6/9/18 - I haven’t tried the scanner yet, so will possibly edit this. The scanner itself has a nice balance and feel, it it DOESN'T come with the optional stand as mentioned in the description. 6/11/18 Update: this scanner is my new best friend. I am doing library inventory, and I have it set on continuous scan, and it scans as fast as I can flip a book. I didn't need the stand anyway. It has a solid feel, is pretty sturdy, has a good scan angle, and was easy to set up.

I am a member of our county electoral board -- a rural Virginia county. We use laptops with our pollbook installed to check in voters. That is, the laptop contains a database with search capability to lists all our registered voters. At each election, we have a small problem -- 4,5,6, 7 voters out of 4,500 -- with the wrong voter being checked in as a result of poll worker error. Most of our poll workers are older folks, not comfortable with computers. We ordered these scanners because, according to the software vendor, could simply plug it into the laptop and scan a voter's driver's license or voter ID card and the database will look up the voter, thereby eliminating operator error. WORKS PERFECTLY. Plugged in the scanner, no setup, started scanning. Our poll book errors are zero. We have six polls, two laptops per poll, 12 scanners plus two for training and spares. Not a problem and the poll workers love them.

The product did scan all the code I tried, even some products that were still in their plastic bag (very nice, I did not have to unpack them). Scanner seems to perform as well as other name brand (Symbol) scanner I have used. The default setting was automatic scan which for my application was a bit annoying. I was able to fix that by scanning one of the code on the sheets that came with the scanner but there was otherwise no user manual. I wish I could get a user manual to know how to use the RS 232 function...

I bought this as a replacement for an old wireless unit that was not operating properly and for which replacing the battery was difficult. This new scanner worked fine right out of the box. I did not do any adjustments and it put the bar codes and UPC codes directly into my documents or page forms when the trigger was pressed. It was a bit more difficult to get it to read the code but that (distance, angle, etc.) will undoubtedly improve as I get used to it. It doesn't appear to have an on/off switch and since it is drawing power from the PC I will have to get used to the green light all the time until l play with the settings. The stand is not 'optional' as the listing states but is included with every scanner and it does not look like the one pictured but has a metal flexible riser with a flexible hose cover if you chose to use to hide the metal part. The instructions are very minimal so I am glad I didn't have any questions, just plugged the cord into the USB slot on the back of my desktop and I was good to go. I may experiment with changing the sound it makes by scanning one of the many barcodes on the enclosed sheet that is used to change the settings. Don't miss the old wireless scanner because I only use one at my workstation and the cord on the new one is long.

I am an elementary school librarian. Recently my really nice ($200 +) wireless scanner stopped working. While I wait for the replacement I decided to purchase this. It works great for my needs. I just plugged it in and it worked. I don't even need to pull the trigger. I placed it in the stand and just slide the books under it. This is a time and budget saver!

Awesome little barcode scanner. I purchased this to use in a school classroom to teach students vocational skills. After searching online, many of the scanners were priced at $50 and up, even up to $200. I was skeptical at a $20 scanner but I did not want to buy something expensive to be used in a classroom where it could get beat up. I decided to try this one out to see if it could do the job and survive the daily use in a classroom. The scanner arrived quickly and paired easily with my Apple laptop at home, the HP laptop at school, and the HP Chromebooks. Some other reviews mentioned that they had trouble getting their scanners to work with Apple laptops but this was not the case for me. Set up was all plug-and-play. I set up an Excel worksheet to pull barcode information when a barcode was scanned. This worked as planned and really made the vocational lesson that I was teaching come to life. The students enjoy using it and they look forward to the math lessons that get to use the scanner. The scanner stand works well although it sometimes takes a few tries to get the scanner seated properly. Do not forget to keep the barcode card that comes with the scanner. This will help you configure your scanner if you need to make changes. I laminated my card and have it stored away for safe keeping.

As noted in other review, the "instructions" are not helpful. I needed to to ISBN#s but to no avail, had to buy another scanner that would do them. I have thousands of books to catalog so I had no choice but to get another scanner for ISBNs. However, if all you are looking to do us scan bar codes or UPC, this is your scanner. Fast, accurate, great little scanner for that! UPDATE: Totally pleased with this scanner. It is as advertised - PLUG and PLAY. Nothing else to do, just use it. I have 3,000 books to catalog and some only have ISBN bar codes which I couldn't get this one to read (though I think it does do them if you can understand the instructions - I could not!) Be aware if you are looking for something that will scan ISBN #'s, you will have to be specific for that. If you are, then you will get one that you just plug and play for ISBN's too. But be aware, it only scans ISBN #'s IF they are in bar code language. Great buy and I am giving it a real workout. No problems whatsoever.

I'm very satisfied with this scanner. I use it weekly for light to moderate scanning needs and it has been reliable and served the purpose well. It's very easy to use and setup. I basically just plugged it into my laptop and with a few clicks of my mouse it was ready to go. The included holder/stand is very easy assembly also. You simply attach the bottom with one screw. The scanner is super easy to use. It's lightweight for easing holding or you can even just keep it in the stand and place your item underneath and pull the trigger. It has a red light line that shows up on the barcode. The light activates easily for me. You just aim and shoot. It's that easy. No buttons to turn on. It's a basic but good scanner with a good price.

The instruction book that comes with this amazing scanner is like a little "how to" guide for every kind of barcode known to man, worldwide, from UPC to the ubiquitous Code 39 standard. It literally teaches you how to program ANY format bar, if you know a little, simple coding. THIS SCANNER REQUIRES SOFTWARE-- from excel to quickbooks to home inventory, or even a free hosted solution (where you can enter your barcodes on a website) such as upcdatabase dot com. You have your choice of: 1. accepting the factory defaults (which are fine), 2. programming the unit with basic string instructions (basically F1/F2/F3 keys once you enter your command interface or character editor-- you have to know a little basic sdk/ dos/ ide stuff for this-- IOW, the command prompt or text editor, not just a window drag and drop GUI) or 3. Scanning in barcode representations (including creating your own!) that control the settings of the scanner. Very advanced, but a very cool feature if you're into a little coding. THIS DOES NOT support web or smartphone QR codes-- there are plenty of free ios and android apps on Amazon for those! Default output is a number string, so you CAN use it right out of the box with the majority of websites and inventory systems, or even excel. With either bartender or other software, or POS, or free online, you also can create your own "unofficial" inventory upc's to keep your own inventory system. Don't "bite" on websites that claim to assign you "official" upc codes recognizable worldwide. Those are only available from GS1 in the US, come in blocks of 100, and cost $750 to $900 for the first block! On the other hand, you can create your own for internal use free, and they will work fine with this scanner, and most other software. There also are code software programs that work WITH quickbooks and other accounting programs to either use or create upcs-- for example, using those for inventory you buy from other companies, and your own for internally created products. This is a great little scanner, even right out of the box, and I've tried it on XP, Vista, 7 and 8 with no driver problems. If auto scan fails on a bar or two, just rescan with the trigger and you'll do great. Highly recommended.

I was worried this would be too cheap!! Bought this looking for something to scan barcodes for my new business, and this worked out great! One thing I'm not sure about, is that the laser never goes off. It has a little trigger, like that would control it, but it literally does nothing. Not that this matters to me, it actually kind of works better for me that the trigger doesn't work. Hopefully that doesn't change the durability! Pros: Cheap Works Cons: Maybe that little trigger button is supposed to work?
