Not bad at all.
I ordered this product dubious of it's quality as many people here have called it a piece of junk. Since I was strapped for cash, I decided to bite bite the bullet. Now I'm no audiophile, I just like collecting and listening to records and I can tell you this much: This product does what it's supposed to. I have my turntable ( a Kenwood Kd-291r ) plugged into the pre amp, and then the pre amp into my tape deck, and then into my stereo system. As far as the hiss goes, it's because the pre amp isn't grounded. It needs to be grounded for the hiss to go away. Despite this, the hiss is not nearly as loud as I thought it would be. You can barely hear when the turntable isn't playing anything, and it's completely inaudible when playing a record. For me, I don't even need to ground the thing, but I do have my turntable plugged into a tape deck. I doubt this changes anything, but just keep that in mind. Overall, I recommend this product. Perhaps it isn't the best pre amp in the world, but considering that it's the cheapest on amazon at $13, you really can't go wrong.

Ground wire connection and sound boost!
This was exactly what I needed for an older record player (Project/ONE) with an attached ground wire. I had my receiver turned up to around -43 dbs until I got this preamp. Now that I have this, I was able to turn my music down without sacrificing any quality. The preamp basically gave me the sound I was looked for and brought my old record player up to par with my Sony receiver. Easy, easy setup too. All you have to do is plug in your AV wires from your player (red/white/ground) then with another set of AV wires (I had some Monster wires on hand) I plugged them into my Pyle preamp, and on to my receiver and boom, I'm jamming out to some old records the way it was meant to be heard. Amazing sound, I would recommend this purchase to anyone that is jamming to an older model record player and doesn't have a way to ground their unit properly. Lastly, the other thing that is great is this stays on all day and doesn't get hot to the touch. Great product!

Perfect, inexpensive, and so far very reilable
So far, so very good. Perfect item, no humming [are you guys sure you're connecting your turntable's ground wire to this preamp via the little thumbscrew on it, or even just to the chassis of your amp? Overlooking that step is guaranteed hum] but I'll update this review if that should change. I have Pyle's other mini preamp, the black one that's a few dollars less expensive and the RCAs are at each end instead of on the back, connected to the rig at my office at work and use it daily and it's been perfect and reliable so I hope the same for this one. The grounding thumb-screw on the black one was hard to connect with the bare ground from the turntable as there's no place for the screw to bite into the wire so I had to add a small connector at the end to ensure a good connection, otherwise the bare wire slips out of the thumbscrew if you try that method. On this silver one, the thumbscrew was crazy tight and I needed pliers just to unloosen it and it, too, has a slick screw and surface so nothing to bite into the wire, but that turntable already had an end crimped onto the grounding wire so the thumb screw is holding that securely. I'd buy it again and, with as many turntables as I have, I probably will.

Only good things to say
This is a magic box! This is an attractive little unit...not that it matters since it's connected behind the stereo, anyway. If you need to boost your turntable's signal so it's comparable with your other components, I highly recommend this. The installation took only about five minutes. At a price of $20 (including shipping), you simply can't go wrong. Any additional noise is the result of amplifying the snap, crackle, and pop of your vinyl records. I can't detect any hiss or hum from the unit, itself.

Perfect solution to a common problem
I love my old vinyl collection, but most modern pro audio mixing boards etc. are missing the RIAA-equalized low voltage phono input. This little guy is economical, but does exactly what it needs to do -- adapt my 1970's moving magnet cartridge phono to my Presonus StudioLive board. Great audio quality, easy to setup. Love it!

Connect your "old" turntable to your new surround sound system! WOW!
If you have an old Phono turntable with a magnetic cartridge, sitting around for 40+ years like I did, and want to play your old vinyl records on on your new surround sound system, here's what you need. Most current amplifiers no longer have preamplified Phono input jacks, which amplifiy the sound coming from the turntable's magnetic cartridge. Without that, if you connect the turntable to an Aux or Tuner input, you'll probably hear almost nothing. EASY FIX! Simply buy this device, connect the turntable cables to the preamp's input and output cables to the Aux input of your amplifier, plug in the small power supply and that's it, you're done! Then play and enjoy your records with the full power and quality of your new system! Install was a snap and now I have my old turntable working and I'm playing all my old LPs from the past. This Pyle pre-amp was also the best priced of all similar items and I already trusted the Pyle brand! Rock On!

Good Price; Good Product
I am totally satisfied with the Pyle-Pro P444 preamp. The price is very reasonable and my application was too bost the input going into my receiver from a turntable. If you can't get volume this is what is needed. A cheep way to overcome the modern amps that don't have a "phono in". Phono in runs the signal thru an internal amp. If your coming in thru "aux" or another input you need a preamp to take the place of it. This gem does it flawlessly. Good buy, good product.

Unbeatable Price-to-Performance
I bought this unit as a temporary placeholder when I lent a spare turntable to a friend whose stereo lacked a phono input. I expected decent sound quality given the source unit (a Thorens with a Shure V-15/III) but this little unit knocked my socks off. It's definitely a keeper. It's surprisingly musical, with an inaudible noise floor. Objectively speaking, it's probably a four star component but it wins top marks for its unbeatable price to performance. The Pyle PP999 is slightly smaller and goes for the same price, but I prefer this one as there's a little LED light that tells you at a glance whether the unit is plugged in.

Easy Fix to Add your Turntable back inot your Entertainment Center
Redesigning my entertainment center I still wanted my turntable to play my vinyl but didn't want all the amps, tuners, etc. I put this preamp between my turntable and my sound bar that has SmartCast and made a perfect pairing. I can still enjoy all my old vinyl and not have all the electronic paraphernalia that was needed with it. The sound is great! There's no hissing even with I pump it up. This is a simple and inexpensive not to mention great sounding way to add your turntable back into your upgraded entertainment setup. Arekay

This is all you need, unless you have golden ears.
Truly, unless you have golden ears and have a lot of extra cash to burn, this is all you need. With my Technics turntable, this sounds just as good as, or better than, using the the phono input in my receiver. (A Phillips 5.1) Do use good cables and be sure to ground this preamp to your record player. I am a little surprised that PYLE use a conventional transformer instead of a switchmode power supply on these. Perhaps to minimize noise? The internals are very conventional using one opamp and the RIAA compensation circuitry in the feedback loop. The circuit board is not SMD, but through-hole, so should you want to try another opamp it is easy to do. I.d recommend soldering in a socket if so.
