Great! For the price, this banjo is incredible. It's held up after a year of me toting it back and forth on the bus, on road trips, and outside. it has an excellent sound. you can remove the resonator to make it quieter, and it also comes with a really nice head! It rings out nicely and overall has a wonderful sound. I definitely recommend it for any beginner, or for anyone who is interested in banjo! It's super pretty, too. I'm amazed by the quality. Good for all us folk punks out here on a budget

Its been a longtime dream of my girlfriend to play banjo. I am a drummer and guitarist but know very little about banjos. The research I did on this particular banjo lead me to buy it. It arrived today and I am impressed. First off it was very well packaged to insure it arrived damage free. I know I saw other reviews here that said the banjo had a different name on it. The one I received today is from and displays the name R.W Jameson on it. This is a quality musical instrument that is well constructed with quality materials. The wood finish is superb and the banjo has a beautiful sound. I did have to tune her which is to be expected and had no issues doing so. I used a Snark that I keep handy for my guitars. For others out there without a digital tuner, you can find free online banjo tuners that will get you going. My girlfriend absolutely loves it and is finding it difficult to put it down. I would highly recommend this banjo to anyone looking for a quality instrument at an entry level price. You wont be disappointed.

I have wanted a banjo pretty much as long as I can remember. And then one day it struck me, I am a grown up, and I can make that happen. I purchased this back in February, and have been diligently practicing at least 15 minutes a day. I didn't want to spend big bucks, in case my dream of banjo picking didn't work out. But I also did not want to buy a piece of crap, hate the banjo and dread practice. This banjo is beautiful, sounds good, is fun to play on and I'm super happy I bought it. I am a lefty, and so initially it sort of ticked me off that almost all instruments are made for righties. Except when I started playing I found that it was a much better thing to have my left (dominant) hand up on the neck of my banjo. My left hand is much smarter than my right, and so for me it worked out pretty good. So far so good. I initially purchased an electric tuner, but found it did very little for me, so I gave it to my husband for his guitar. I have found the app for banjo tuning to be far more accurate. I did start with the banjo for ignormaouses, and have found it immensely helpful. Otherwise you can wait on picks until you get more comfortable. I did buy a bag - which seemed absolutely essential. This is a very beautiful instrument for the price, and for a beginner, this is a great place to start.

Great first banjo. I've out about 12 hours on it and it sounds and looks great. Update: after 100 hours on it This is a good banjo to learn on for sure, Ive put in about 2 hours a day on it and more on the weekends and starting to really make progress. Im now seeing where this has certain limitations. It does stay in tune for the most part and the quality is good as ive had no issues with it. I picked up another banjo that a friend had and 2 things i noticed right away, 1. this banjo is heavy , the other banjo is about 4 lbs lighter and much easier to control, 2. the sound out of the banjo (a deering good time 2) was amazing. It made eveything sound better. I havent purchased another banjo yet but I will at some point when funds become avail. I am still very happy with the purchase and still play it everyday but you will want to upgrade when you really start to play fast and get better. Still 5 stars as you simply cant beat the price for this entry level banjo.

I've had this banjo for about 2 weeks now. It was shipped in perfect condition, I actually got aggravated about how well they shipped it because it took awhile to unwrap. The 5th string peg had to be tightened down with a Phillips head screwdriver because it was loose, and I've had to tune it several times before it started to remember the tension, but other than that it's working out great. I'm a complete beginner; don't expect this banjo to play for you. You must do the work in learning chords with your left hand and either strumming or picking with your right hand. I've always loved Bluegrass music so that's where I'm coming from. I've taken off the resonator for practicing. I bought a clip on vibration tuner, some finger picks, a shoulder strap, and a hard case. All said and done, I paid about $300 total, not bad in my opinion.

I was in the market for a beginner banjo, and really didn't know where to start. In the interests of full disclosure, I am a veteran guitar player. I used to play banjo many, many years ago, but I played it like a guitarist. This time around, I wanted to learn to play it as a banjoist, as it should be played, so for all intents and purposes I am a beginner. I don't know anyone who plays banjo, so I couldn't get any recommendations from friends or family. After considerable Internet research - a lot of which involved checking out Amazon reviews - I settled on this Jameson instrument. Many of the "name" brands in the music stores seem to start in the $250 range and go right up to the $700s and $800s, and I even saw some over $1,000. Even the $250 range was beyond my budget. In Amazon (rather than the music stores) there were instruments within my budget in the $150 - $200 range, but none of the names was familiar to me. Then again, I admit, I don't know enough about the banjo world to really know the names. Anyway, to make a long story short, I am really glad I decided on this instrument. It is a beautiful piece of workmanship, really attractive and nicely put together, and it sounds great. During my research, I had seen several reviews of other brands where people had said not to expect your banjo to arrive ready to play. You would have to install the bridge, the strings and so on. Not so with this Jameson - it arrived nicely packed and ready to play. It only needed minor tuning, which is of course understandable (for which I recommend the Snark SN-5 Tuner for Guitar, Bass and Violin, which works fine for banjo even though they don't mention that). It even included a tuning and chord chart. Note that this instrument has a (removable) resonator back, which is a bonus in this price range, since a resonator back usually hikes up the price. Another nice bonus is that Jameson provides free basic lessons on their website ([...], which links to [...]). I noticed that in the questions above, one answer said it was made in USA. However, mine was made in China. This is not an issue for me and shouldn't be for you (unless you are of the "buy-only-American" persuasion); it's a beautiful instrument regardless of where it was made. All in all, I highly recommend this banjo, especially (but not only) for beginners. It is an excellent value for a really fine instrument. Five stars without any reservations!

I've been playing bass guitar for 18yrs and screwing around on guitar for just as long. I recently picked up a friends banjo and was instantly hooked. I'm in no way a pro but i really wanted to own a banjo just to noodle on cause it seemed very fun to play. After a whole lot of research and much hesitation i placed this banjo in my cart. $150 is in no way, too much for an instrument but it is definitely too little for something of quality in most players minds. I must say though, this is definitely the best $150 I've ever spent. IM no expert in banjos and i know they run the gamut of price range but for a beginner like me this is a steal. I feel silly for even second guessing this purchase. if you have any interest in picking up a banjo, this is the one to start with. Solid construction, attention to detail and playability right out of the box. This banjo rocks! Thank you Jameson Guitars for making a quality product that us second guessers can be thrilled to finally receive. I literally played it for 2 hours straight after getting it delivered

Just months ago, I decided I wanted to learn the banjo due to its really cool sound, and how it can be used so well for many different types of music from country and bluegrass to children’s to rock n roll and Irish rock, for instance it features heavily in one of my parents and my favorite bands of all time, the awesome Irish rock band The Pogues and in the music and lyrics to one of my favorite children’s songs “Oh Susanna”. Plus I love how the banjo has a naturally upbeat sound to it and when I found through research that the banjo is considered an all-American instrument and that it is called “The World’s Greatest Anti-Depressant” for its ability to lighten the mood and put a smile on anyone’s face and that it is hard to find anyone who does not like the sound, I was officially convinced that the banjo was the instrument I wanted to learn. Luckily my parents were supportive of my desire to learn how to play the banjo after I sent my Dad an E-Mail explaining my reasons, so I searched on amazon for the right one to have my parents buy and I found this one and saw all kinds of positive feedback, plus it was less expensive than some of the others, so I went with this one and I am totally glad I did, because I have found it to be spot on in quality, and so I just had my mom order the 3 other necessities needed for the banjo, two of which I found out about from the DVD I have to teach me lessons, a strap to keep the neck from falling out of place and banjo finger picks to slip on your fingers just like you do with the thumb pick, and then one thing I decided on myself, a tuner designed just for banjos as I was struggling to fit the one for different stringed instruments on, and so as soon as I get those, I look very forward to going all out on learning this truly wonderful instrument and being able to play my favorite songs on it as well as make my own music with it. Well done Jameson Guitars, thank you for this awesome creation and I am eager to learn how to play it, and I also thank my wonderful parents for their crucial support of my goal that they showed by buying this for me!

I just received my Jameson Banjo today and was incredibly impressed. It is all chrome and gorgeous heavily varnished wood with more adjustments than I know what to do with and has a tight drum and melodious sound. It was packed so well that I had to make a special trip to the local dump just to get rid of all the cardboard and other packing material. It could have been dropped from a 10 story building (as UPS frequently does) without doing damage to the banjo because of the protective packaging, especially if you order it with the Jameson Banjo Padded Gig Bag Case which has far more padding than my bedroom pillow. I've always admired the sound of the 5 string banjo and could provide many examples. My only problem is that I have never played a musical instrument, so I thought learning to play the banjo would make a good retirement hobby since I've ran out of science fiction books to read. I've ordered a few accessories such as the "KLIQ UberTuner - Clip-On Tuner" which shows frequencies instead of just "notes" (whatever notes are) because I understand frequencies but not "notes", as well as an instruction manual, etc. My cousin who plays the guitar was envious of this fine and impressive instrument.

Wow, not what i expected. I am a new banjo player and know hardly anything about banjos. I purchased this banjo to see if i liked playing. I figured i would buy a cheap banjo and if i like it, get a better one. Well i found this one for very very cheap (compared to other banjos) and expected a cheaply made banjo. I was shocked to see what appears to be a decent made instrument. It looks better than i hoped. The sound is even pretty good. Only been playing a few days and already have some tunes coming out of it. Im sure ill have to get a better banjo one day but not as soon as i expected, this one will hold me for a while. I would highly recommend this as a beginner banjo that is well worth what they are charging.
