Install takes time, but it looks sleak
Needed some additional space for a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. This rack looks great! Flat black paint and comes with everything needed, except the roof bars of course. You need those bought separately. As far as I can tell this is built well and I like the way it goes together. Word of warning, you will need strong fingers to work with the rubber gaskets that go over the tubing. Lay the thing flat, put the 4 gaskets on the tubes and roll them up. Push the two rack pieces together and screw in place. Then roll the gaskets back over everything. Gaskets too the longest for me and it helped to have it leaned up against something for down pressure. Screws are hard to install and seem like self tapping, so don’t expect to take them back out. They stripped pretty easily so don’t go crazy. Only issues I had that the book couldn’t tell me was how to use the pieces that connect the rack to the bars. I put in a picture example. On the rack, plastic spacer goes UNDER the bars of the rack, on top of your roof bar. Metal piece goes on top of bars and over the spacer. Then U-bolt goes underneath. Overall a good buy!

*Updated* Just received it in a partially opened box.
So I just received my rack today, thankfully it showed up before getting rained on since the box was partially opened. Immediately given a 3 star review for now. I see so many reviews on the rust issue and was worried the moisture getting in the box would start the rust process before I even put it together. I will update as I get my rack prepped as like others have completed for this product and many other racks for sale. It’s metal that isn’t painted correctly during fabrication as many of these racks aren’t, so its expected to rust eventually. It’s not just this product with issues. I’m excited to get this installed on my Bimmer once I put some time and money into weather proofing it. For now I removed all stickers since I don’t like them, they were crappy and bubbly so I can put my own quality stickers on. As expected the stickers were crap so I’m happy I removed them. I used lemon essential oil to cut the sticker adhesive through the sticker itself, it works like a charm every time. lemon oil is my grease and adhesive cutter for everything in my home. Well, time to get to work on protecting my investment before it’s used!! Update: 12/2/18 - 5 star update So I am extremely happy with my final results.. First off because this product seemed to rust so quickly, I decided to get mine coated while being put together with a linex truck bed liner spray. IT TURNED OUT AMAZING AND EXTREMELY DURABLE!!! The color just looks awesome along with the texture. Because it was sprayed I had to do allot of modifications to the attachments that hold onto the crossbars on the top of the car. Once this was completed I also installed a bike lock across one of the crossbar attachments for additional security. My rack will last me some years to come and will be useable on the next car I get if necessary. I don’t see any potential in having issues with this rack ever and all holes were sealed off so water penetration will never happen. Take a look at my pictures, I will keep it permanently installed on my cross rails since the whole thing together isn’t very heavy. Thanks!!

Everything fit well, and it looks cool on top of the roof. My only problem came while trying to get the rubber sleeves on properly. Soap helps to get them to slide over the metal, but having slippery soap on your hands makes the process a bit problematic. I got it done in the end though. UPDATE 12/18/17 Shortly after initially installing the cargo basket, I took it off and stored it in the garage for four months. When I took it out and tried to install it again, I noticed that one of the nuts (used to secure the basket to the cross rails) was stripped. That is to say, it wouldn't tighten down more than 1/4" before slipping. Rather than order an expensive replacement kit (part #59506), which includes the two nuts, the pressure bar, the rubber spacer and the top bracket, I decided to spend $0.50 on an M8-1.25 wing nut from Home Depot. That did the trick, and my cargo basket is now secure at all four points. Should the one nut have failed after only being tightened and loosened once? No, especially when the replacement kit was over $8, and shipping was nearly the same. Nevertheless, things look good now.

Looks cool and works great - and all for a small investment!
Per the reviews I read here, I purchased the things people suggested - 2 cans of Rustoleum paint, some rubber friction tape and even rubber grommets for between the wind screen and the rack body (to prevent water from seeping in where the screw and body meet). When the rack arrived, it surprised me how sturdy it was. What REALLY surprised me is that it came with rubber sheaths to cover the seams and holes where I'd read rust was an issue. I also noticed that the exposed metal on the mounting brackets (that I read would rust) was painted already. Maybe someone from Rola went on this site, read the reviews and I was lucky enough to get the next generation version of the rack - complete with fixes. Regardless, I still put 3 coats of Rustoleum on it and used friction tape on the seams beneath the sheathing and put the grommet beneath the windscreen. The rubber sheath was a little tricky to put on, but mainly because it was so tight - a GOOD thing. When I finally mounted it, I was certain it was as close to rustproof as it would ever be. Today, after 3 weeks of varying weather conditions and one long trip to and from Pittsburgh (with several days of rain), I pulled the rack off my truck to evaluate it. There WAS a small amount of rust on one of the brackets, where it looks like it got nicked somehow. Other than that, everything looked sound and rust-free. The precautions seem to be paying off - at least so far. A couple quick notes: - I've had several people comment on how cool this rack looks on the truck - a plus. - It WILL cause additional road noise, but nothing the radio can't drown out. - I highly recommend the Highland carry bag. It fits great on this - with the tie-down straps working great with the bars. It also freed up a ton of room in the cabin and kept everything dry. - getting the ROLA "spider web" Cargo Net is a bit of overkill, but once you figure out how to use it, it adds another layer of security. Final comment: This is a cool looking, effective product and I'd recommend it. Personally, I wish there were more aluminum options, but I'm not unhappy.

best rack for the money
I have researched racks for a month and ended up buying this rack. It is well made and works well. Here are some honest answers for you: #1. yes, you will want to use caulking at the seems to keep it from rusting in the future. I wrapped the caulking with friction tape (rubber) so it looks nice. #2. yes, it make wind noise. its a giant waffle on your roof- what do you expect? How much wind noise? it will double the amount of road noise in your car at 75 mph. #3. Making a bigger wind screen for the front will not help. do not waste your time. take it from me. I speant 2 weekends building different models and nothing worked better than the stock one. #4. Use lock-tight when screwing the knobs down when you are installing to keep them from getting loose. #5. The rack is made so well that I can probably carry more that you roof bars can so don't load the rack up so much that you break your roof bars- take it from me.

Nice setup for the money
5 stars for the price. I used black RTV under all the rubber seam seals and on all bolts. Very nice system for the price. Assembly took way longer than anticipated. Probably 2 hours with the extension piece. The brackets that mount it to the crossbar were hands-free type and I broke two of them on the install. I used my own hardware on ALL of the brackets to tighten it down l, which I probably would have done anyways. Perfect length for an 08 subaru forester with the extension.

Nice Rack!
I purchased this rack because it appeared well made and durable. I also bought the extension section to have more room to get 3 people's gear up there for long hunting trips in my 04 4Runner. The rack fits perfectly on the top, the back hatch door opens with no interference, and the brackets to attach to the cross bars are solid. assembling the rack with extension IS a pain in the backside, but I got through it with only minor cussing in about an hour. Every thing went together pretty good, slight mis-alignment on a couple of the screw holes. I added a 32" curved New Brights LED light bar, and you can see from the pictures, it looks like it was made for the curve of the rack. I installed the light bar with Modify Street brackets made for 1 1/2" tubing and it works great. I'm real happy with the whole package. I can't really say how much wind noise just the rack would produce, but with the light bar installed- you'll need to turn up the radio at highway speeds! But on the other hand, it LIGHTS UP the night.

Ahem! Nice rack! Ahem!
I had received this track today at the earlier than expected. The quality of the rack is very good it is heavy I love the color and the texture there were no scratches at all whatsoever. The only thing that I didn't like was the rubber pieces that connect the two pieces, it was hard to make them fit. I'm a girl and I was able to put it together and install it by myself and I love it. Lets see how it holds up

Great rack if you prep it right
i bought this after reading the reviews on this rack and several others. personally i liked the style of this one better than others but was worried about the rusting that had been noted by many. in an effort to prevent rust on mine i swapped out the mounting hardware for stainless steel bolts, washers and nuts and replaced the U-bolt with a piece of cut stainless steel. i then put the rack together, minus the fairing, and put it on some boxes on my garage floor and sprayed the whole thing with black plastic-dip. three coats on the top and three coats on the bottom, with the correct drying time in between each coat. all in all i used 3-4 cans of plastic-dip on it. i let it dry for 24hrs or more then mounted the fairing and put it on the roof. haven't seen a speck of rust yet but its only been on the truck for about 6 months now. its going to go through some alaska winters so i'm hoping that the plastic-dip method holds up. if i see some rust develop i'll probably just pull it down and plastic-dip the crap out of it again.

Great Looking,Fast Shipping, Perfect Condition
This cargo basket appears to be well made and it looks good on our 2017 Subaru Outback. It arrived in only three days even though we did not pay for expedited shipping. it was packaged well and had no scratches or dents as some have posted. I have decided to have my son weld it together to prevent rust issues so often discussed in reviews. Additionally he is going to paint it with a truck bed liner as the powder coat finish will scratch over time. I will post pictures once the work is completed. After all is said and done it will still be cheaper than the smaller name brand racks and be better quality as well.
