I am always messing around in my office, often using my desk as a workbench. Unfortunately, the wife has thrown a fit pointing out all the scratches created on my desk. In desperation I purchased this mat as much for its clean cut look as its potential functionality. I am happy to report that it works like a charm and actually facilitates cutting by creating a nonslip surface in a very comfortable feel as the knife cuts through the materials I am always messing with. The wife is happy and therefore I am happy and it gives my wife one other reason to say "I told you so"

Excellent value!

I love this mat!!! I found very little oder when first opening. The gray color is just what I needed to help me cut more accurately without a lot of other colors and lines to distract. I have cut a ton of fabric using a rotary cutter and the mat looks brand new. I’ve also found that the ruler lines are very accurate and exactly match up to my Olfa Frosted rulers. Such a great price for a quality mat.

I find the contrast measuring lines difficult.

Not the traditional green that many self healing mats are this is black and white and the reverse on the back. I find it distracting though with the contrasting areas. I think that if I need another in the future I will probably go with any solid color. I purchased this because I needed a smaller size mat to fit the top of a cabinet my husband built. Other than that it handles just as any other self healing cutting mat does. I STILL LOVE FISKARS just not this particular mat. I realize that some will find it useful but I use my various tools for truing up and even a smaller mat for the most time. When I use the larger mats it is for cutting multiple layers of fabric and for the length.

Love it

Great size and $10 cheaper than buying in-store. My mom has the 10x12 version, which I tried using an Xacto knife on. The Xacto knife left a small scratch, so I'd advise against using the mat for that, but it was perfect with my rotary cutter.

Added bonus to my sewing room

I have a fold down section on my sewing table and that is where I glued this mat. Now when I am sewing that section is already up so I can just reach over an cut/trim my quilt pieces without getting out anything else. Wish it had been about an inch wider so it would have been the perfect fit but it is working well.

Value for the money

Getting back into serious model working I had seen this used by other hobbyist and thought that it couldn't hurt to have a nice and stable mat to cut on, but the ruled sections are great time savers for measuring on the fly. The durability is fantastic also, so I would highly recommend to anyone that wants to remove the guesswork from model building.

Amazing Mat!

Allow me to begin by stating that I have NOT owned any other cutting/engineering mat beside this one. As a result of this, I am reviewing this as someone who went from having a bare desk to having this mat. This mat is wonderful and accomplishes the task it initially has set out which is to be used for cutting. I am able to cut on the mat and avoid damaging the desk underneath. However, it is also very effective for quick imperial measurements with the included inline markings. The big one though is that I was soldering one day and accidently dropped the soldering iron on the mat, burning a "hole" in the mat. Little did I realize that once I flipped from the light side to the dark side that the hole was not a hole at all. The dark side of the mat was intact. WOAH! Ever since that day I could officially say I am very happy with this mat. I would also like to mention I am writing this review well over a year after buying the mat. I bought the mat in August of 2015 and it is now January 2017 and I am still happily using this mat on my desk for all my engineering work.

Wonderful Tool

The mat came well packaged and in good condition. No "off" odors. Mat works great. Have used it several times to cut upholstery fabric using the Olfa rotary cutter and there are no slits or cuts in the mat; can't even tell its been used. The measure lines are accurate and allow a maximum cut of 18 x 24 using the outside border lines. I would recommend this mat to anyone that uses a rotary cutter. Excellent.

Nice quality at a great price!

Ok so I'm an avid crafter and I just recently got into sewing. Although this would've been nice for crafting I never really thought about getting one until now. This is AMAZING got cutting fabric and it's really good size. It has a dark and light side for darker or lighter fabrics so you can see through to make your cuts. It's not spongey like some self healing mats but I'm ok with it because it's easier to store because it's so thin. I don't have a craft table and use my kitchen table so this is perfect for what I need! Compared to other mats, this is the cheapest I've found at this size! The quality is nice it's not cheap material and I'd definitely recommend! Plus fiskars is a well known company and it comes with a warranty which makes me feel better if anything happens I won't have any problems getting ahold of the company! Again, most DEFINITELY recommend!

Great for sewing and crafting!! Best product I've purchased!!

So far, this is one of my better purchases everrrrrr. Large size mat; I keep it on my craft table top to protect the surface. I did get paint on it once and it wiped right off even when dry. The cutting guidelines are easy to read and placed where you need them. The best part is it doesn't slip around on the table when I'm using it like my old one did. I cut hundreds of squares of deco-mesh fabric with my rotary cutter and it worked perfectly!
