I like it
My last sealer had side locks and pressure release and this device locks down and releases with a side dial. I found there is more pressure in this machine application. This machine although different, works great. I like to shop the sales and seal food for the freezer. I have learned how to use my machine to my advantage and saved a lot of money. It really seals food air tight. Any food that will squish in your hand like a piece of bread, would not be suitable for this process. Liquids like gravy or sauces are going to get sucked out before it seals. But, it can be controlled by stopping the full suction and heat-sealing process, manually. There are no instructions on how to do this. I use the heat strip for less time like sealing the edge of a cereal bag to keep it longer and safe for travel. With a little practice using the control knobs this machine does it all. These machines are amazing.

Exceeded My Expectations
I'll admit I was skeptical at first - I wasn't convinced that vacuum-sealing would make any impact in reducing the outrageous quantity of food my family wastes in the deep, dark, forgotten recesses of the freezer. But in just two months of use, it actually has. Granted, much of the savings are attributable to more enthusiastic management of the freezer, but it's working. We are now also purchasing meats, cheeses, poultry, etc. in quantity when they're on sale and also cooking sauces in quantity and sealing in multiple bags. The unit has officially paid for itself in our two months of use. The ability to freeze "pre-leftovers" is convenient and saves money. And the quality of the vacuum sealed foods is practically the same as fresh-prepared. Based on reviews (though mostly of other models), I was concerned about the quality and durability of the sealer, but this unit is well built and performs very consistently. No doubt in my mind that it wouldn't hold up to commercial use, but for family use - weekly and occasionally in-between - I'm confident it will last at least one or two years without problems. Certainly, vacuum pumps are never long-lived and will probably be the demise of the unit, but a unit with a serviceable, commercial grade vacuum pump would cost much, much more and would also require periodic maintenance. This unit is inexpensive enough to justify replacement should it fail. When ordering we also purchased an assortment of rolls along with the two standard sized bags. I wish we had passed on the rolls - we haven't sealed anything yet that didn't easily fit into either the quart or gallon bags, but I suppose if you are sealing excessively long (and narrow) items like full racks of ribs the rolls would be helpful. The bags are far more convenient and not that much more expensive. Here's another trick - when you need an ice pack immediately or for food transport, just seal some cubes in a bag. For some reason, the ice seems to melt much more slowly in a vacuum bag, and you can even reuse it. So, my advice is go ahead and try it. If you're not running a home meat packing business I'll bet it will be a good fit for any average family. Read the instructions - an hour of pre-freezing before sealing prevents the vacuum from sucking out juices and is essential when packing sauces and liquids. Doing this I have not even had to clean the sump tray even once. And besides quantity of use, I'm certain aspiration of contents into the vacuum pump is the primary reason the units fail.

If you don't have one, get one.
Even if you only use your kitchen occasionally, this can really save you money and headaches. Although the "official foodsaver bags" are mildly expensive, knockoffs can be had for cheap and they work just as well. The biggest benefit of using this is that, after using it for a while, you'll develop a knack for identifying grocery-store-items packaged in bags that have already been heat-sealed. A good example of this is most bacon - once you pull out a couple strips for breakfast, you can just fold the rest over and re-seal it with the foodsaver. As you know, if you let bacon get exposed to air for a while, it can get funky, but if you seal it after every use, it will stay fresh for much longer. Another great use for this is cheese - by removing all the air in the package, you don't have to worry about mold anymore. The list just goes on and on. If you're "going green", you can find many good uses for it as well. Honestly, purchasing this will pay for itself in the long-run because not as much of your food will go bad. This means less $$ spent on food, and also fewer impromptu trips to the store! Oh, and speaking to the quality concerns some have had here... I never had a single problem with mine, and I used it every day. User error could be present with some of the 1-star reviews as there is a small learning curve to this device. As is often the case with these mass-produced items, the best you can do is buy one and hope you get a good one.

I'll be more than happy. It's easy to use and works great as ...
I had my last FoodSaver for over 13 years. With the old one, the directions did not state that you have to pre-freeze meat, so I never did that and still, it lasted a long, long time. If this one (V2244) lasts as long, I'll be more than happy. It's easy to use and works great as long as the meat is pre-frozen prior to vacuum sealing. On the rare occasions I did not have time and/or freezer space to pre-freeze, I followed the directions and used a strip of paper towel folded over several times. That worked to keep the meat juices from being vacuumed to the top of the bag and hindering a good seal, but when I do that, I do run the sealer over it twice and double-seal just to be safe. Thus far, I'm very pleased. I definitely like the locking mechanism, a feature that my previous FoodSaver did not have. It does make the sealer bit easier to use. I would definitely recommend this to a friend.

Great Product for a reasonable Price
So I have been wanting a FoodSaver for a few years now. But, they always seem so expensive, and it just seemed to complicated when reading about the process. I finally got to the point where I was tired of my meat getting frozen burnt. I love to buy when meat like Rib-eye or Jeannie O Turkey Burger are on sale, I also like to purchase certain items at Sam's club in bulk, especially if they have dropped the price on Shrimp or Turkey Burger. I started wondering about my other foods that were starting to go stale, or fruit and veggies that were starting to go bad. I am a signle person so I do not eat a ton. I am also on a specific diet so when I find these deals on meat and poultry it's a jackpot for me. So, I did the research on the different models. While, I'm sure I would have loved the convince of a more expensive FoodSaver where the vacuum seal bags are in the machine, and other feature's. Realistically after researching the model that were lower price. I was fine with not having a fancier model. I purchased the FoodSaver V2244 model at the beginning of July 2017 off Amazon. I also purchased the warranty, just in case something does happen I will be covered. I got the FoodSaver within 2 days. I began using it right away to freeze a ton of meat I had just bought on sale. The FoodSaver is pretty simple to use. I did read the instructions first. I quickly learning how to cut the bags, and seal them just the right way in order to have extra room. (I left enough room with each bag, so that as I thaw them out, I can sterilize the bags and reuse them to freeze more meat.) I have not had any issues with this machine. But, the true test will be this weekend. I will be traveling across country, and plan to take food on the road. I plan on sealing sandwiches, veggies, and snacks. (My plan is to update my review after my road trip to see how the fresh foods and snacks held up on vacation.) But, from my use so far I would give it 5 stars. It is simple to use. It shuts off automatically when the cycle is complete. The food in the freeze is not frozen burnt. It is easy to clean up the removable tray, and store the unit. It doesn't take up very much space at all.

Works well, affordable, but I still prefer my old Foodsaver V2840.
Foodsaver V2244. Works well, good vacuum, small and affordable. I bought it to replace my Foodsaver 2840 that started getting slow to create a vacuum. But I found out the 2244 had neither roll cutter nor the roll storage inside the more compact design. Darn. I liked the roll cutter and internal storage. Apparently only the much more expensive models have those features and they seemed bigger than my ailing 2840. It turns out that all my 2840 needed was a new set of rubber gaskets costing $6.99 on Amazon from Darwin Design, " Foodsaver upper and lower gasket assembly replacements".. Took out the old gaskets, cleaned out any rubber debris from the old gaskets slots, replaced with new gaskets , no tools needed, a 4 minute job and it works like new again. I should have done that first. If the pump makes the usual sounds but slow to pull a good vacuum, then replace the gaskets. The old gaskets didn't look bad, but must have been because replacing them fixed the problem. It didn't take much of a leak to defeat the suction. As an unintentional bonus the gaskets, long oval foam rubber pieces, come with the rubber in the center of the oval cut out but left in place to protect the gasket during shipping. The rubber makes a great anti-skid base for platters or anything else that might go sliding in an earthquake. Yes, California living

Do your research!
I did a lot of research before deciding which FoodSaver would be best for me. I watched You-Tube videos and read the reviews here. The reason I chose this style vs. the most expensive was that it's NOT automatic. The more expensive models cut the roll for you and it wastes a lot of plastic. It takes no time at all to cut the size you need and the plastic isn't cheap! Being an "empty nest" now, I noticed food was ruining due to freezer burn before my husband and I could eat it. I got used to buying in bulk when we had a house full of kids and now I don't want to pay a higher price for a smaller amount of food. I saw many reviews complaining about their FoodSaver not working well. Most of these were the more expensive models. This one is perfect! Now I can continue to buy in bulk and our food wont freezer burn. If you're cooking your meat first (like meatballs), make sure you refrigerate them before packing so the juice won't be pulled out. I do dap off any excess liquid - like on chicken before I seal because it does pull a lot of juice and can keep it from completely sealing. I wiped off the edges and re-sealed just above the first seal and it worked perfectly. Great save! I've used it about 5 times - make sure you let it cool for 20 seconds in between each sealing process - and it will work fine. I've had no problems with it. You can cook your food in the bag, too! Low and slow is the way to go! Heat a pot of water to about 180 degrees, place the frozen food in the water and it will be ready in about 30 minutes. I cooked a 4 oz. piece of frozen salmon and it was delicious! Moist and flaky and I didn't have to use the oven! Let the food rest for about 5 minutes before opening the bag.

Must have for gardeners
I waited all summer to post this review, so here it is: I planted my first garden this last summer and the amount of food it yielded was far more then I could have ever prepared for. I went in search for a way to save some of these goodies. I used mine for squash, zuchinni, chicken breast, bell peppers and more. I had to go out and buy a second small freezer for all the goodies! PROS: Suction works great as well as the sealing labels on the bags allows for you to write in the day/year it was sealed I love the way the bags look and feel, textures on the back of the bags works fast has a drip tray for juices easy and affordable to find the re-fill bags CONS: you have to buy the leak proof bags for things that have moisture in them other wise it wont seal right sometimes you have to re-seal it twice IF doing foods with moisture {however I think this is normal for all systems}

If you don't have a vacuum sealer, get one
If you are like me, I was getting tired of throwing out hundreds of dollars worth of food each year because of freezer burn, or it just went bad. I have been wanting to get a food saver for some time now, so when I saw this one, I had to get it. I should have gotten one of these a long time ago. It is super easy to use. You just feed the open end of a bag into the machine, press the button, and the device starts pumping out the air and sealing the bag tightly. I did about 20lbs of chicken in 30 mins. It would have been quicker, but I was getting a feel for the process. The sealer is small and fits nicely on my kitchen countertop. There is an accessory port on this model which lets you vacuum seal appropriate containers (the hose is included). I was thankful a starter kit and bags are included because I really would not have known the right bag to purchase. I found that this model work with most brands out there. Lastly, I really like the drip tray that is removable and able to get cleaned in the dishwasher. Even though there are fancier sealers out there, if you are looking for something simple to determine how much you will use it, I highly recommend you consider this as an option.

Every Busy Kitchen Needs One
The FoodSaver V2244 is a slim unit and leaves plenty of counter space in the kitchen. Our original FoodSaver lasted 6 years and was a workhorse until it retired itself about a week ago. There is nothing complicated about using a vacuum sealer, its pretty straightforward – simply select the right size bag, (there’s plenty sizes to choose from, pints, quarts, etc.) put the item in the bag, cut the bag down to 3 inches from the top, insert the bag in the unit, and press the button. That’s it. We have had steaks in our freezer for up to a year and when defrosted, they were perfect. We have a busy kitchen and vacuum seal tons of foods from berries, fresh herbs, pre-portioned hamburgers, salmon, chicken, nuts, even our favorite lipstick before it gets discontinued, etc. Cleaning is a no-brainer, the unit requires no more than a dusting or a quick wipe. The vacuum sealer comes with an accessory hose vacuum which seals containers with food and marinates foods quickly. We'd be lost without one!
