Rubbermaid really makes some exceptional products and this is really one of them. The 3-step ladder gives you about 27 inches of reach at the top of the ladder and it's compact enough to fit in any storage area (I chose to store it next to a small gap near my refrigerator and I mainly use it for the kitchen). The maximum capacity for the ladder is about 200 pounds, but it can easily manager a few additional pounds of weight. The sturdiness of the design makes me feel well supported and reassured that whatever I'm doing at the top of the ladder that the ladder itself can easy support me which in of itself a great feeling when you're purchasing a ladder. It's surprisingly pretty heavy to hold. It's about 13 pounds and might be a chore for the wife/girlfriend moving the ladder around folding it and unfolding it. My answers to the frequently asked questions: What is the height of the top step?? 27.25-inches at the top. I weigh 210-lbs. Should I look elsewhere? The maximum capacity for this is 200 pounds, but it's extremely sturdy and might be able to handle your weight. Are all the steps the same size? Yes they are. I definitely recommend for any kitchen/house area that needs that extra height to reach. Like our review? Hit the "Yes" button below for it being useful. I frequently use this step stool for watering my hanging houseplants and for reaching the top of my storage shelves. It's quite portable and can be easily opened up or closed. The dimensions of the step stool when it's closed are 44-1/2" x 20-3/4" x 2" (measured at their widest points). The load capacity is 200 lbs. The only downside is it's bit heavy (12-13 lbs according to my bathroom scale) because it's constructed of steel. Rubbermaid makes an aluminum version of this 3-Step stool, which according to their specs is slightly lighter at 9 lbs. Curiously, the aluminum version has a higher load capacity (225 lbs). I hadn't seen the aluminum version and wish I had bought the aluminum one instead. Oh well... I'm 175 lbs and the step stool has no problem supporting my weight. The 200 lbs load limit seems to be very conservative. The stool feels sturdy enough to hold a lot more weight. The heights for the 3 steps are: Step 3 -- 26-1/2" (or 2 feet 2-1/2 inches) Step 2 -- 17-1/2" (or 1 feet 5-1/2 inches) Step 1 -- 9-1/4" --- The quality of this step stool is excellent, but I would recommend the aluminum version of this step stool instead. [Update 2012-12-30] A shopper pointed out (correctly) in the comments section that the aluminum version of this step stool has narrow steps, which makes it harder to balance on them. As a result, I'm retracting my recommendation of the aluminum version. If balance is a concern, this ladder would be a better choice.

I bought this at the request of my sainted mother who can still change a light bulb or dust the top of her refrigerator, but she needed something safe to stand on. I let her look over the possibilities and she picked this one with that steadying handle you can see there. It really will fold up and go between the ice box and the cabinetry, and I think the weight was around 8.7 lbs. or so. Anyway, I had it delivered to her condo for her and she was amazed at how fast it got there. She reported to me that it was properly packaged, undamaged and relatively easy for an elderly dowager to get opened. I like Rubbermaid stuff on principle, she's happy, I'm happy, and there you have it in a nutshell. Buy early and buy often.

I'm very short, and over the years I've tried a number of different step-ladders. Those "three-step" ones with no support handle on the top seem to be everywhere, and I can't understand why. I hate balancing on the top of a wobbling ladder, hoping I get a new lightbulb in before the whole thing (and me!) goes crashing down. This three-step ladder is the best. Nice treads on each step, so it's not slippy, very stable and supportive base, a nice big handle at the top to help balance and move the step-stool, and best of all, it locks into place. To close up the step-stool, you have to depress a lever in the back - so it can't be accidentally tripped while the step-ladder is in use. I'm really, really happy with this step-ladder! Finally, I can reach everything! The world is my oyster! (Or at least, my ceiling light fixtures are.)

The step stool is very steady and sturdy and the top step clips into place. I normally use the first two steps and even my very short girlfriend tells me that the first two steps is enough to reach even the tallest cabinets. It folds down very compactly and fits into my hallway closet. It's very easy to clean, too - any paint, dust, etc. that falls off can easily be wiped off or vacuumed. This is durable, affordable. and reliable. I can't believe how good a deal this was and how much I regret not getting it earlier in my life.

Oh i luv it! Its sturdy n well-built. More than worth the money. It doesn't wobble and I feel VERY SECURE standing on it. it can hold a lot of weight. It was more than what I expected and it is perfect for me and what I needed it for. Plus several other uses. I am 5' 2" and I used to have to tiptoe and reach high worrying that I would drop or break something, or get my son or a chair...now I get my step and can reach high, feel safe going up and down and get what I want when i want it. It folds easily and slides right between my dryer & the wall and doesn't take up space like a plain step stool would. It is sturdy, but not heavy and I am able to carry it all over my home and place things and get things off of high shelves. I used to use the heavy wooden ladder n would struggle with it all over the house, but the folding step stool is perfect. I can now clean the ceiling fans, tall windows, set valances, and high areas with floral arrangements and decorate my home with ease..not having to dread cleaning and getting out the ladder. It's PERFECT!!

I searched multiple dept stores for a good 3-step stool, tested them in the stores, yet wasn't able to find one that was sturdy enough and didn't cost an excessive amount of money. I'm 6'2" and 190 lbs so I need something that can hold my weight. Most that I tried either wobbled due to poor construction, the feet weren't level, or the feet would easily slide on smooth surfaces. After looking through amazon and sorting by reviews I found this and decided to try it out since Rubbermaid seems to have a good reputation. It came securely packaged and undamaged. It's rather light in weight and sturdy in construction (i.e., it doesn't wobble at the joints even when I shift my weight on the 3rd rung). Unlike some others, the feet are level, which keeps it from tipping side-to-side. Possibly the best thing about it for those of us that have slippery surfaces, the feet provide enough friction that they don't slide around. When not in use and folded up, it's ultra thin and can be easily stored pretty much anywhere in my house. I was so pleased with this product that I bought a second one for a family member. The reviewers on amazon definitely got this one right - if you want a steady, sturdy, well constructed step stool that's relatively inexpensive, this is one of the ones to get.

Had a prior step ladder just like this one that I used constantly. Finally the ladder just would not open anymore. I really like my new ladder and think the handle is even a little higher than my old one which I love. Makes me feel even safer. I would recommend this for anyone. I am getting older and will not get on a regular ladder anymore so this type of ladder comes in handy. The ladder is sturdy not cheap like others I have seen, easy to fold and store. I can easily carry the ladder around. It is comfortable to stand on. I highly recommend this ladder. Also, it has feet on it to protect your floors. Previously I had bought a safety ladder but it was bulky, heavy and difficult to use and I ended up giving it away and thus type of ladder works better for me.

I bought this to replace my 30 something year old 2 step wooden step ladder I purchased when I was 25. It still worked fine but now I am 57 and I feared the day I would break one of the steps and fall down, breaking my neck. While I still have the agility of a jungle cat, I also feared the ladder failing while I was standing on the top (technically not a step) with both feet, falling and breaking my neck. So it was time for a change. This ladder is certainly heavier than the old one but not too heavy to carry around. It's taller, with 3 actual locking steps AND a top grab bar you can lean against for balance. If my old wooden ladder lasted 3 decades this steel and hard plastic one should last 100 years.

I've had this for over a year now, and it's in almost daily use in my household. It is rock sturdy and easy to transport. I don't think twice about stepping on it, even to the top step. The feet are rubbery and grip the floor and there isn't even a milliliter of wobble. If I had any complaint, it would just be that there are some sharp edges on the plastic on the underside of the top step, where the lever to collapse the steps for storage is found. I've scratched myself fumbling for the lever a few times. But that's honestly a very small detail given that the product performs its main function so well. If you want a step-ladder you feel safe and secure on, look no further.
