Having purchased and returned a cheaper brand, I then discovered the 10x25 Vortex Solo Monocular. Before ordering I read all the reviews on Amazon. Good news...not only is this a very well built product with good optics, but Vortex has addressed the two issues that were most often cited. The focus adjustment dial works smoothly without any undue effort required to focus. At the same time, is is not too loose, so will stay in place once you set it. The other concern was the carry case. The case that I received is a belt loop model, but the elastic sides of the nylon case fully enclose the monocular, with no open spaces for it to fall out. The lid/flap of the case is fastened with Velcro and appears well made as well. I would buy this again, but probably won't have too unless I loose this one.

I bought both the 8x25 and 10x25 for comparison. It was a close call. The 8x25 image is slightly brighter and (of course) wider. I preferred the greater magnification of the 10x25 for viewing pistol targets downrange. I had no problems with holding either monocular steady. I found that bracing the side of my index finger against my eyebrow virtually eliminated shake. The focus ring was just right; not too tight and not too loose. Minor cons - I wish the unit came with lens caps. I tried a Butler Creek Tini-Bikini, but it didn’t fit. - I would prefer a snugger, more compact case that completely encloses the monocular.

First of all, I love Vortex products and I always buy with confidence that their products will be backed up by their warranty. This monocular was purchased Dec 9, 2015 for $39. Which is an awesome price. The item feels good in hand and the rubber exterior provides good grip. The eye piece moves rotates smooth and locks into place. It will be hard to find in-between rotation, but i just leave it at full extension and works fine for me. The field of view is small of course since it is a compact monocular. Quality of glass is beautiful and clear, I have not used other binoculars or monoculars so I do not know how it compares to other brands. The neoprene type case leaves much to be desired. I have a hard time taking the monocular out as I try to avoid touching the lens with my fingers. A velcro belt case would've been great. The lanyard is long and suffice. Overall I give it 5 stars for the optics, 2 stars for the case. Worth every penny at under $40

Very happy with this Vortex (Solo, 10x25). I considered paying twice as much for the larger lens (36mm) but I'm glad I did not. The brightness on this device is great. Magnification is crazy good too. I can see wildlife on the water at 150 yards in perfect detail (couple of otters moved into the lake behind our house). I don't have a problem steadying it with one hand. The focus ring adjustment works very well. It's resistant enough to prevent it from being jostled out of focus but not too tight to adjust. Eye relief is also great, the eyepiece has two settings, closed or extended with a positive "click" holding either selection in place. Build quality feels top notch and yet it's surprisingly light in the hand. Included soft sided carry case with velcro closure, cleaning cloth and neck lanyard.

I don't have anything to compare it to, but I believe this is a great monocular. It's the first I've ever owned and, although I was unsure about investing in a 10x versus an 8x (which is supposed to be easier to keep steady), it seems as if I can hold this monocular just fine. I'm no surgeon, but the little shakiness that occurred while holding one-handed was not really that big of a deal. As long as I kept the object in question generally in the center of view, I had no issues with the small movements caused by me. I also found that using two hands or supporting myself and/or the monocular with a stationary object reduced considerably the shakiness associated with the more powerful zoom. I appreciate the ability to adjust the eye relief, and the focus knob, although slightly tight during one-handed operation, is easy enough to manipulate. It definitely won't fall out of focus easily. I was also unsure of the smaller lens (25mm) compared to some of the larger ones common with this size of monocular (with regard to low-light conditions). However, I was able to see relatively well before this morning's sunrise with just the ambient light that was present before the sun crested the horizon.

Great little monocular scope. Eye piece pops up and locks for eye or down for glasses viewing. Focus adjust is smooth and has a clear, sharp focus and at 10x power it is easy to hold steady. Descent night viewing under lighting conditions like streetlight etc. Comes with a around the neck lanyard, cleaning cloth and good case but the sides of case is a cheaper elastic. Why? I don't know, when they could of used the same case material for the sides instead of cheaper, droopy elastic. (slacklastic) But it is a nice scope and it has a Lifetime transferrable warranty to whomever has it. Company is in Wisconsin.

I didn't buy my Vortex monocular through Amazon. A few years back I saw an 8X25 compact vortex monocular for sale at a local sporting goods store. I was shocked at the magnification and how easy and steady they were to hold. I figured, for around 50 bucks, I'll give 'em a try. Now, I think, why did I lug those clunky binoculars around with me all those years. These fit nicely in your pocket and are great for hiking or just sight seeing. The optics seem really good with a very clear image. I really recommend them.

I did not expect to like this much, but the other reviews suggested I would so I took a chance. Can't beat this for the money and for how small it is. No reason not to keep this in your pack. Really makes a huge difference. I use it for camping and hiking, and also for deer hunting. For deer hunting it is nice because it beats the heck out of glassing the tree line every 5 minutes. It is smaller and quicker to use and gives you just enough magnification to let you know if you need to really get into the scope to see what is up. For the money, this is a must have for deer hunters.

For $50 you can't beat these. Brightness and clarity compare very well with my $500 vortex viper HD binoculars. The lightness and size of this monocular does mean that it is difficult to hold it really still, especially with the 10 power unit. But for quick viewing it is perfectly adequate and so much better than the "cheap" monoculars on Amazon. I tried one of those that was supposedly up to 40 power (it was a deal at $29, regular price $91,) but was about 6 power and felt like a kid's toy that was worth about $5. That one went straight back and I went with one from Vortex, a top quality maker of optical equipment, and they did not disappoint.

I use this product almost daily in law enforcement. It’s, clear picture and easy one handed use make for easy multitasking when observing while taking notes or using the radio. Of course part of my rating is also attributed to its rugged design and durability. On several occasions I had to throw it on the floorboard or toss it in my patrol bag, after which the same attributes listed above where in the same condition as when the product came out of the box.
