Bought these to build my own air cleaner using 2 filter and a box fan. Add a little tape and cardboard, and breathe cleaner air.

I have been shopping for a MERV 11 or 12 or better filter for my air conditioning unit on Amazon, and narrowed it down to two competitive products: 1) 3M Filtrete Micro Allergen Reduction Filters, 20x25x1 1000 MPR, 6-pack, $70.49 2) Nordic Pure 20x25x1 AC Furnace Air Filters MERV 12, Box of 6 (This product), $58.20 In order to compare these products, I collected the following info for myself and for others that read my reviews: MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. It is a number from a test method designed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). The number is intended to help people compare filters. Generally speaking, a higher MERV rating indicates better filter performance. Filters with a merv rating of 9 to 12 are used in commercial and industrial applications and will stop particles in the 1 to 3 micron range. These filters are a great choice for home owners who want the best dust control possible. 1000 MPR is equivalent to MERV 11. 1000 MPR Performance Rating captures: 1) Airborne micro particles, including smoke. 2) Airborne allergens, including pollen, pet dander, mold and bacteria. 3) Large particles like dust and lint. MERV 12 is a better rating than 1000 MPR. It captures: 1) Legionella, 2) Humidifier Dust, 3) Smoke, 4) Copier Toner, 5) Rigid Cell Filters, 6) Face Powder, 7) Paint Pigments, 8) Insecticide Dust Pleated Air Filters Are Among The Top Performers In The Heating, Ventilation And Air Conditioning industry. Electrostatic furnace filters are becoming very popular with home owners who want to achieve better air quality in their homes. These air filters are designed to replace any type of panel filter or frame type air filter you currently use in your heating and air conditioning equipment. Nordic Pure manufactures pleated air filters with MERV 12 and MERV 13 ratings which means it is over 97 percent efficient. This is a very high rating for pleated filters. They are able to attain this very high rating by incorporating electrostatic characteristics in the pleated design. Another factor that makes their filters appealing is they don't support the growth of bacteria, fungi or mold and they capture 97.8% of the microscopic airborne dust, pollen, allergens, mold spores, pet dander, bacteria and particulates carrying bacteria and viruses in the air. On top of that, if you compare the prices, this product is a winner. After installation I feel my indoor air is fresher, and air quality is better. Also seemed like the AC unit didn't have to run as long before it stopped. This is to compare my memory of the old and probably semi-clogged filters. I am happy with this product. No regret. I am planning to replace it every 6 months.

Best filter we've ever used. We've tried Factory Direct Filters .com 's highest filtration filters, every variation of Filtrete filters, reusable filters, etc., and have never gotten more than a month's use out of one. Even if I vacuum them weekly, something builds up that begins to give us headaches. We have literally changed high-end ($20 a piece) filters every three or four weeks for ten years until finding these. These filters actually lasted three months. I vacuumed them once a month to get any built up cat and dog hair off of them, and honestly probably could have vacuumed them at the end of three months and used them for a fourth. We have a paper mill just down wind of us, which makes some amazing smells every few days that always find their way inside the house. While we had these filters we never smelled the methanethiol once. The carbon worked that long. Also, one of our units was prone to the evaporator coil freezing if it ran for more than about 45 minutes. With this filter, it didn't. Through some kind of engineering genius, these filter better AND flow better.

These air filters are replacing an ineffective re-usable washable air filter that didn't seem to be stopping anything. The reasons I purchased Nordic Pure over 3M Filtrete were: 1. Cost: Nordic filters are much more affordable 2. Size: It actually worked out for me that the Nordic filters ran a little smaller than the listed nominal size. I really appreciate how they listed the actual size in the product description. The actual size measurement was pretty accurate and fit my Carrier furnace very snug. These seem to be well constructed, quality air filters Will check in a month to see the amount of visible dirt the filter is able to trap. The MERV rating is only listed once on the shipping box and not on the indivual air filters. This is fine since I trust the company. Decided on MERV 8 since it stops most allergens without being too restrictive on air flow. As always, Amazon provided prompt and on-time delivery.

We live in the city and like to have our windows open when the weather permits. We also have two whole house Quiet Cool fans that actively draw the air in. We keep the HVAC fan in the ON position rather than AUTO most of the year. I change these filters on the 1st of the month and it is apparent that they work well as they are grey after a months use. We have been using these for about 10 years now. I am very pleased with the performance, workmanship and delivery service by the company. I had researched the best MERV rating for our system without causing problems and these have certainly met our needs. I usually by a year's worth at a time and when I replace the old filter I write the month and year on the new one before it goes in to ensure I can remember if I changed it or not.

I am honestly very pleased with this filter. I've always thought my house smelled "dusty". I would particularly notice it when coming home from work in the winter. After putting in this filter, I could literally tell the difference on the first night and now when I walk in the door after work, the air smells "clean". I should note that I run the fan full time to keep the upstairs and downstairs fairly equalized. I was previously using a Honeywell FPR 7 filter, which is supposedly equivalent to MERV 11, but I don't think it was anywhere near as good. Buying these in a 6 pack is also about 30% cheaper. These are slightly smaller than the Honeywell filters, but I have the type of filter slot where you slide the filter in vertically, and have found them easier to get in and out. They Honeywell filters sometimes snagged and tore when removing them.

I noticed that other reviewers have commented of air flow reduction with this type of filter, some of this is caused by a low power air handler (blower). I installed an new Daikin heat pump system about 9 months ago and have been using these filters. I realize the unit itself is more efficient, however in conjunction with these filters I have experienced a 30% decrease in my electric bill with no abnormal operation of the unit. Seems a good product to me.

My living space is 1200' and I am a light smoker. I noticed no great improvement w/the first filter install. However, it was the 2nd one I put in where I really could sense, smell the air was much clearer, no smoke smell a few hrs. after I "had been bad". The first filter did the hard work, and the ones after do the maintenance. I, also, use a stand alone air filter unit. The combination do a very good job. I'll be re-ordering.

Guys! I've always been one to need the top of the line name brand filters at a higher filter rating. For the price I thought I'd give these a try and I am definitely going to order more when these are used up! I compared them to the name brand one I pulled out of the unit and they are the EXACT same just this one doesn't have the name on it! Don't hesitate to give these a try!!

The construction of these filters is much better than 3M filters, which actually bow when my system is on. They are also much cheaper. Concerning questions whether these are actually Nordic Pure filters, Nordic Pure is actually one of the suppliers in the supplier list. If you're worried about knock-offs, buy it directly from the company. It costs a bit more than other suppliers, but is still a bargain. My guess is they are all "Nordic Pure" filters. Many name brand companies don't actually manufacture their own products, they farm the manufacturing out to companies who can make them cheaper than they can, and they can change manufacturers at any time. The manufacturer may be in the US, or outside the US. The brand name company provides the specifications to the manufacturer, and product advertising, even though they themselves do not manufacture it. My guess is these are all "Nordic Pure" filters. Remember that the changing of filters is based on how dirty they are, which is a function of how dirty the air is, how often the system is on, and the efficiency of the filter. More efficient filters will capture more particles, and therefore will require more frequent changing. Changing the filter every month is typically based on a worse case scenario. In non-typical situations, you may need to change it more frequently. If you're in a season in which your system is not used very often, and your not not having issues with allergies or other problems with indoor air quality pertaining to particulates, you may only need to change the filter every 2 or 3 months, or even longer. Some people change it every month because that is what the company recommends (to the company's benefit), or because it just takes the guess work out of it. Extremely dirty filters can put additional strain on the blower motor and reduce its lifespan.
