Always wanted one since a friend of mine used it for hotpot night. It heats the hotpot up nicely and it's extremely easy to adjust the temperature on it. It's a great item to use for dinner parties as it holds so much food. And it is extremely useful during Chinese new year hotpot dinners!

I waited awhile before writing this review to test the performance and I have to say I much prefer cooking with this electric cooker than on my stove top. So far I've had no sticking problems when cooking nor have I had any problems w/ sticking when cleaning the pan. There have been no problems with the finish bubbling up or flaking off of the non stick coating. I love the temperature control - I can leave spaghetti sauce simmering for hours, or I can saute vegetables w/o oil, or I can even brown steak or chicken nicely w/o oil. I also really like the feature of being able to remove the cook pan from the heating unit - I put the light weight pan & lid in the fridge & when ready for dinner I just place the cook pan & lid back on the heating unit to reheat. My Mom listened to me brag about this pan so much that she asked me to order one for her & she would reimburse me. My Mom said she likes it - her favorite feature is the removable cook pan & lid to put directly in the fridge & back on the cooking unit to reheat. This would be a great gift someone cooking in a college dorm that has a small fridge.

I just received this yesterday and oh my its BIG!!! I didn't expect it to be that big but I'm not complaining, in fact I'm happy its big I can cook a large meal and save it in the fridge to eat all week. I am not going to be using my stove after this. I have an old stove and this is why I got this, it was driving me crazy- taking forever to cook, and doesn't heat evenly. My stove has only ONE large burner (Ridiculous) I can't exactly buy a new stove either because I live in an apartment:( ANYWAY...this is my savior now. I will not touch that stupid stove again. I can grill my salmon in here, make my stews, rice, eggs- whatever. I made my first meal in this last night. Chicken curry- awesome result. Easy to clean too. I might get another one for a friend as a gift... Get it. You're going to enjoy it. Just make sure you have enough counter space... its HUGE! ****UPDATE** I bought this item in January 2013, today is July 31st 2014 and it's still working. It has served me VERY well. I've enjoyed making stews and all sorts of things with it I rarely use my stove. Anyway this update is to just say that the non-stick coating inside is chipping really bad. Maybe it's due to heavy use? I don't know. I try to be kind to it when washing, I don't scrub too hard or use harsh scrubbing sponges etc.... I'm considering purchasing another one as I'm concerned with the chipping stuff. However, overall good product, I just hoped that it would last, remain intact for a little longer than 16 or so months... Just something to keep in mind before you buy. I love this company by the way, I have other products from them.

Here is a very simple fact about a good hot pot: it needs to provide sustainable heat. I have used many different pots, some would take a long time to boil, some would either boil the s*** out of the soup or not boil at all, it's very hard to find one that can bring stable heat that keeps a light boil as you put things in it. Also, since you can take the pot off, it's a lot easier to clean. One thing I was very impressed is the nonstick Surface. I have used it to make pancake and crepe, because it is so good that I don't need to use much oil. The only problem I have is this pot is slightly bigger than other hot pot I have owned before, since I have a small apartment, it takes some space. However, if you a looking for a good hot pot that last for long time, this is definitely worth to buy

Super versatile - we bought it when we were remodeling our kitchen and made everything in it - scrambled eggs for breakfast to stews to even pancakes. Even now, we use it instead of the stove. The nonstick interior pan is easy to clean and the entire appliance is attractive enough to put on the table and cook or serve. Great purchase!

Fabulous. Perfect size. Practical for a busy mum and great fun for the family. Arrived yesterday and used right away to make our very first hot pot dinner. All chopped up and cooked in under 30 minutes. The kids loved the vegetables and chicken. A touch of soy sauce with lemon made the soup unbeatable. We're a family of 4 with 2 teenagers and we all loved sitting around the simmering pot and choosing our favorites out of the pot. We added some Udon noodles to the pot at the end and they were perfect too. We'll be using this a lot. It couldn't be easier to use and clean. Just remember to use wooden serving spoons in the pot so you don't scratch the surface. Wash it with warm water and a tiny bit of detergent using a soft sponge or cloth. Dry it right away inside and out and brush or spread a tiny amount of olive oil on the inside of the pan.

Our first shabu shabu was successful. I wish the cord was a little longer since you shouldn't use an extension cord. But overall, we are very happy. Easy to adjust temperature, removal pot is easy to wash. Only question is how long non stick coating will last. We put rice at the end, I notice the slight change in color in the pot where rice got stuck after I washed.

We bought a tiger rice cooker and now this hot pot. Addicted to Japanese products

I've been looking for a better alternative to the conventional hot pot burner since it's a hassle to always buy the cans of gas and it takes too long to boil. I was contemplating whether or not to get the other version with the deep dish and flat plate, but I settled with this model. It comes with only the deep dish pot, but it was very versatile. The pot looks small in the picture, but it can actually fit a lot of meats and veggies. Since the pot is non-stick, I could see myself searing, braising and making stews in it because it is easier to clean. It is most likely going to be used for hot pot 99% of the time. It is relatively quick to bring the water to a boil. I had previously boiled the water before turning the pot on to the max of 430 degrees Fahrenheit. Took about 4 minutes to boil. Another selling point is that I could use the keep warm option to avoid my food from overcooking. Also, the electric cord is magnetic, so if any cord tripping occurs, the pot would not fly with you.

First off, the price clearly justifies itself because this is a quality peice. The metal skillet can be removed when hot, via the insulated handles. It also has a second set of handles so you can move the entire unit while hot. The outer 'shell', stays cool. There is no 'hot bottom' as with other skillets. I did a test with a full pan of water, and it boiled in less than 10 minutes with the lid on... however, I learned that with the lid off, it will only lightly boil. So, don't expect a full pan to actually have a 'rolling boil'. I did try it with about a half inch of oil, and it did get to the highest temp that I set it at within minutes. The 'pan' is about one eight inch thick, so it does have plenty of metal for a pan. Not flimsy. Over all, I guess that the only downside is that it will only lightly boil when it has a full pan of liquid uncovered. Covered, however, does give a rolling boil. But otherwise, it does do a great job, and handling, ergonomics, etc.... it's a fantastic buy for the price. Given the other 'skillets' that are around 20 - 30 bucks, I would easily buy this again any day. I've also used it while camping. I use a honda generator and breakfast (AND hot water for coffee took less that 15 minutes. That beats having to smell like charcoal or burning wood / smoke. This thing is a beast. You will love it.
