenging keys My kids enjoyed playing the games, but after a week or so I had a hard time getting them to play. My 8-year-old son had a hard time mastering certain levels, so he reached a point where he could no longer move forward. My 10-year-old had no problems mastering each level, and her typing speed improved greatly. Overall, I think this is an excellent program. It's difficult to get kids to stick with any instructional program, so I don't think my son's problems were due to anything other than his being a boy. I would recommend this product to any parent who wishes to give their kids a head start in their keyboarding skills.

Great program. Both my 9 and 7 year old have already started on the program and have progressed greatly only have a few weeks. They are not super fast but I can see how it will help them in school with the upcoming computer lab sessions. The setting of the program is taking the students on adventures with typing activities. Similar to back in the day of old Dungeon and Dragons. They have to complete a series of typing tasks to move forward. Nothing too complex. My kids can play it for hours as it keeps their interest with different challenges. I highly recommend it.

Great for my kids, but even I am improving by using it. My only request would be to allow us to re-do any lesson once completed. Years ago I used Mavis Beacon, but this seems slightly better for kids. Having to ask directions for a Tiki god is a little wierd, but it goes to the theme of pirates and islands and I don't read into it any anti-Christian views.

My kids really like this, we've borrowed Typing Instructor from another family a few years ago, so when we saw this online, the kids asked to get it. My five-year-old, eight-year-old, and 11 year old all use it and agree that it makes learning to type, or improving your typing speed, fun! Even my 12 year old uses it sometimes.

Amazing how well this works. My son's teacher said he was far behind the other kids in his class with typing. After having this program recommended to us, within two months his teacher said he was one of the top typists in his class. Prior to buying this I had both my kids use multiple free typing websites online but none of them seemed to increase their abilities. This program on the other hand was just a game to him and his sister and they were using it constantly. The only complaint my kids had is that the parrot in the game talks too much and can be a little annoying. Despite that, it did not effect their willingness to use this software regularly.

This software has been thouroughly enjoyed by the younger folk here. They love progressing on the "typer island" treasure map and don't seem to notice that they are, in fact, studying a new skill. The games are nice. You can pick from a few generic genres of music to play while practicing. It supports 5 users and keeps track of their progress. As an adult, normally in hearing range of the kid's computer, I have not found the audio annoying yet. I purchased the cd for Windows Vista. An internet connection IS required to use the disc for activation. I was not aware of this and called Individual Software when this prevented my chosen computer from running the software. (It cannot go online, a malfunction I take advantage of in making it the school-work comp.) My call was taken by Joe and he, after some technical maneuvering, got a solution running for us and literally prevented a mutiny of small folk. So grateful for his help and efforts!
