I have used the first can of six that I purchased and it appears to perform as described. I recently bought a 2015 Ford F-350 dually pickup from the local Ford Dealer here in Cary, North Carolina. The truck only had 3000 miles on it, but was sold as used and "as is". I should have inspected more thoroughly, as the underside is covered in rust! After much research, I decided on using Rust Oleum's Rust Reformer. After removing the rear bumper, I found the two attachment brackets to be totally covered in rust. I soaked these in white vinegar overnight, which removed 98% of the rust. I then washed in Hot water w/ Dawn to neutralize the vinegar, rinsed in water, dried, and then applied two coats of Rust Reformer. There were several rusted areas on the inside of the bumper, so I used a small wire brass brush on the loose rust, scrubbed with Hot water and Dawn, let it dry thoroughly, and then sprayed with Rust Reformer. The product covers the areas completely and is paintable with a Top Coat; Rust Oleum Gloss Black, after 24 hours.. which I will do today. This is the plan for the entire underside of the truck. I will update this review every six months to report on whether or not the rust returns in the areas treated.

Use it on rust on truck frame to slow and stop rust. works as described. remove all loose rust then spray Rust reformed wait 24 hours top coat with black spray paint. Usually keeps rust from spreading. I touch up areas that do rust through after a year or so but it really does minimize its growth. 5 cans usually will cover average frame. Use a good mask save you lungs. **********UPDATE March 2017*************** I have used this product on other rusted chassis past few years........ If you follow instruction spray rust wait 24 hrs then over paint. After a year my truck which I sprayed last March.and using it all winter. No rust has come through my truck, a few little chips but thats it. It remains solid black and rust free. This spring I will power wash chassis touch up any small areas and repaint the chassis again to insure it remains that way. If air cant get to treated rust it cant start again. I also did my daughters car 2 years ago which had a lot of surface rust when she bought it used. I did same thing and now after 2 winters and me not retreating it, I was surprised to see after 2 winters only some rust has come through but nothing compared to what shape it was in. I use this product every spring to keep my older cars that drive in an area that salts the roads in the winter frequently and for the hour or so it takes me to recoat and repaint and the 35.00 it costs me between this product and inexspensive black spray paint to top coat. To keep rust at bay. Its well worth it +++++++++Sept 2018=== still holds out keeping rust away. I just ordered another 6 cans to do a 05 Mercury Mariner. I just bough I have the start of very Minimal surface rust so I brushed and with air pressure to blow clean. Took off each wheel all exposed metal then down under rocker panels rear wheels. Tomorrow I will top coat with paint. Its a lot of work but once it covered I know it works. I do power wash road salt on my trucks and cars coming in after a snow and they are garage kept. I do get very minimal specs of rust that will appear after a long winter. I just hit them quick then respray with paint. But nothing compared to the whole chassis .If you car fully over taken with deep rust this may slow it but the cancer has set in deep when its that bad

sprayed clean and free of bubbles or splatters. Covered a rust prone surface (the cover of the differential in my truck) and it's stayed rust free. I live near the beach where EVERYTHING rusts, but this has done a great job protecting the metal!

This stuff is unbelievable. I don't sand or anything, just paint over the rust and gives you a smooth surface when dry. I use to paint truck frames.

Great stuff! Moderate brushing of loose flake or rust, spray on some soap, rinse off, let dry and that's the prep! This product covers very nicely, sprays on evenly and it is magic-- turns rust into a rock hard finish you can't flake off and can paint over if it's something you'll see. Good coverage from the 10-oz. can if you don't go crazy with it. I'm using it on my vintage trailer frame, its perfect for that. Big Caveat, though: this stuff is Totally Toxic, so you must use it outdoors with fans to blow fumes away from you! Don't use it without a very good grade paint mask, or better a respirator, and cover your body, wear sealing goggles, it still made my eyes tear up! Be careful with it and do NOT let your kids use it, adults only. Good product if you exercise caution.

I use this product mainly for touching up the undercarriage of my cars before and after a long salty winter. The can is easy to use, can be sprayed evenly even at odd angles. Unlike most paints the surface does not need to be oil free to be painted. This is especially important while working on undercarriages as it makes the process a lot easier and faster. All I do is take a wire brush to remove any loose rust or paint flakes, then wipe down with a rag to remove any remaining dust, shake the can well, and spray away. 2-3 coats is all it takes to fully coat a rusted metal part.

Make sure to lay it on pretty thick, or it dries out pretty rough. Converts rust AWESOMELY. Don't try and use this as an overall primer though, it doesn't level out very nice. Hit the area with rust, let it dry and convert, then clean up and spray a regular primer.

I've used this over the years for rusty garage doors, metal cellar doors and many other rusted metal surfaces. I always use it as a primer before applying Rustoleum paint. It really DOES "reform" the rust. I did my metal garage doors that were BADLY rusted five years ago with this product and then Rustoleum paing and they look as good as the day I did them. I live where it gets very hot in summer and very cold in winter. If you use this BEFORE your regular rustoleum paint, it will last a very long time.

I used this to touch up heavily rusted running boards. It works really well. You almost don't have to put a top coat of paint on unless to really want to match everything around it, It has a nice flat finish to it that is better than the usual primer.

This product is purely incredible. After using some wire-like brushes to get off any surface rust, I applied this spray. It is amazing how much of a difference this product makes and also reduces my anxiety about the rust spreading further along. Tip: I would HIGHLY recommend finding someone with a lift. I was fortunate enough to have one accessible. I can't imagine trying to do this without one.
