Marvelous little machine
I've cooked rice for many years. It's fairly simple after you've done it a few times, so I didn't think I needed a device like this; however, it does better than I can. It's so easy: just put in 2 cups of water and 1 cup of rice, press the "on" button and when it pops up and changes to "warm," the rice is ready. I've used it with plain brown rice and rice mixes that contain "Rice and beans" or "Yellow rice" and it works the same, resulting in perfectly done rice. You do have to watch it, because after it finishes cooking, it continues to heat, and will burn the rice if left unattended. The rice will also stick if you don't remove it promptly, and I occasionally disagree with the timing and turn it off a minute or so before it actually pops up. Still, regardless of how well you think you can cook rice on your own, this will do better--in almost all cases--though a helping hand and a watchful eye is still necessary, as with any cooking.

Great investment
My rice cooks so awesome in just 25 min. I don't have to worry it overcooks because it turns off automatically when its ready and switches to keeping rice warm. I cooked my best Brussel sprouts yesterday using the steaming feature. It's awesome! I also successfully cooked green lentils, quinoa, buckwheat and millet. With beans I had to refill my pot with water twice to have it cooked right. It cooked for ~1 hour but tasted delicious. I will pre-soak the beans next time. It worked out well for the lentils too. This device is easy to clean and to store. It's completely silent and 100% reliable. Very pleased!

Superbly made, inner pot is perfect for other cooker too
I chose this product in large part because of the low price, so I was pleasantly surprised by its high-quality metal construction and great looks. I had a very old National rice cooker of the same size that I really liked, and National is now part of Panasonic. But the Panasonic cooker is more expensive than this Aroma, so I chose the Aroma. The reason I wanted to replace the National is only because of the inner pot, which developed a small hole (probably because of soaking in the sink with rice stuck to it -- uncovered aluminum is very susceptible to corrosion). Because I liked the National so much, I was hoping that the replacement cooker's pot would fit the National. It fits perfect!! So I don't have to toss the National but instead have it as a backup, and now I am enjoying this lovely Aroma cooker. I really love that it comes with a nice steamer, which is another reason that I chose this model. Since the inner pot size and shape is so similar to that of the old National, I'm also thinking this will make it easier to replace the pot in the future, as it appears to be a common size/shape. Hopefully they will become available separately, so that we don't produce unnecessary electronics waste when only the inner pot has deteriorated. If anyone knows sources for spare or replacement pots for this item, please leave a comment for this post.

Big improvement from smaller cookers
If you're coming from a smaller cooker with a snap lid, you'll appreciate this design so much more. Not only do you have a larger capacity, but because the glass lid or steam tray sits on top of the bowl, if you boil over it won't get inside the cooker and burn the heating element, nor spill out the bottom. And the steam tray itself is a great way to add a little more capacity to whatever you're doing. The glass lid rests easily on either container. Be careful of the rim of the bowl as it sticks over a little bit. The spoon it comes with is really only useful for rice (it's more of a turner than a spoon) but any other plastic or wooden utensil will substitute fine.

Great little cooker!
I've used this several times since purchasing, and really like it. The rice comes out much better than the old covered pot method I used to use to make rice. As far as quantity of rice, the machine is on the smaller side so it's great for a single person or a small family. I haven't tried steaming veggies or meat in it yet, but will eventually. It cleans up very easily and is easy to use. Just be aware that it comes with it's own cup that doesn't equal eight ounces (it's not a standard measuring cup) - so always use the provided cup when measuring out rice and water as per the instructions.

Don't blame the product when you use it wrong. lol.
I hesitated to get this because I saw some reviews about how this "ruins walls" and "burns/ruins rice"... it's a steamer. it makes steam. keep that in mind when you have it cooking and don't place it close to the wall/under shelves in the kitchen and just set a timer, and unplug it when the time is up and you won't have any problems. Seriously no reason not to get this. it's perfect for 1-2 people. Steams veggies perfect, and I've steamed whole (butterflied) chicken breasts and it cooks it great. Great buy and def worth it.

Great for smaller spaces/needs
We are back to being just the 2 of us. I never purchased a rice cooker before, as they all were WAY too large for my purposes/storage in my kitchen. This lil pot is PERFECT. I read all the reviews, and was sure to set a timer for 18 minutes, to see how long the cycle took. When the switch flipped to "keep warm" I promptly unplugged it. Just the slightest brown on the bottom, hubby loved that. For the price, UNbeatable. Read the other reviews ["keep warm" is too warm, ect] and then buy this rice cooker :-)

The little rice cooker that could!
I absolutely love this rice cooker. First and foremost, I received this same rice cooker in red as a Christmas gift from my mother last year. However, I felt daunted by it after one use (where I didn't properly read the manual and used far too little water) and it sat in my cupboard, unused, for quite a while until my boyfriend threw it out by accident as he thought it did not work. On a quest to 1) make healthier dinner choices and 2) find a use for the vegetables that I use for my work lunches before they spoil, I decided to come back to the original rice cooker that I didn't bother tackling before. This time, I chose a different color because white was less expensive than any other color -- which is always great to remember to double-check when you're purchasing on Amazon. At $17, compared to what they sell for in local stores (roughly around $23 at time of writing this), I felt like it was a good deal. For the beginner to rice cookers, you should always remember that you should take every opportunity to "spice things up a bit" -- that is, go wild with your spices that you add to your water! While it may be silly, I didn't even really think about this -- I had this vision of "vegetables and white rice" in my mind when I saw my rice cooker before. Not true! You can change the spices up so many ways to have very different tasting dishes. You can also add a chicken bouillon cube for extra flavor -- just make sure to stir your rice very well after you've finished cooking! In regards to steaming vegetables, I often throw an array of vegetables together -- leftover onion, asparagus, cabbage, etc. I also use frozen vegetables. Yes, frozen! I rinse them with hot water under the faucet in a strainer, drain, and transfer to my steaming plate. I've found that they taste just fine in a hurry and, quite honestly, it's a great way to save on grocery costs, too. I would suggest trying it out! I personally like to salt and pepper my vegetables before I put the lid on top, since it will fall down into the rice during the steaming process. Always remember to line the hands up with your rice cooker and steamer, since it helps ensure no "loose" spots where steam can escape. I always add my vegetables a little over halfway through the cooking process -- I've found that the directions that Aroma provided (while quite awesome and I reference them frequently for cooking times -- a really great instructional pamphlet!) to be a little too long to steam vegetables. Trial and error. You will find your preference. I've haven't tried to steam meat yet -- that may be an adventure down the road... In regards to cooking brown rice, remember that brown rice has a different texture than white rice if you've never had it before. It's a tiny bit chewier. The directions in Aroma's pamphlet that reference the water lines ONLY refer to white rice -- but they have included directions for brown rice. I always use the provided measuring cup to measure -- never continental measuring cups because I've always figured that they've done all the work for me in figuring out what is most suitable. I usually do have to cook it more on the longer end of the spectrum when it references times in the booklet. Basically -- if you're thinking about getting a rice cooker, I would recommend this one! It's not too advanced and it's fun to play around with, particularly for a person who lives alone or in a relationship. I think you may need a larger rice cooker if you're looking for something for a larger family. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! I look forward to trying to make non-rice items, too, like soups... :)

DON'T HESITATE
I had been searching for a food steamer.. I am not a good cook at all, I've just never been someone who is a natural in the kitchen so I wanted something simple that everything could be done at the same time and I was looking for more healthy options as well. Holy. Crap. I am obsessed, this steamer makes me feel like I'm a chef at a five star restaurant.. A bit of a stretch but I bought this more than two months ago and I use it at least 3-4 times a week. The price, I couldn't beat it!! I make rice in the bottom and I steam chicken, salmon, broccoli, asparagus, green beans, corn, Brussel sprouts and really anything. My only regret is not buying this sooner, I feel like such an amazing cook. If I ever get a boyfriend I will hopefully blow him away with my very simple yet extravagantly simple cooking! Hahahah I wish they had a bigger size because I love this size for just me but it would be AMAZING to have a bigger size to make food for parties and meal prepping :) I'm so happy, truly my favorite amazon purchase that I've got so much use out of.

Awesome Little Rice Cooker!!!
I was so excited after reading the instructions for this rice cooker by Aroma, who makes an amazing variety of different cookers, that this one actually calls for different amounts of water depending on whether you are cooking white or brown rice. Hello, don't the rest of the manufactures get that there really is a difference? Brown rice requires more liquid to cook properly. Do yourself a huge favor and be sure to follow the directions and rinse the rice thoroughly. I cannot emphasize this particular instruction enough, because it really does make a difference and not only prevents spill over of liquid but also keeps the rice from burning or sticking to the bottom of the cooking vessel. Another huge hint is to add a teaspoon of cooking oil per two measured cups of dry rice. I use safflower oil, because it doesn't affect the flavor of the rice, plus it's the same oil I use in the wok. This is indeed a small little cooker, good for only one or two people, especially if you are cooking brown rice where the maximum amount of uncooked rice is 2 cups, resulting in 4 cups cooked. Since we are now empty-nesters, this is perfect my husband and me. I made 2 cups of brown rice in about 40 minutes last night and 4 cups of brown rice in 45 minutes today. Both batches of rice came out perfect! Then I let the unit cool off completely and made 4 more cups of rice and steamed frozen haricot vert during the last 10 minutes of cook time. OMG(osh!) When we order in Thai or Chinese food, we will never have a need to order rice again. This little wonder cooks it up in the time it takes for delivery. Update 12/23/16: so still very much in love with this little rice cooker! I think this has been the best, bar none, appliance I have purchased in a while. This little wonder just cooks it's little heart out! It makes perfect rise every time. Again, the real key is to rinse the rice. Update 09/12/17: Still awesome!!!
