This bed is very nice! We love the color and appreciate how firm it is. We took this up to our cabin and the way it's vacuum packed in its box really helped with transport. Once we got there and opened it the mattress began to expand to its final size. We were skeptical of the price and seeing it vacuum shrunk down to a few inches, but it filled in perfect! The cover is very nice and it is a much needed improvement over our lumpy old fiber/foam fill futon mattress that it came with. We don't feel any springs and thought we may need a topper, but it's fine as is! Something to note is the cover is not double sided, but is removable for washing.

I use this mattress on my futon frame in my living room as the only couch in my apartment. The mattress is springy, surprisingly well-made, and comfortable. I haven't used the mattress for sleeping yet, but will update if needed. It feels and looks to be much higher quality than the standard 6 inch mattresses that come with the cheap futon frames in department stores (the ones that are just cotton with that soft layer that just flattens over time), so I found this to be a really good investment. I would like to note that if you have a futon frame with handles to hold the mattress in, this mattress will not fit to the handles and the handles will need to be removed because the mattress is a bit larger than the cheaper mattresses, perhaps. This was not a problem for me at all because I could unscrew mine and remove them. There is no slipping of the mattress despite the lack of handles to hold it on the frame. Some people have complained about the smell of the mattress, which is initially a rather strong chemical smell when you open the plastic, but I found that 24 hours after opening the mattress, the smell was no longer noticeable at all. It sounds like the people most bothered by a continued smell might be super-sensitive to smells in general. The micro-suede makes my futon look just a shade classier than the cheaper cotton futon mattresses, which is also appealing. Overall, a good buy and worth the money.

I needed a mattress for a new futon, so I ordered this one because it looked nice and wasn't too expensive. It arrived vacuum-packed in a bag, rolled up in a box, with instructions for how to decompress it into a normal mattress. If you've ever purchased a vacuum-packed mattress online before, this is about the same as most I've seen. Mine didn't take very long to expand, though I waited a couple days to use it since some manufacturers recommend that. Unlike some others, I also didn't notice any weird smells from the mattress, but maybe I just gave it enough time to air out. The black color looks very nice, and the mattress is surprisingly comfortable for both sitting and sleeping (I've never slept a whole night there, but it feels good enough for napping). It is a little difficult to convert my futon from "sofa" to "bed" mode with this mattress on, but I have no idea if it's just this mattress (it is a little heavy but it feels MUCH better than my old foam mattress) or my futon frame itself, so I won't hold that against this mattress. I was debating between the 6-in. and 8-in. varieties of this mattress, but I'm perfectly happy with 6 and can't imagine 8 being that much more comfortable, but I *can* imagine it being much heavier and harder to work with. If you don't plan on converting your futon a lot, you have someone to help you with the mattress, and you think the extra 2 inches will add enough comfort to be worth it, it's probably not a bad idea, but I'm happy with the one I got.

This futon has more resilience than other types... it has a cushion-style give to it, rather than just a thick cloth-pad mat. The cover is easy to keep clean... thx.

We use this mattress for my teenage sons futon bed and he loves it. It’s not the easiest to fold into the couch position, but as we use it for his bed mainly we don’t mind. It arrived quickly and was easy to unwrap, just do it in a open area and be sure to have enough room to let it open. We gave it a little while to get to it’s full size. Don’t avoid laying on it right away, this will help the springs fully uncoil. It didn’t have any bad smell, and it we put it on his bed with in about 30 minutes from the time we opened the box. We have had it now for several months and it’s holding up great! I highly recommend this for a spare bedroom or a teenagers room.

I bought this mattress based on two qualifications, it was priced below $150 and it was listed as one of Amazon's top sellers. I really didn't have high hopes for this mattress but it just needed to do the job for a few months until we moved into our house. I must say I am quite impressed with the quality and it is comfortable to sit on. I got the 6 inch mattress simply because I felt the 8 inch was going to be too thick and I am very happy with my choice. The 8 inch would have rendered the armrests unusable. Great product for the price!

I bought this to use on a hand-me-down bunk bed with a futon couch on the bottom. I didn't have high hopes for it, but it didn't matter anyway, as this is not our primary couch, it is only going into my son's room as his own couch and a spare bed when we need it. I was pleasantly surprised , however, because this is very comfortable. I sit on it from time to time, and I am amazed at how nice it feels. I had a futon couch in my college days that cost me more than this one (but still not a whole lot lol), and this one is so much better. I do think you could take the cover off to wash it if you needed. The "button" things are only plastic, and they don't seem essential. They seem like they're the only things holding the cover (which has a built in zipper) in place. I'll either try to pull it over/around those buttons, or cut the buttons off to wash it. It's a nice dark brown, so it shouldn't be high maintenance anyway.

I have this on a futon frame as my living room couch. it is pretty darned comfy, for both sitting and snoozing. Time will tell if the coils hold up, though I will be turning it every few months to spread the stress. As other reviews/answers have mentioned, it is easy to fold along any given row of coils. BTW, the mattress did not have any odd manufacturing/material odors. Also, you do need to give it at least a few hours to fully expand before using it...

This was beyond my wildest dreams as a solution to "what do I do with my futon frame?" Needing to put it in the Living Room as a sofa, but also wanting to be able to use it as a backup bed in case of company! Futon mattresses can be heavy and unwieldy. I just needed something to fit my full size frame, be something I and one other person could move into place, and not be too crap. This mattress fit the bill with room to spare. For the record: "not too crap" means it should not exude chemical smells or otherwise ruin my life for more than a day or three. This mattress did not exude chemical smells, even for a day, to an excessive extent. YMMV, though. It's comfy enough that I'd feel good putting a guest to bed on it, if the guest could deal with the cats. :)

When we moved across country from Washington DC to Arizona (and 6 months later) to Oregon, we had limited space in our Uhaul trailer so we only took the necessary items. For us that meant leaving behind (throwing away) the old futon mattress but keeping the futon couch frame. The frame disassembled takes up much less space. Moving is not fun when you have to do it 3 times in one year, so we downsized - a lot! Enough of the back story.. you want to know what I think about this mattress, right? Having finally settled in our new, small townhouse with significantly less room for furniture and "stuff" than before, we needed a futon mattress for our frame so that we'd have a couch to sit on (and a place for visiting family to sleep, if desired). Of course we're going to order it from Amazon because who wants to deal with transporting it from the store when UPS will deliver it to our doorstep for $10? I went back and forth on the 6-inch or 8-inch then finally decided on the 6-inch, as I thought the 8 inch might be too think and difficult to fold into the couch position. Price-wise they tend to be run about the same cost - the prices tend to fluctuate here on Amazon, so you may want to keep an eye out if you're looking for a bargain. When I purchased this it was about $40 cheaper than the 8-inch, so another reason I went with the 6-inch was price. The futon arrives rolled up inside a long canvas-type bag. Amazing how they get it like that - they must vacuum out the air once it's rolled up. Anyhow, it's not too heavy, either, so easy to get inside from the doorstep - one person could do it. Once you get out of it's bag, it unrolls nicely and easily. We laid it flat on the futon (in "bed" position) overnight, as suggested, but not really sure it needed that. I noticed other reviewers commented about an odor - but our mattress had no odor at all. We got the Chocolate Brown and it's a nice dark shade of brown, pretty much just like the photo. The microfiber cover on it is nice and soft, however we opted to buy an additional cover for it so as not to ruin the microfiber. You can easily change the look of your couch/futon with a nice cover. We got one of these lifestyle brand ones from Amazon that fit perfectly Lifestyle Covers Brown Full Size Futon Cover . Although the covers are made of canvas material and not as soft as the microfiber that comes on the mattress. Is the mattress comfortable? I've not slept on it, but have laid on it and sit on it almost every day to read or watch a movie. The added coils in the mattress make it firm enough so it's not too squishy and it's not too hard. I think it's plenty comfortable and don't think I would have any trouble sleeping on it. I don't have any second thoughts about not getting the thicker 8-inch mattress. I will say that it does take two of us to fold the futon back into the couch position, probably just because of the newness of the mattress. If we had the 8-inch it may be more difficult, but I'm sure not impossible. I expect we'll have this mattress for quite a while. It certainly appears to be very good quality. Bottom line - decent price, right size, comfortable, and delivered to the door.
