Before I bought it I read the reviews. My husband kept having problems with the starters from O'Reilly and Autozone. They got to the point where neither place wanted to warranty them out. So I bought this one for him. He put it on, and the truck cranked right up on the first try. He doesn't need no starting fluid or anything. Great product

This starter replaced what I discovered to be a junkyard replacement on a 2000 Ford 7.3 powerstroke turbo diesel. I checked and cleaned all connections and tested the solenoid first before rendering the diagnosis of a bad starter. I've read that some replacement starters are clocked slightly differently and can cause interference issues with the solenoid mounted on the starter itself - this one was an exact replacement. All connections from both batteries, frame ground, and block ground were checked and cleaned, then insulated with dielectric grease. Batteries are new, replaced two weeks ago. Starter ships with a calibration test sheet, this particular one tested out at 3.6kw which is comparable to the OEM starter. The end result is fantastic. The starter spins the old high compression 7.3 like the newer, smaller displacement 6.0s. No need to wait for the "wait to start" light to go out, just put the key in and crank (if you want to, or are in a hurry). The 17 year old truck starts like a regular gasoline engine now. Bottom line: RECOMMENDED. I'll update later if I encounter any problems while it's in service. ONE YEAR LATER: Warranty is up, starter is doing well, no deterioration in performance. My recommendation is the same as before. This starter is one of the best on the market for the price, and has an excellent reputation among owners of 7.3L diesel Ford trucks. The reputation is well deserved.

Bought as a replacement for my 99.5 f350 powerstroke. Old starter was getting tired and it was time. Swapped out quick and easy as expected. Three bolts just like the factory one. Of course the two power terminals as well that came with new nuts. Debated on swapping with the two hole high performance one that everyone talks about but didnt want to have to grind to fit as some have run in to when doing that swap. Glad I didn't! Cranks that old truck up no problem! Wish I had done it years ago just so I could smile every morning and evening when I hear this thing crank over that old diesel with no problem!

This was an easy uninstall and replacement. Everything was in the same place as on my original. Amazing improvement on starting. I had gone through the usual checks....Alternator OK.....Batteries charged up....so the starter was the next place to go. I believe I was replacing my original since I have owned the truck since new and do not recall another replacement. So 250K miles and 19 years was a pretty good run for my original starter. NOTE: Several reviews indicate which socket sizes to have on hand. I found them to be in error. Did not write down which I ended up using for what. But not the sizes I had originally laid out. ALSO NOTE: to top mounting bolt id difficult to remove. I ended up using a couple of u joints and a couple of extensions and while I held the socket on, my son was able to turn the handle from inside the wheel well. Overall, I am pleased with the results.

I have a 1999 ford f-350 that I bought used with 270,000 miles on it. Shortly after buying it it would struggle a little bit to start up if I let it sit for 2 days. I had to replace the brakes and took me a couple of days to do it so when I went to start my truck up I would only hear a "click" and the battery light stayed lit on my dashboard. After some youtubing I realized it was my starter and thaht it was something I could repair my self. Bought this starter that had good reviews and amazon said would fit my truck. Things could not have worked out better. Took about an hour to change out. You will need @ 12" extension on you ratchet to reach the top bolt and it takes a little patience but not too bad. I went to start my truck and was amazed! It started up like a brand new truck the starter sounds stronger than ever. I don't always give products five stars and it may change if this product does not last but I have nothing bad to say about this purchase.

I love this starter. I always had to wait for the "Wait to start engine" light to go off before I could start engine....and even then it almost always took two to four cranks to get it going. Now, with this starter I simple insert the key into ignition and start it like a gasser. It would start within two seconds. I don't know how long this starter will last me but for now I am all thrilled with it. Update: It has been almost four months since I installed this starter into my 7.3 diesel truck. This morning temperature was 38 degrees. It took three cranks before engine started. I did not have to plug in the engine heater to the house wall plug as I had to do before this starter was installed. It is awesome. Update 9/30/2016 : It has been one year since I installed the starter. It is stll working great.

My 2000 F550 was a hard start even plugged up. I worked, two mechanics worked. Replaced glow plugs, injectors, fuel heater, air intake heater, glow plug relay, batteries and cleaned and tested wiring etc. Mechanic recommended lower viscosity oil for the rail system that powers the injectors. Changed oil repeatedly until it looks like honey. Finally I decided I needed more cranking speed. It took me just 90 minutes to change the starter. Now I starts like a gas engine vehicle. I don't even have to wait for the dash light to go out. Great starter!

I'm very happy to say that every aspect of this item was perfect. It was estimated to arrive at least 6 days after I placed my order, but was here 2 days later, very nicely packed and in perfect shape. I installed the unit today. Comparing the DB unit to the OEM starter, they looked very similar. It fit perfectly on my 95 7.3L Powerstroke, and when I turned the key, I was amazed at how fast it spun my engine. It hasn't cranked that fast in years! My truck had been sitting outside for 3 weeks, but with this starter spinning the engine, it fired up in a second. Included with my starter was a detailed test sheet, complete with a load test graph, that stated this is a 3.6kw rated starter, but that its load rated power was 3.8kw. I highly recommend this starter. Any replacement unit that cranks an old diesel this well is pretty strong. It has a 1-yr warranty, so I would expect any manufacturer problem to manifest itself during that period.

This was a direct fit on my 1997 F-250HD. After weeks of having intermittent starting problems, I narrowed it down for the starter. This particular one was offered at the best price I could find anywhere online or in my local parts store. Installation was very easy (I lived in Texas at the time so no rust to deal with!) and I had the entire job completed in under 30 minutes. When I went to start the truck, the difference in how fast the engine turned over was unbelievable... in the years I owned the truck, it never started as quickly as it did with this starter. I think you can safely buy this part with confidence as its build quality and power are definitely worth the money over anything else you can find online. *** If this review was at all helpful to you, please let me know. After reading the reviews, I decided to purchase this model rather than the high torque version. It took me about an hour and a half to install and WOW, I had no idea how long my original starter had been going bad. This cranks the engine at 4-5 times the speed of the old one and the truck starts better than it has in the six years that I have owned it. The price was good and it shipped relatively fast. Very happy with this purchase.
