Beautiful Drum! Very nice quality and size. Exactly what I was expecting from the pictures, if not better. Best price out there for a drum of this quality. good starter drum

Great starter drum. I got it to practice on and just use casually. My boyfriend is Nigerian and he says it is very similar to what they use over seas so I feel like it is authentic. This size is great to sit on a fluffy cushion and be at the right height.

It's a hit in our house!

Bought this for my son, who is going to take an African drumming class. He played around on it for a while, then researched some patterns online, and has been drumming every day since. I don't even ask him to - he just goes and plays and enjoys it. He isn't always grateful for things, but today, he said "Thanks a lot for the drum. I really like it." To me, that says a lot that a 12 year old will take some time and mention the gift days after its purchase. It's a good filler for boring moments, and even though it's so simplistic, it's fun and entertaining. Now I need to buy another for his brother!

A Truly Wonderful Drum.... The BEST I've EVER Owned!

ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL!!! I LOVE THIS DRUM UNEQUIVOCALLY! As a long time free jazz avant-garde jam band percussionist and drummer, I have played many a hand drum, and honestly, This is the BEST sounding djembe I have ever owned. I can't recommend this highly enough. As a longtime naturalist / Sierra Club and Audubon member, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE FACT That this beautifully carved drum is responsibly made from Sustainable (and ethical) wood harvesting practices and is certified as such. Lastly, and Most Importantly, This drum sounds absolutely BEAUTIFUL - straight out of the box! While playing along to some of my absolute favorite percussionists like Adam Rudolph, Go: Organic Orchestra and Cyro Baptista, (all of which are truly brilliant percussionists that I would recommend to ANYONE!); I sound like part of the recording due to the wide range and beautiful warm sounds coming from this Magnificent Drum! If you're looking for a GREAT Djembe, GET THIS DRUM!

But it already sounds great to us

After reading all the reviews on this product, we decided to go for the most popular 10' medium size. It fits my 8-year old very well, works for adult ok, which makes me thinking that 13' one is probably more ideal for adults. I also purchased a MDJB-S Djembe bag, which holds my 10' very well, maybe 12' is also ok since there are still some room left? Sound-wise, as people already discribed, this little 10' djembe sounds rich and loud right out of the box. We haven't try the tunning yet as we are new to this. But it already sounds great to us. We all loved it!

Good size for a 7-year old.

I bought this 10" diameter drum for my 7-year old granddaughter. It's a perfect size for a child sitting on a child-sized chair. She had been using a larger drum, but her feet didn't reach the floor to grip the base of the drum, and her drum fell a lot. Once tuned, this drum has great sound. Meinl is a good brand. Even their cheaper drums are good quality.

A great buy and fun to play!

This Djenbe is as advertised, medium in size but it is big on sound. It plays with solid resonant sound and built solidly. I expect that it will last many years. If you are not familiar with the rope tuning you may need to spend some time on youtube to figure out how to adjust the tone, but mine came ready to play. The 10 inch head provides a good area to play while balancing a more petit instrument which make for easy travel. This Djembe is a great buy fun to play. Highly recommended!

Super satisfied customer.

Couldn't be happier with this djembe. Was a liiiiiittle scared, u know, buying a musical instrument online.. can't hear it, pictures are cool, but.. so anyway, ordered it, came in time, and tried it: absolutely GREAT sound, great item, very strongly built, not a cheap stuff, I mean.. I just couldn't be more satisfied. Need to mention all the "stuffs" coming with it, booklets, how to tune, how to play, etc etc, guys.. thank you VERY much, I will definitely come back for the next purchase. IF I may make a suggestion..?? perhaps could u include, in the description, a brief video-clip, so potential buyers could actually see, and hear, the product..?? I know it might be a lot of work, but... it might make a difference..??? in any events.. thanks again, sincerely.

This Djembe rocks! Has excellent sound!!

I like the sound of the Djembe, it has a bongo like sound to it. The outside of the Djembe makes it easier to hold while playing it. The Djembe has lots of different sounds that can be played on it.

Even *BETTER* than expected!

HOLY COW!!! Even better than expected!! I'm beyond thrilled! I purchased this to use in drum circles, and for working with my clients (I'm a Master of Social Work student and really big on music and drumming as a form of stress reduction) and this is even better than pictured. The sound is rich, it's a great size, a great weight, and just absolutely beautiful quality (from design to production). I had originally hesitated and gone back and forth over a few different models before finally saying "I won't know until I try, hope this one's okay" and - honestly - it's better than okay, it's great!! I'm definitely looking forward to using it this weekend at a retreat :-) 5 out of 5 stars, 10 out of 10, whatever: totally will buy from them again (possibly one or two more of these drums too so I can keep them around the office), and definitely want to get some other of their instruments. Seriously in love, Meinl you just made a life-long customer.
