Perfection!
I bought this for my husband's cockatiel. My husband was skeptical that it would work, the bird would like it, or that it was the right size for a cockatiel. I am happy to tell you he was wrong twice! The bird does not care for it, but he uses it cuz ... food. This thing works great! While it does not eliminate the mess completely, that is through no fault of the product. Birds are willful creatures who insist on making messes with their food. I should have bought this years ago the amount of time it saves us on cleaning the floors is worth the price. If it breaks, it is very sturdy so I doubt it will, I will promptly be purchasing another one!

Naughty Bird
Hi! I'm a 28gm Pacific Parrotlet. I think my name is Naughty Bird, but mom says I'm wrong. How could I be wrong? She must say it 100 times a day! I HATE this feeder!!! That's right I HATE it. Why? I can't throw my food all over like confetti anymore. I can't poop in the dish so I can manipulate my mom into giving me exactly the food I want anymore. Everybody can watch me at mealtime. Actually, that isn't so bad. They coo and make a fuss over how cute I am as I nibble on this and that… Oh wait, back to my point... My mom even put my water in one of these do-hickies. I hate the drip bottles and I refuse to use them. I like taking a bath in my water dish! Now I can't do it anymore and I'm forced to use my birdbath! THIS IS A WARNING MY BIRDIE BRETHREN!!! This feeder will ruin all your mealtime fun. Your mom won't spend hours cleaning this thing while you smirk that superior smirk either. My mom is buying a third one of these "feeders" to put fresh veggies and fruit into. What fun is that? How am I supposed to redecorate the place with these things around???

Works perfectly after a quick tweak!
The hefty price tag on the Tidy Seed Feeder put me off the first and second times I looked at it, but I got tired of having to clean up bits of food that were flung around my room as my cockatiel ate, so I gave in and coughed up the cash for the small feeder. Talk about a huge difference! To put it simply, this feeder works. It is nothing fancy, but it does what it says it's supposed to do. Please note that Casey is a pellet eater, not a seed eater, so my experience is based on pellets. Some information I think is important to pass on: 1. You are paying for the convenience. The plastic itself might not be worth $22, but the result is. 2. When I first put this feeder in the cage, Casey was determined to get at the food from the top of it. Because he didn't seem to understand me when I told him that his method was not going to work, I ended up putting a good-grip perch a couple inches outside and downward (gotta have that tail clearance) of the feeder entrance. I then put a few pellets in the perch area of the feeder to entice Casey to stick his head in there. After he ate the easily-accessible pellets, it didn't take long for him to figure out that he could step up to the feeder perch to reach the rest of it. 3. Speaking of that perch... The perch inside of the feeder, while looking pretty and matching the rest of the feeder, is slippery as ice for cockatiel feet. I ended up buying some tread tape to put on the perch, and Casey has had no trouble with the perch since then. It also made the feeder perch a little wider in diameter, which I feel is a very good thing for the larger cockatiel feet in the small Tidy Seed feeder. 4. Little bits of leftover, pulverized pellets are very easy to dump out by turning the feeder upside down and banging it on the trash can. I had been a little concerned when I bought it that I'd be having to reach my fingers in there to clean it, but that is not the case. A couple bangs upside down to get the food at the top of the feeder, then a bang or two sideways to get the food out the door, and you're done. To sum up: With slight tweaking, this feeder is going to do its job of keeping your bird's food mess contained. Pricey, but worth it to have a cleaner house. ================= Update 2014-06-12 I decided to pick up another one of these types of feeders and found one made by another brand that was only 75% of the price, so I bought the other one. Turns out I wasted my money, because that other brand does not have the following, highly-important-now-that-I-know-about-it #5 feature. I'll be buying a second one of the Tidy feeder right after I submit this update to my review. Grr. 5. This feeder has fixed hooks that make moving the feeder around or taking it out to refill it a one-handed breeze. It takes all of two seconds to get the feeder out. At least one other brand of this type of feeder has non-stationary hooks where the hooks are quite long. For my purposes, those long and moving hooks are absolutely horrible since it means that I need two hands to unhook it without dropping it and that the feeder has to be placed in a location where my arms can reach the feeder both inside and outside of the cage. Refilling it becomes a chore instead of a five-second job, and I regret the purchase. If someone is in the situation where their bird manages to unhook this Tidy feeder often, they might look into that other brand. For me, I'm going back to this Tidy feeder. ================= Update 2017-05-30 Still going strong five years later.

Fantastic feeder in every way!
I have had birds for years and this current cockatiel is going to be the death of me. No, it's not a screamer . . . yes, it's a Houdini! There isn't a door he can't open and it is very common to come home and have him floating around with the cats and dog. Even ziptying the doors shut, he can tip any feeder out and then lift the door and out he goes. no amount of string, tape, or zip ties would stop him. Until I got this baby. When I ordered it I figured it would go in the box of feeders with the rest of my failed experiments, including several of this style. To my surprise, he took straight to it (look, a window to the world!) AND he can't pitch it out! No tape or zipties needed! This feeder is heavy duty and works on both my boy's normal and travel cages, which have different size and style of doors. I have it hung on the outside of the cage and -- added bonus -- no seed is getting thrown all over!~ Goodbye stupid cage netting that should have kept the seed in and NEVER DOES! It also works well with the pellets. He will crunch them up and then later go back and eat the crumbled bits. So happy I bought this -- only sorry I waited so long to try it!

So happy!
Now, my two Parakeets once again would not go near this feeder, not unlike any other new item I introduced to them. However, after about 1 week, they did come around and start enjoying the feeder. I'm soooo happy they did, what a mess these two can make. And now I have about 5% of the mess only. I'm very pleased, but keep in mind to strap this feeder down with tie wraps connected together if using on the outside of the cage as I did. Birds can push their way out and that could end badly for them if you have other pets. Update as of 7/13/2019, they have become very comfortable entering their feeder now and I have added the photo of both of them together! that's amazing.

Nice food dish
I give it 5 stars because it's a good product and came quickly, but don't expect it to stop all food messes. Our birds get inside and fling food everywhere that a lot still flies out. We even had one bird lay on his back and take a food bath! They even sleep in there. It's easy to fill and keep clean. It hangs by 2 small cup hooks screwed into the acrylic top. I was scared to screw then in too tight but my husband had no problems and it seems very secure.

Great quality but my bird wont use it.
This is very well made and also very attractive! Fits the cage perfectly. Sad my bird is afraid of it. The bird has to go partially inside it to get to the food. For the little time he used it, there was no mess which was great. Perhaps because my bird is 18 years old, he’s just stuck in his ways. I like it so much I still haven’t returned it! Just hoping he’ll get use to it as I put less food in his old cup and more in this container right next to it.

My cockatiel loves it...
It seems pricey at first glace, but considering the options it's a cheaper choice. My 13 year old cockatiel loves to throw his food around. So it was either buy this or invest in an expensive cage that has the food guards. A couple hundred dollars or $15, hmmm... It's well worth the price. Now I don't have to sweep under his cage constantly. My bird usually hates new things & won't go near them for weeks. So, I put food on the bottom of the feeder too (under the perch), grabed him and put him in the feeder after I installed it. He was about to climb out, but saw the food and gave it a taste. Now he hangs out in there all day long. I think he likes the view without the cage bars. In order to get it to fit I had to face the hooks sideways, put the hooks underneath the door bars, straighten the hooks again & hook it on the cage bars (so it hooks between door bars &onto the horizontal cage bags). Its hard to explain. I'll post a picture for you to see what I mean.

The little finger biter loves it.
The bird loves this thing almost too much. He sleeps in it at night and has no issues feeding from it. The only problem is he has become fiercely territorial of it. Trying to fill it is a challenge because he doesn't want to ever leave it. We now have a method of luring him on the opposite side of the cage so he can't reach us in time to chomp on our fingers while removing it. Although he is a little terror I do think he is generally much happier now that he has this in his life.

Very Satisfied!
I have 8 small birds. Mostly budgies/ parakeets. Before we had the other cheaper mess free feeders, but after someone watched our birds for a few days, we lost a lot of those hooks in the trash. The other feeders became useless. Bought these feeders and they are SO MUCH NICER!! Huge improment on many irks the old ones had! The hooks screw in, making changing out the feeder a lot easier. They won't fall in the trash, and a perk: if someone watches your birds, it's less hassle! Quality is better over all too. These feeders are all one plastic piece, and smooth plastic perch. (Plastic perch is a plus, because I hear ugly horror stories about the ones with the rough wooden sticks and lil birds necks.) Bought two of these, and after we saw what we got for the price- ordered two more!! Why not! Keeps all my lil cherubs happy, well fed, and chirping! :)
