After my cat had to have emergency surgery due to a life threatening kidney stone blockage the vet recommended we try this brand of urinary tract cat food to prevent future stones. I was previously buying it at the pet store which was pretty expensive but certainly less expensive than another $4k surgery! My husband was the one to suggest we try to get it cheaper offline which I thought would be impossible once you took into account the shipping cost. However we have amazon prime so we don't have to pay shipping for this. I was happily surprised to find that it was indeed cheaper to buy it here. Plus it only takes two days to show up and on a few occasions it has arrived earlier, even once on the same day. My cat is a picky eater but luckily he loves this brand. If you have a male cat be warned, they are prone to urinary problems which can be both life threatening and extremely expensive to fix. If I even get another male cat I won't take any chances and will put them on this food once they are off kitten food. IMO it's worth it to avoid the pain and expense of kidney stones.

I have 11 indoor cats and another 6 who find their way to my yard at mealtime. 16 out of 17 cats love this food. I think that is a great approval rating! One of our cats had serious digestive issues and was being treated by our vet. In addition to prescription meds, we added Vitapet Probiotic Powder Blend For Dogs and Cats with 5 Billion CFU Per Serving with food daily. Larry's appetite improved after he started on this and is back to normal now and we are continuing the supplement as his weight improves. We were pleased to find this probiotic available at a good price through Amazon, and have it on autoship. Thanks, Vitapet, for offering this product!

***UPDATE***10/18/16*** Today I received a new case of the UTHF Chicken Entre that I ordered on 10/16/16. I opened the first can and it is different from previous cans/cases- it's much more liquidy - the texture is different (less chunky, more ground) - the smell is similar, but not exactly the same. The worst part is that he won't eat it! I opened a 2nd and 3rd can- hoping there were just a few odd ones, but they are all the same. I still had 1 can from the previous case, so I opened it and, sure enough, he dug right in. What has happened??? Did I get a case that's from the bottom of the batch or has the formula changed? Do I shell out for another case and hope it turns out okay again? This is really frustrating. I'd love to know if anyone else has had this same problem. ***Original Review*** This Pro Plan UT formula has not only been a HUGE hit with my 7 y/o feline friend, it has made a noticeable improvement in his overall health. Because he is an indoor cat, urinary tract issues are my main concern as he gets older. I transitioned him to this formula about 2 months ago and I've seen an improvement in his energy and appearance. Best of all, he LOVES it!! Dinner time has become a much more anticipated event. He's always had the chicken variety, so I tried the whitefish in my last order. It was a total BOMB - DUD - NO SALE...! He absolutely wound not touch it. So, it's back to the chicken. I'm afraid he will get tired of it, but maybe not. I don't want to get stuck with another case of food he won't eat, but I'd like to at least test out the other couple of available flavors. My usual shopping destinations (Kroger, Target, etc...) don't stock it and I've checked a couple others without success. My next plan is to try a big chain pet place. I'm hoping to find it sold by single cans and get one of each variety to test his highness's opinion. All cat owners (aka their "staff") know how that is. It's just part of the joy- or so I tell myself. But, the bottom line is that this food has proved both popular and beneficial and I'd certainly recommend it.

[UPDATE] It has been nearly one year since my first review and I'm happy to report that my cat has not experienced ANY veterinarian problems. No bladder issues, healthy coat, and looking great! I can't recommend this product enough! Also, you think he would get sick of eating the same food for a year straight... NOT TRUE! He makes sure I know every night when it's can time! [ORIGINAL REVIEW] Two months ago (December 2013) my cat had to be brought into an emergency clinic. They proclaimed that he had a blocked bladder and required immediate medical attention, placing a catheter in him and giving him an IV. He stayed overnight and was so bad that they suggested he should stay even longer. I was told he had crystals in his urine and everything needed to be flushed out. Due to financial constraints, I took him home after one overnight stay. The medical bills were outrageous and I am just a college student. There was no way I could afford to keep him there any longer. I was told that there was a high likelihood of of him reblocking in the next few days. I did a lot of research on the internet and decided to purchase Purine One Urinary Tract dry food AND this Purine Urinary Tract canned food. I found that it is very important to include more liquids in his diet. Therefore, I started my own regimen. I feed him the dry food in the morning and afternoon and in the evening I give him one can. He is a big cat, 14 pounds, so I generally feed him quite a bit of dry food (you can find it on Amazon or even in Walmart). I make sure he has plenty of water in his bowl throughout the day. I even add ice cubes to entice him to drink more. It's so important to get those fluids in!! The first week he came home from the vet I was paranoid. I placed water bowls all over the house and put a little chicken broth in the water so he would drink it. I immediately stopped feeding him his old food (Purina Naturals) and started him on this. I feel his bladder to make sure it never feels firm like a peach (sign of obstruction). He hasn't had a single issue! I am so happy to say that this food seems to be doing wonders for him. His chances of making it through this were rough and we beat the odds. However, I would definitely suggest feeding the canned food everyday. If you can, try to feed two cans a day because that liquid is just so important. Unfortunately, I don't have it in my budget to give him two cans a day so I stick to one. Overall, great product!

My cat had crystals last summer. I spent $600 in vet bills. He does not like to drink water and does not like wet food. I used the vet's suggestions of buying a cat water fountain and buying different kinds of wet food. The water fountain was met with hesitation and he would not drink out of it. I tried every kind of wet food in the store and he would not touch it. He started to show signs of having problems again and I actually started forcing him to drink with a turkey baster. I decided to take a risk and buy a full case of this food. At first the cat would not eat it. Then, all of the sudden one day he started to eat it. Now he scarfs it down. I have tried to replace it with cheaper wet food but he won't touch it. Every since the cat started eating this food he has not had another health problem. I will continue to buy because he is a picky brat and actually likes this one. He also started to drink out of the water fountain.

No exaggeration, this saved our cat from being euthanized. She is elderly and was having continual kidney issues, blood in her urine, straining, etc. She also was losing a ton of weight and vomiting. Many visits to the vet, prescription food (that she wouldn't touch) and repeated rounds of medication that she hated getting. We decided it was no life for a cat to live, constantly ill and unhappy. We made an appointment for a week out to give us time to prepare, and I bought this food in the meantime to give her something she'd enjoy eating but be easier on her unhealthy kidneys. We canceled the appointment (obviously). She loves this food, though she has to eat smaller portions 4x per day as her stomach shrank from not eating much before. I mash up half a can with a shot glass amount of bottled water and she eats it right up! Her urine is now COMPLETELY clear - after months of clots and pink urine that alone was a huge relief. I know she had to have been hurting through all those treatments that didn't work! :( She has gained a few ounces and wants attention and affection again. She's still elderly, so I don't know how much longer we'll have her, but anything that gives her more HEALTHY time with her family is well worth it to us! P.S. We also switched slowly to the dry food of this as her 'treats' as other cat treats aggravated her kidneys again. No issues since the switch. The other product we are using is Tomlyn Senior Vitamin & Calorie Paste (name may not be exact). She doesn't love the taste but I give her a glob on her tongue a couple times a day before mealtimes.

My cat loves some of the flavors of the Purina Pro Plan Focus Urinary Formula. I'm giving this review 5 stars for the Ocean Whitefish flavor. Before you stock up on any of the 5 varieties, I'd suggest you go to a pet store where you can buy 1 can of each flavor just to find out what your cat likes. Then come back and order a case of it from Amazon. Here's how I rank the flavors: 1. Ocean Whitefish - My cat loves this stuff and immediately started scarfing it down the first time I opened a can. He loves this more than all the others by a mile. 2. Salmon - He likes this one a lot. 3. Beef & Chicken - Not too bad. He'll sniff it a bit and take some time to think about it, but he'll eat it. He doesn't usually finish it. 4. Turkey & Giblets - Cat will eat it if this is all you give him, but he'd rather have something else. He sniffs it for awhile and walks away, then comes back and sniffs and walks away again. Eventually he'll eat about half of it. 5. Chicken - My cat won't eat this at all, even when he's really hungry. I tried giving it to my neighbor cat and he's barely interested in it, and he's a big fat boy that loves all kinds of food.

I have the world's choosiest cat. This is further complicated by her on and off issues with her urinary tract. So back in 2015 we tried this food out and she loved it. She didn't like the original which was chicken slices in gravy – too much work for Her Majesty to chew. However, the Chicken Entrée is close enough to being a pate that she no longer had a problem with the big chunks. After feeding this to her for a couple of weeks, I then confidently (foolhardedly?) ordered 2 cases and... she put her little nose up in the air and said "No more!". Sigh... I then moved forward on a quest to find a new food that Her Majesty would eat. All the while, I kept the Pro Plan in my pantry thinking that I would give it away at some point to a shelter. Well, fast forward 18 months, and Her Majesty turned her nose up at another food that I thought she liked. (Side note... her aversions do not happen gradually... it's a sudden "I don't like this anymore" that kind of takes your breath away due to how quickly she changes her mind.) What to do? With bated breath, I hesitantly pulled open the door of my pantry to start my search for the stockpiled ProPlan Focus Urinary Tract Chicken Entrée cans. I know what you're thinking. Why bother? And yes, that had been my first thought. But my second thought was... Why not? All she could do was say "No!" (Or more likely "Meow, no!"). So I put half a can of the food in a bowl, turned on some mood lighting and soft music, and in a groveling manner (making sure to avert my eyes from her visage) placed the bowl near Her Majesty's throne. And, SHE LIKED IT! She cleaned her bowl quickly, but in a very ladylike and regal manner, of course. Now - many days later, she continues to feast on this nectar of the gods. The kingdom was gleeful for a time. And then - today for fun I tried to slip some of her old favored food to her (not Pro Plan) and I could see that she was about to go full Alice-In-Wonderland Queen of Hearts on me ("Off with your head!"). I quickly removed the offending food from her presence and replaced with her favored Purina Pro Plan Focus Urinary Tract Chicken Entrée (with full orchestral accompaniment, of course). She is now lounging on her throne, waving her scepter around in an imperious manner, and knighting everyone that passes by. But all is well in the kingdom (for now) and peace has been restored. If you too are seeking peace and harmony from your own little despot, may I suggest trying the Purina Pro Plan Focus Urinary Tract food? You will be happy you did.

My kitty is 17 now....and has been on special diets for urinary tract health for almost 6 years. He (yuppers..male) had also had huge urinary tract issues!! But the other food was super pricey..gave this a s***and he loves it!! I have both of my cats eating it now...since my female is 18 and I think she thinks she is getting spoiled with wet food. Please also know older cats are prone to not eat dry food if they start getting mouth or teeth pain. My female sometimes doesnt eat the dry stuff...half because I think she knows I have wet food and she wants to wait me out...and the other half is at 18 she has started to get softer gums. I have had them both since kittens and will keep them as healthy as possible until they go to kitty heaven! Great food, great price, awesome delivery, and my kitties love it. I switch up the flavors for them to keep it interesting. Lol!

My one year old Persian developed painful crystals. We use Pro-Plan Urinary Tract Health wet food and a vet purchased name brand dry to prevent crystals. My cat did not like vet brand wet food so I was excited when I saw Purina had something for urinary crystals too. Pro Plan is reasonably priced which is nice and he actually eats it! I am thankful we have found a good blend of products that help prevent crystals and keep kitty happy. As of our last vet visit we have no crystals present in his urine! WooHoo!
