My experience has been that most of the 12 hour Cyalume products do exactly what they are advertised to do. I have used them for night SCUBA diving, cave and cavern exploration to include underwater, and in hazardous atmospheres as a primary light (non-flammable) and they produce light with almost no heat. Easy to initiate after removing the wrapper by simply cracking the vial inside the large vial and shaking. Disposal is also easy as the chemical reaction eventually dissipates and and all that has to be done is throw them in the garbage. Keep in mind that there is no "ON/OFF" switch. Once activated they will run their course to depletion. Cyalume SnapLight Yellow Glow Sticks - 6 Inch Industrial Grade, Ultra Bright Light Sticks with 12 Hour Duration (Pack of 10)

After driving & coming around a mountain curve one night and almost running down a man in the dark road by the edge of a cliff who was desperately trying to direct traffic around a stalled vehicle to avoid a multiple car pile-up, I feared for his safety & wished I had something like this in my glove box that I could just hand over to him & help him to be more visible for his own safety. I know my husband is the type of person to also do something selfless like this to help others despite his own personal safety risk, so I quickly got online & purchased these. Now we have them in all our vehicles, along with reflective wrist-wraps & shoulder-to-waist banners (like the school crossing guards tend to use). I threw in some emergency thermal mylar blankets for good measure, because they fold up tiny & thin (just a few inches) & can go in the glove box. Now I just need to get some of those flares that work similar to sparklers that you can just toss onto the road to alert people's attention to an emergency, and we should be better ready to help out next time. That was a really scary moment that could have ended very badly.

Received these the other day to add into my hiking pack and decided to test one out first. First off, the package arrived intact and dry. No leaks from any of the sticks and they were all intact (not pre-snapped). I cracked a good stick at 6:30pm and shook the scrap out of it. It lit up like, well, a glow stick. If you're expecting to light your house up with one of these you're probably going to be upset, unless you live in a tiny house, then it might. Anyway, went to bed and woke up at 5am for work. The glow stick was still glowing bright without any real difference in brightness. I go to work and get back around 6:15pm and the stick was noticeably dimmer, but still glowing at a pretty good clip. Fast forward to the next morning, the glow stick is still glowing a dull yellow. It wouldn't light up much of anything, but in a dark search and rescue situation, someone might notice it. Overall, I'm incredibly happy with this product, worked like it said and then some. The casing is pretty sturdy. It glows a bit brighter than a candle without the worry of burning your tent down and lasts well past the 12 hours the package claimed.

After receiving these, I did pop one open and lit it up, and was impressed with the brightness and the time it stayed lit (approx. 11 hours) although it was noticeably dimmer after about 6 hours. I put a large portion of these in my car emergency kit and have the rest sitting in strategic areas around the house in case of power outage. For the price, I think these are great emergency lights and would recommend.

We just got the 10 pack of the yellow lights yesterday and they are great. We bought them mostly for Halloween and for possible use while camping but of course our four year old and I had to try one out (maybe I get to be the four year old too). It activated easily and lit up to full brightness seriously within 1-2 seconds! My son has had other cheap light up sticks or necklaces and they take forever to glow. The Cyalume was nearly instant and very bright. We activated it at 7pm last night and it was still extremely bright when I checked on him in bed around 10pm. At 5:55am this morning he came running into our room, waving around his glowing stick, and wanted to say "good morning." It was much more faint by that point, but when I left for work at 7:30am this morning it still had enough glow left that if you were in the dark it would have been more than enough to act as a visible marker (probably not enough light to read by though).

These are top of the line light sticks. I used cases of the military version in the Army and these are the same thing made by the same company just the civilian version. The civilian version (SnapLight) is better then the military version (ChemLight) as the civilian version has all the latest composition and chemistry updates allowing for more brightness and shelf life longevity (5 year as compared to 4 for the ChemLights). This is because ChemLights are required to meet a DoD standard that locks them in to an older chemistry configuration. I keep them in my camping and emergency kits. Took these on a African Safari where I lived in tents for 2 weeks. I would light one each night at dark and they gave the tent a mice warm glow with just enough light so I could get around any time of night, still burning bright in the morning and still a slight glow 24 hrs later. They made the stay in the tent more convertible and they did not attract bugs.

I always keep Cyalume snap light sticks in the house for power outages and sleepovers. We've had every color, but we like these yellow ones the best. The white ones are our second choice, but their light doesn't last as long. The yellow ones last up to 12 hours and we haven't had any "duds" in the pack. We bought some of the cheap ones at Walmart once, and half of them had either been snapped at the store, or they were duds. Since you won't know if they work until you snap them yourselves, it pays to avoid buying them from stores where people can handle them. These snap sticks help take the scary out of the dark - I give them to our kids when they have friends sleeping over, or when they sleep out in the yard in the tent, to save on flashlight batteries. Because they're sealed and basically unbreakable, and they don't get hot, they are safe for kids to use unsupervised. From a power outage standpoint, they're safer than a candle or a lantern for getting around a dark house. We give one to each kid when the power is out, and it helps them feel secure and able to sleep in their own beds. An added bonus is the hole at the end, which allows the user to attach a lanyard and free up their hands.

I purchased these in 2012. And kept them attached to the outside of my med kit. The med kit is in my car and has been since 2012. In Los Angeles with heat going easily into the 90 degrees F in a car. The light expired in April of 2016. Last year exactly. I openeone up and cracked it. Still works! 5 years in a hot temperature climate in my trunk. It was not inside my bag, it was attached outside of it, getting all the temperature fluctuations. The dark picture was 15 minutes after cracking it. It didnt light up the room but it will help you find the light switch if you hold it 1 1/2 ft or .4572 Meters. It did well for surving hot car temperatures for 5 years and 1 year past its expired date. Im getting more.

I buy these for power outages and for the kids to use at Halloween. We have tried the green ones and the yellow. Yellow seems to give the brightest light. These usually last all night and into the next day before they loose their glow. I have purchased these multiple times now and have not been disappointed. I also like the fact that each individual stick is wrapped in its own sealed package.
