Protects 65L backpack while traveling!
June 9, 2016 Product Update: I reviewed the Duffle below and wanted to add one more picture to the collection. I'm heading to Nepal tomorrow and collected 27 pairs of running sneakers to deliver to the mountain running community. There is an organization there that collects gently used or new sneakers to donate to mountain runners of all ages. Nepalese live on less than $2 a day. The earthquake is still leaving a lasting impression on the small villages that have been neglected by the government. Anyway, you'll be able to see how this duffle allows me to transport lots of sneakers! Both EMS and REI have their own packable duffle bag which is used to protect backpacks while flying to your destination. They stuff inside of a their pocket and measure approximately 8x10x2. EMS's bag is $49 and 38" long. REI's bag is $29 and 36" long. After purchasing both I found the Samsonite Tote-a-ton and returned the more expensive bags. The tote-a-ton is cheap in $ but not in quality. The durable material is the same as the more expensive duffles with two sturdy handles to lift. There's outside pocket and inside pocket, too. I have an Osprey Aura AG 65L. The pack is approximately 31 inches long. It fits perfectly into the duffle with room to spare. I haven't actually packed the backpack but feel confident it will still fit into the duffle. I am packrafting in Alaska this summer. I need something that will safely get my backpack and gear to Alaska. While in Alaska I will use my backpack for day trips/rafting and my gear will go into the duffle which will be hauled, by the outfitter, to the next location. Perfect solution! Plus, in the future, when I travel and don't need the duffle, it collapses perfectly and can be stuffed into my pack without taking up a lot of space. I have a friend traveling to Nepal in March. I showed her the duffle and she's purchasing one to protect her backpack, too. Great deal. We'll see how it holds up in June and I'll report back then :-) UPDATE July 14, 2015: I just returned from my 10 day trip to South Central Alaska. The duffle was perfect for this trip! Just like I mentioned above...the duffle protected my 65L when I checked it on the plane and then I used it to store my gear and clothing while using my backpack for packrafting during the day. The placement of the zipper made the bag easy to get in and out of. I'm not sure how well the material will continue to hold up because it is rather light weight. It was pretty dirty after being checked on the plane. I don't travel regularly so it may be a while before it gets used again. However, the light weight factor can be a plus if you are backpacking and have to stow the duffle in your backpack. I'd still highly recommend it!

Perfect fit for backpacks Airline approved for checked baggage.
My Boy Scout Troop used these to carry their backpacks as checked luggage out Colorado this summer. Heavy duty and perfect for what we needed.

This should be good to go for an inexpensive solution
I needed something to put a large external frame backpack in so I could safely check it as luggage on an airplane. I can't have all the shoulder and waist band and cinch down straps getting torn up getting loaded on the plane. My son and I are going to Philmont Scout Ranch next summer and will need to fly to get there. I got 2 of these and put my backpack (the larger of the two) in one and this swallows it up. I have a Jansport Carson 80 liter pack. Jansport external frame packs have loops, if you will, of frame above and below the pack to give the frame a little extra rigidity. I can remove the top hoop if needed and I was afraid I'd need to. I didn't want to because that exposes the frame to the possibility of getting damaged while in handling in the airlines baggage system and getting thrown around, and I was afraid the extra loop of frame wouldn't go back in. The frame is about 3 inches longer than the stated dimensions of the bag. No worries. The bag is flexible enough that the backpack fit inside anyway, and there is plenty of room to stuff some extra gear in there too. This should be good to go for an inexpensive solution. I've got some velcro luggage handle wrap to hold the handle straps together so they won't get caught in any conveyor parts as easily.

Perfect protection for 65 L backpack
Bought to protect my $100+ backpack as a check-in baggage in airports, planes, tranes, buses, etc. Almost perfect! I've made one important addition to the handle (velcro wrap) in the very beginning before my first use to keep both handles together and avoid trapping in the moving conveyor belts and carousels. It is so rare today to see such an inexpensive, simple and optimal user friendly design & construction for transportation and outdoor purposes. When bag is fully unzipped to the bottom it lays flat on the floor, no need to push things into, just put a backpack on and other stuff and zip from both sides - done. See my step-by-step images for the purple bag (my camera showed it blue). When empty compacts to a book size (see my posted photo with DVD, book and phone for comparison) and weighs a pound or little more. Insert it in your backpack and hike to backcountry. Almost 5-star product and hats off to the designers (except missed velcro).

PERFECT travel bag, easily folds up.
This was by far one of the smartest purchases I have ever made for travelling. This duffle bag is super strong and allows you to pack a TON of stuff! I transported a ton of decorative pillows/blankets and other items for a house we own overseas (over 50 pounds worth of stuff), and wanted something I could just fold up once I had unloaded everything on the other end, and this was not only super strong and solid, but also very easy to fold up into my carry on on the way back. Highly recommended. UPDATE: I am going on another trip to France and once again, this bag is coming in super handy for me because I am taking a bunch of gifts back with me for the family, as well as more decorative throw pillows for our vacation home there. I am up to 53 pounds on this trip, with this bag, which I could not do with any of my other bag. (If you travel long distance quite a bit, and are looking for a travel pillow as well, I use a foam travel pillow that does a great job of supporting your neck while sleeping: Enzo Travel Neck Pillow - Memory Foam Cooling Gel Technology and Washable Cover Packed in Small Bag for Air, Bus and Car Travels Bourgeoisie Red Color

Nothing better!
These are great - I use for stuffing full of things to send my married children who live overseas. Amazing how much each one can fit, and you don't lose any of your weight allowance on the weight of a suitcase. And then on the return trip I can just stuff it empty into my suitcase and away we go!

Beat the airlines at the weighing game...
You have to understand the utility of this bag to appreciate it. The bag as it is weighs nearly nothing. Full, it holds the same amount as a large suitcase. In my most recent trip which is still ongoing, this carried a full 50 pounds plus of items to its destination. Those items were intended to go in one and only one direction (not come back). So, this is ideal. It carried the 50 pounds of items, unloaded at its destination, folded up into nothing and will return empty weighing in at less than a pound. It has no over the shoulder harness or strap. It would likely add weight, which is not desired. The zipper is very light weight, and you will want to have something that holds it shut. It opened during this trip, and although nothing was lost, it did alert me that you should have something that holds it closed firmly. Maybe a small lock or just twist ties will do, but something. The bag made its trip fine, though, and looks as new as when it left even though it traveled thousands of miles loaded to the brim. Thus, the bags main utility is to carry a large amount of goods while not weighing much itself. WIth the airlines stiffing folks for baggage costs, this is a work-around to optimize what you carry. In this trip, I am traveling to UK, where many food items in the US are not available. Worked like a charm to bring 50 pounds of them here. It will go back empty in my brief case. Some of my other bags weigh about 10 pounds all by themselves when empty. So, when you are bumping into that weight restriction boundary, this will get that extra 10 or so pounds through the gate. This bag is all about beating the airlines at their own game. I want an overcoat that works like this too. :-)

Lasted a 8000 mile trip through 3 airports and did pretty well
I bought these about 3 months back and waited for my trip to complete before I wrote a review. Need: Need to travel 8000 miles to India with just 2 bags and come back with 6 bags .... Bought 4 of these and packed in my luggage on my way to India. In India - after all my shopping, opened these bags, just dumped books, clothes, utensils ... all kinds of stuff, zipped it up and tied a cable tie. Bags traveled from Bangalore to Hong Kong, then to Chicago and then a drive to Minneapolis. Not a scratch, not a tear. Truly awesome bags - best $20 that I spent on a bag. Tip: Additionally I put a cable fastener (cable tie) around the zips to prevent accidental opening. You cannot lock it due to TSA regulations, but you can close it with a cable tip.

This bag exceeds my expectations and for the price it is a good deal
It's such a good quality bag, and it's huge! I need it to carry an auto part overseas, and none of my luggage pieces was of any use. So glad I ordered this one, you can pack a ton of stuffs in it, I just hope the airline doesn't give me a hard time saying it's over 62" linear because it does look like it could be way over that, but just in case I snapped a picture of the box with the measurements. I will be ordering one more soon. UPDATE, I'm very impressed by the quality of this bag. It held up nicely during a round trip international flight, I was able to fill it up with 50 lbs with no problem. My only concern was the zipper but I was able to use a TSA lock.
