This is a good fast cutting stone, but doesn’t cut as fast as a dmt diamond stone. Rough side can reprofile an edge fairly quickly if you use a scrubbing type of stroke. When you first use it, it is quite rough, but smooths out with use. I flattened it with my dmt 325 plate to give it a nice consistant surface (and to flatten it). Can be used dry, just wipe off the metal shavings. Plus flattening it cleans it thoroughly.

OMG after spending so much money in fancy sharpeners, this is the best investment we've done so far! Just knowing how to use it, we could save our entire knives set that almost went to the trash. Do not pay for those other fancy sharpeners people, this is the best!

I just use water when I sharpen my knife and it works great. This fits well in my hand and since I had a small blade it is easy to sharpen while holding. For people with larger knifes, you may want to get a holder for it so you can use both hands to hold your bevel level without scratching whatever surface you are working on.

I have been looking for something like this for a very long time. It sharpens knives very well, but the best part is I can put it in the silverware drawer with no problems and I love the fact I do not have to plug it in.

How nice to have sharp knives again! A honing stick alone should keep a good knife sharp for years and years. Unfortunately, one day, some day, they reach a point where re-sharpening is necessary. I have been buying and using one or the other 'handy' sharpener gizmos for a couple of years on my knives, but they just don't work as well as this. Not by a long shot. This double-sided stone, a dab of honing (or mineral, or olive) oil, and a little elbow grease will get those knives right back in the game. What a pleasure to once more have knives that cut effortlessly and quickly! I'll never use anything else again.

Works great. Bought to sharpen my kitchen blades. Came chipped on one corner, but it was not a big chip and did not bother me that much.

Good stone with one coarse side and a finer grit side for finishing. I used it with both oil and water—not sure if thIs how it’s supposed to be used. Anyway, wife says the kitchen knives are all sharper. I also used it on my Fisker scissors. Did a great job.

Bora stone is a very good stone. It is kind of small, but it is exactly what I need. On attached picture Bora stone is shown on top of DMT 10"x4" diamond stone for size comparison. I use it with blue AngleGuide to keep stable sharpening angle. Stable angle is very important in sharpening. My knives all are scary sharp. 10° to 20° Angle Guides Set for Sharpening Knife on Stone - Blue AngleGuide

my dad gave me one 30 years ago. This is the first time I needed to replace it. Don't waste your money on any other knife sharpener. This one does it all.

Pretty simple aluminum oxide sharpening stone. Below are the "Care & Use Instructions" directly from the back of the box (which I couldn't find anywhere on this Amazon listing). Hope someone finds it useful for deciding on a purchase: "This stone uses oil as a lubricant. Immerse the stone for 1 minute to fill it and apply oil on the surface occasionally during use to flush away abraded material. The 150 grit dark side is used for basic sharpening, removing nicks, etc. The 280 grit light side is used for final honing or touchups. Use the full stone surface when sharpening."
