These are great quality tongs. I'm a fan of OXO kitchen gear and the tongs are no exception. I have these in all the sizes - 9", 12", and 18" bbq tongs. I've gotta say the 12" silicone tipped version is my go-to when I'm cooking. It's easy to handle all foods with it, the silicone tips won't scratch nonstick pans and the silicone handles don't transfer heat. They lock up nice and tight for easy drawer storage by closing and pulling the ring on the top/back, and can be opened with one hand by just giving a the hangle little squeeze and touching the ring to your hip making it ideal for wielding around a kitchen with alot going on. I bought a second 12" model recently so I always have one to use while the other's in the dishwasher. My original one has been used 3-7 times a week for about 4 years and I can only tell which is which if i really look hard. Bottom line is great tongs, great durability, great usability. A+

It seems most tongs that don't have metal heads have nylon heads. Well, as someone who cooks quite a lot, those nylon heads usually end up peeling, shredding and getting bits of plastic pieces in your food. Or, if you have a very old gas stove, as I do, if you leave the tongs on the stove, even in a spoon rest, they melt. I had been searching far and wide for tongs with silicone heads... and then I came upon the OXO ones. As a long time fan of good grips products, I purchased them. So far, I have been quite pleased. The do their job, and they don't melt if accidentally left on the stove.

These are my first set of OXO Good Grips Tongs with silicone tips. They are very easy to use and my 10 year old can easily pick up sausage with these. {Good for little hands}. I don't have that tiny of hands, but they seem comfortable for me as well. I will update this review as time goes on to see how they hold up with lots of use and cooking with my new cast enameled braiser. We purchased the 12 inch which is think is great for cooking on a stove, etc. The 16 inch would be helpful with very deep pots and/or maybe the grill outside. I am thinking of buying another one of these and then just a plain stainless steel one with no silicone tips. {For when I'm using my stainless steels posts and don't need the silicone tips}. Overall, I'm satisfied with this purchase. I would buy again.

Have been trying to find tongs to use in non-stick pans. The styles I have purchased in this quest do not hold food as they should, the silicone is breaking/tearing after only a few uses, and, in general, are clumsy and not easy to use. I love these tongs, which I purchased after looking at Cook's Illustrated recommendations. Glad I followed their advice.

there are many tongs and many of them look alike. some are longer, some are shorter, and some have plastic instead of silicone heads or only metal. I wanted a tong with silicone to protect my fingers where I hold it, and silicone to protect my pans and get a good grip on food. I wanted it sturdy and long enough to keep me away from the flames but not too long so it became a challenge to coordination (we're not talking about outdoor grilling here). I saw many version along the way, most of which had hard plastic instead of silicone heads. uh uh. so I love them. they get pride of place in the kitchen on a hook only an arms length away from primary work station position.

Fantastic tongs! - Silicone head, so you can use in any pan without fear of scratching - Lock to keep closed that will not accidentally pop open - Strong grip that doesnt slip when lifting heavy items, cuts of meat, etc. - Dishwasher safe - has held up great after multiple washes. Update August 2014: still going strong after(at least) weekly use and runs through the dishwasher. The locking mechanism occasionally pops open depending on how I store the tongs, but it doesn't affect use. Still very happy with purchase

Perfect size for the kitchen drawers. Long enough to turn foods in the oven and not get too close to the heat. The silicone ends grabs things well, but also because it is silicone, it gets slippery if grease (from meats, etc.) get on them. I like the pull-latch end to keep them closed in the drawer most of all. Always like OXO products.

The idea of a tong seems pretty straight forward and at first I questioned how a tong could be bad. Once I got the Oxo Tongs I realized how a tong can standout from the competition. You want a tong that is sturdy enough and well built that you can use and feel comfortable when using but also to be delicate enough that when you grasp something you destroy it. In addition you dont want your tongs to be metal and scratch your pan or plastic that will burn (silcone is hands down your best bet). These tongs are strong enough to grab a steak off the grill but still delicate enough to grab a taco shell without ripping it. THe grip feels comfortable in my hand as well as my wife's hand which is much smaller than mine. The tongs are well made and have stood the test of time. My wife normally buys Rachel Ray products but I feel that the Oxo Tongs are better made than any of her Rachel Ray cooking tools.

Very nice, heavy seat of tongs. They have the 600° silicone tips. They lock, by pulling the hanging tab out, just like most other tongs. My only problem is that the angle of the tips prevent you from easily picking up multiple items. It's kind of irritating, to be honest. Otherwise, they seem to be quite sturdy, and heavy. They are very rigid, and do not flex when squeezed with great pressure. Well made.

If you're like me, tongs are instrumental in just about everything I cook in the kitchen. As a result, I've now got a collection of 6 OXO tongs. I started with the Nylon Head tongs (good for enameled cast iron), then discovered the silicon head tongs. After about a year of regular use, I can say with confidence these are the best kitchen tongs I have ever used. The heat resistance, grabbing strength, build quality, and locking mechanism are all on point. In my opinion, well worth the extra money for such a necessary tool!
