I've searched far an wide for keychain OC that wasn't bulky. This is by far the most compact I've found and I can't cite a single (major) flaw with it otherwise. I have not seen the effects of this particular formulation on a living creature, but I have been OC sprayed several times for training and trust me, OC works quite effectively ("Mace" being the generic civilian term for oleoresin capsicum). My experiences have mostly been with standard 10% OC and that is supposedly what this contains. You certainly don't want to get that stuff across the face! It's the "devil's p*ss"... I did a short test-spray once I got it and the rage and accuracy, while not terrific, were nonetheless better than I expected from an item so small. I was ultimately satisfied because I don't honestly think you could possibly get a longer or more accurate stream from an item this compact. It would be wise to buy an extra reload of solution and use one of them to practice with before carrying it. My only critique is that it takes a little bit of practice to learn how to pop the cap and engage the spray. You want this to be muscle memory. Fortunately, it is very easy to practice. Some other OC devices are designed so that you can know immediately by feel if it's facing the right way and if your palm and fingers are properly placed. Here, all you have is a small notch on the opposite side from the business end. So when you feel the notch, and it's facing you, you know you're pointed "downrange." There's no special notch or release for the top part but a simple upward push of the thumb anywhere on it will open it and then you're good to hose down your assailant. Not the greatest design, but satisfactory nonetheless. Final review: Men: Highly recommended if you're concerned about keeping your on-hand pepper spray compact. Make sure you practice both spraying and learning how to point and uncap it reflexively. Women: Still not a bad choice, but since most of y'all carry purses I would explore larger and more user-friendly sprays. Particularly something in a gel format. This will still suffice, however. Protip: wrap black electrical tape around the item itself so as not to draw any unwanted attention from having an item that says MACE on it. Not that there's anything wrong with people knowing you have a non-lethal force option at hand but, in my opinion, discretion is never a bad idea.

I haven't had to use it but I like the size for my key chain. I had a bigger one and didn't like how bulky it was. This is the smallest I could find and it's not any bigger than my window/seat belt breaker. It's a little tricky to open but after some practice I'll get used to it

Cute and compact. Don't listen to the other reviewers saying you can't tell where to point it. It has a little notch so you can feel and see which way it is supposed to be pointing. Not difficult at all and you can adjust it whichever way you want. It's slim and the size of one of those miniature flashlights.

Alright so I had bought this so I could have something small and discreet on my key chain. At the time I was riding my bike to work and this worked as a great pre caution... now... does it work? Well let me tell you a story. My girl friend was over just chit chatting and while I wasn't paying attention she grabbed my keys and starting investigating this pepper spray. She thought it was a flash light. Uncapped it and pressed down on it release a good amount of it on her self. I rushed to her and as I did so I inhaled some residue pepper spray. It automatically makes you cough up your lungs and your eyes get watery. The spray lingers. We had to exit the apartment for a good 30 minutes, opened all the windows and doors just to get it out. As for my girl friend she experienced everything I did much much worse. The affected area was also very VERY red. Later that night she told me that her skin was burning and she was still coughing (after taking a shower too). So there you go... yes it does work, it works very well.

Fits perfectly on the keychain, I hardly notice it compared to the other keys. But should I ever need it, I feel confident that I could brandish it while keeping my eyes forward and not looking down. One critique I have would be the cap. It has a tight hold, and to the touch, it feels secure. But, I have had a few instances where I found it open and the dispenser exposed. Which brings me to suggest a different type of cap maybe a clasp type, perhaps a push and slide. Overall, exactly what I was expecting and it delivers 5/5 stars in every category.

I feel like these are a must have for anyone, but specifically women. I’ve had a few different types of mace and this one is by far my favorite. The reason is due to the size and weight is the container. I had other ones that almost looked like inhalers. They were big and bulky and not at all convenient to carry around, especially on a key chain. This is the third of this brand that I have purchased. My second and I bought one for my mom. I am only buying another for myself because I lost my keys that had this on it. On my key chain I have a clip so that I’m able to easily remove this from my key ring if I have to go somewhere that doesn’t allow mace (like the airport or a concert). I’ve never had to actually spray the mace at anyone (thank God), so I can’t really attest to its quality, but it does give me (and my husband) piece of mind when I’m out and about. It’s lightweight and a little longer than a typical chapstick. I’m even able to conceal it in my bra no problem when I go on a walk after dark. So Last night I was walking home from the Bank and 4 teens followed me . I saw them coming when the first one attempted to attack me he was sprayed with this and immediately fell to the ground the other 3 ran away until the police caught them . Im very glad I bought this product.

Nice small size and easy to have on a key chain, or just in my pocket. I actually have one on my key chain and one in my pocket! I also like that there is a little metal lip on the silver part below the sprayer so that if it were dark out, or I couldn't look at the sprayer... I would still know by feel which way to point and spray it! Top stays put and has never popped open by accident while pulling in and out of pocket or while having on the key chain.

Accidentally sprayed this (which isn’t a flaw against the spray, more being dumb and glib on my part) and thought i was going to die. And i sprayed down onto a floor. Not even on my person but the little i inhaled and the fumes from that spot for the next few hours made me feel a lot more confident in this product.

I do love the size of this. It is not as bulky as my past pepper spray. The cap is not locked as secure as I would like. It is easy to flip on and off which could be a hazard and definitely not child proof.
