quite a nice little set
My kiddo has a light box so I got these for him to use with it. I was thinking he would stack them up and probably end up breaking them in short order (he's 3). Much to my surprise he treats these with a great deal of respect. He has learned each of the shapes and he does stack them on his light table but every so carefully. He's so afraid of breaking one. I guess I can't complain and will probably get him another set because he is absolutely in love with them. I think possibly the colors. This is a really nice set. I purchased it because it wasn't as pricey as some of the other "blocks" for light boards and figured they would meet with an unfortunate end. They are still kicking around, he even saved the original box. I know it's not the intended use but if he continues to take care of them they will last until he is old enough to use them.

Great product--fragile, but why wouldn't they be?
These are great. I've read people reviewing saying that theirs were falling apart out of the box and all I can think is they got a defective product. I bought two boxes and all of the shapes are fine. Most of the shapes have three pieces: the small, removable piece covering a hole (for filling) and then the removable side piece (for easier filling and cleaning) and finally the rest of the shape. They are all solid, but you are not paying for shatter resistant pieces of acrylic. This item would cost much more if you were. They are simply shapes made of thin, but not too thin Plexiglas. Obviously, if they are in cold conditions for a while the plastic will deteriorate in strength and may crumple, but otherwise these are sturdy enough.

My students love using these geometric solids. The removable bottoms makes it easy to fill a solid for volume demonstrations. I remove the entire lid, not just the circle opening, when pouring out the contents into larger shapes.

Well made fun 3d shapes.

I think this is perfect for toddlers that are into shapes and numbers!
Perfect for toddlers that are into shapes and numbers. My almost 2 year old loves this set. He loves exploring all the shapes. My almost 4 year old thinks it’s boring and has no interest.

Great Learning for Learning Geometric Shapes
I homeschool my 6 year old and we learned about 2 dimensional shapes for the first semester and now were working on geometric shapes. My son loves theses and loves playing and learning with them. It comes with a book that describes the shapes and they exactly as pictured. They are definitely worth the price and are really great learning tools.

Colors, shapes, numbers, and volume makes a great learning toy.
These are my sons favorite thing to use on his light tablet. He's a toddler and under the recommended age so they are used only with my supervision or he will throw them. Due to them being plastic I'm worried they will crack or break so far none have. I love how you can fill them. When he's older we will utilize that.

Excellent hands-on manipulative
This is a perfect hands-on manipulative if you teach any element of geometry. Sometimes it helps students to see exactly what you're referring to in 3D. 1/1/12: I'm editing my review now that I've used these more in my class. Since I teach a state testing grade, my students have to know how to do geometry on paper and not just by using manipulatives. This product really helps me bridge that gap. I introduce the concept with these then I move on to counting edges and faces, etc on paper. When my students struggle with the paper portion of it, we go back to these and I let them hold it while counting. Then we refer back to the paper. These have been a life saver in my small groups. I'm not sure if the product description says it, but these have small clear holes that are plugged. The little plugs fall out very easily (con), but the whole point of the holes is to use them to fill and teach volume (pro!). When I first bought these, I intended to use them only for faces, edges, vertices. Now I intend to use them to teach volume, too. I can't say enough good about Learning Resources ans their products.

Bought these for our light table
We bought these for my 2 year old son for Christmas because we made him a home made light table and needed some translucent items to put on top of it for the light to shine through. While these aren't recommended for someone only 2 years old, we bought them anyway and just have him play with our supervision. There are some small pieces that could come detached so that is why i believe this is for someone older. However, my 2 year old now knows what a pyramid is and what a rectangular prism is thanks to these. There are many different shapes and colors (no two are the same) which makes it interesting for teaching him what the shapes and colors are. We are very happy with our purchase.

3 year old loves them!
My son is having a blast playing with these shapes on his light pad. He's stacking them to make towers "with strong foundations." And we are talking about shapes and he is learning. The manufacturers say that this toy is great for ages 8 and up, but I think that it is also great to introduce younger children to the world of geometry.
