I picked up this unit as i was sick of trying to read 10 shades of light blue for other tests i have purchased. Comes in a nice box with everything you need to test (though i wish more than 6 came with the unit). Always a slight learning curve but i find it much easier than other tests. Few things to note from use and online reading: -use the same vial for blank and testing (if the glass gets stained slightly or dirty, it will zero the unit improperly) -wipe off the vial prior to blanking and reading -have the packet ready to add so that as soon as blanking is done, you can mix in the powder. After two minutes the unit shuts off so best to ready. I can't comment on how accurate this unit is vs other tests or repeatable as i have not tested this. I can only say i really just go for relative numbers on my saltwater tank, not down to the second digit. Only negative would be getting the powder in is a bit of pain but not the end of the world.

I use it for salt water aquarium, fresh water aquarium and salt water swimming pool. Gives consistent results. Much better then multiple test kits I used to have before. This Low range checker measures phosphate 0-2.5 ppm. Hanna instruments makes so called Marine version of this checker HI774 with ultra low range range 0-0.9 ppm and High range version HI717 0-30ppm.

If you've used titration PO4 tests where you have to compare to a color chart you know how hard it is to get a reliable result. This checker takes all that guess work out of the measurement. I also use the calcium and alkalinity checkers and trust the results of all three. But for those who have never used Hanna checkers note the results are only as accurate as your measurement methods. 10ml means 10ml, when it says dissolve reagent for 2 minutes you need to shake it for two minutes and so on. But if you are accurate and consistent with your testing process you'll get accurate and consistent results.

In saltwater tanks, phosphate levels are critical to be as close to 0 as possible (0.02 or lower). The HI713 offers an affordable method of getting accurate phosphate readings - WAY better than the API phosphate test which is as close to useless as can possibly get and still be holding a product.

I don’t know what I would do without my Hanna checkers

For the price, I wish it came with more regent packets. I love the Hanna checkers. They are simple to use and accurate readings.

I have been impressed with the accuracy of this meter. I had used the API test kits for some time and there were some issues with the readings when I compared them to my local LFS. So I paid the extra cash for this device and have been impressed. It's a quick and simple process. My only complaint is that I wish the replacement packets were cheaper or you received more. Otherwise this is a good buy for the committed hobbyist.

I love this tester! Every other tester I have used was difficult and results can not be duplicated to the level this tester can. Easy steps, good instructions, and accurate. Good for reef aquariums and freshwater.

Best investment I have made for my reef.
