I learned that you really have to be patient when putting out food to attract new birds to your garden. I'd never even seen a finch in my SoCal neighborhood, so was a little unsure about putting out a feeder full of nyjer seed, but I wanted to at least try. It took about a week or so to attract finches to my yard and wow! Once the chirped word was out, I had flocks of goldfinches and red finches that were all about this stuff. I started out with a 5 lb bag and then had to buy a 20 lb because this food was so LOVED by my new little finch friends. It's also very reasonably priced compared to the grain store. The nyjer seeds are fresh and look a little oily (which is good). The nyjer seeds are tiny, little slivers. Almost like fennel seeds. Would and will buy again! My only regret is that I didn't buy a larger feeder, because the finches go through about two to three cups of the nyjer seed a day.

The seed is fresh and the bag has a handy velcro strip to re-seal after opening. Since nyjer seed is both tiny and slippery this is much appreciated. The only problem came with the packaging. I oprdered 2 bags, so the box was over 20 pounds. At some point it had been dropped and one end was so damaged the bags were almost sliding out. Luckily the tough seed bags weren't punctured, or there would have been a stream of seed from shipping point to my house - probably with a charm of finches following the trucks .. Someone had tried to tape up the box, but it was a mess. .

2/20/19 I am on my 9th bag of Wagner's finch nyjer. I put up my first feeder 1/10. It was found in an hour by the first finch. I have 12 feeders that have 20 perches each (Droll Yankee's DROCJTHM36Y 617407660883 Hanging Tube Bird Feeder, 36 Inch, Beige from Amazon). I have had all perches filled and the air filled with fluttering finches, fighting to get a perch. At the same time I counted 75 finches eating the seed on the ground below the feeders. I am estimating easily another 60 in the air and on the tree limbs surrounding the feeders. I will include links to a couple Dropbox videos later today. One video, with sound, will show all the perches filled. Another taken this morning will show how much the finches ate before 1100 this morning, and them fighting for the remaining perches. Wagner is welcome to use my link or the video for advertising (want to chip in on the nyjer, Wagner?) I plan to take more videos as the males turn more gold and before they migrate north.

My daughter loves to feed the finches, which can be very expensive if you buy the seed at your local store. This bag is usually the best price but sometimes you will find that other sizes are cheaper per pound. Just compare each time is all I am saying. I buy the 5 gallon buckets with lids at home depot to store it in a manageable size. Buy yourself a nice scoop on amazon or at smart and final and you are in business. Note- Lowes buckets are cheaply made and I would avoid. I used one as a step one day and my foot went right through the bottom and gave me quite a scare. As far as feeders, I went through several before I found a nice metal tubular one that works very well. Should still be on Amazon.

This is the best bird seed I’ve found for the Goldfinches I feed here in Washington State. I live in the Pacific Northwest on an island and choose to feed only the goldfinch. Due to a squirrel problem developing and a problem with mosquitos I am unable to provide water which upsets me. However I have noticed that the birds collect the water off the grass and leaves. This seed is of superb quality and our goldfinches go bonkers for it. They like to line up on the fence waiting while I refill the two feeders I provide. They are very beautiful. Thank you for a great quality product without a lot of filler chaff. You get more seed with this brand and not a bunch of non edible chaff or twigs as filler. Some other brands I have four f that the seed is cheapened and lotsa chaff. Not with Wagner’s!!

The finches in my yard are eating me out of house and home. We had a fire in a nearby rural park and I think my little friends were displaced. This seed is no different than the bags from the local big box and mine quit carrying even the small bags. I needed quantity anyway so I went for bulk at the lowest price. It's the best deal around. Just beware that the bag is heavy and a little unwieldy so I loaded part of it in a smaller container.

I personally don't care for the taste, but the birds seem to like it. It attracts small birds, and the jays don't seem to know what the little birds are raving about. Because it's not mixed with the cheap stuff, the birds take longer to go through it (versus pulling out and dropping the cheap stuff to get to the tasty stuff). The seed is shiny, so I imagine it's oily and nutritious. Some birds fly to the feeder for a seed and then back to a branch to crack it open. Others sit on the feeder and eat continuously. Oh, and the squirrels (ubiquitously named Fred) don't get anything out of this. I don't think they can eat it.

This is a really fine quality nyjer seed and it's offered at this really great price. I go through a lot of it since I have tons of gold- and purple-finches. Chickadees and sparrows also love it. I also really appreciate the bag which you don't have to cut open; it has an easy-lock system that you pull open and then re-close by zipping it. Such a great extra feature as is the chart on the back of the bag that shows which birds prefer which type of seeds. For an amateur birder like me, this is really helpful.

Nyjer seed is expensive, bottom line, and that can be discouraging to potential bird feeders. Even more discouraging is ordering an expensive bulk bag and finding 80% dried, brown seed, twigs, small pebbles, and other useless, inedible FILLER. That's happened to me before, so I had braced myself. I was delighted to find nice, healthy, black Nyjer with very little filler of any sort. My birds have been chowing down like crazy, filling both the feed socks from top to bottom and hanging out on the fence nearby when they're forced to take turns. My backyard is a small city of activity! The company asked for feedback regarding freshness (5 stars), value for money (5 stars) and presentation. Okay, the stuff comes in a brown paper bag - a BIG brown paper bag. There's nothing catchy or colorful or exciting on the bag -- and I DON'T CARE! PLEASE don't waste the money making a pretty package - it isn't needed. I buy in bulk from a brand I trust - that's all that matters.

Love finches. Love feeding them. Love this bucket of Nyjer seed to keep them happy and coming back for more. We have colorful blue and yellow finches visit every year. Nyjer seed is what draws them in and keeps them coming back. Yes, they enjoy Black Oil sunflower seed, but they much prefer this. I love that this one came in a bucket and I can refill whenever I buy a bag. Where we live when we went to our local feed store to buy nyjer seed, we were told they didn't have any because there aren't any finches. Boy, were they surprised when we told them that we had them and we needed seed to them. We wound up having to buy on-line.
