• Harvested along the coastal town of Maldon, England since 1842.
  • Delicate, thin, crisp sea salt flakes.

  • Use sea salt flakes as a finishing salt.

If you like salt (who doesn't?) then this is the go-to salt. Especially if you cook steaks. This is what you find on your steak at the best steak restaurants. It's flaky, and so you can pinch and crush it between your fingers. It holds up, because it doesn't all instantly just melt and dissolve away. I use it on everything, especially steaks. I have tons of gourmet salts, probably 20 different brands and styles from Europe, Hawaii, etc. I use them all, but this is the one I use the most. If you simply use pre-ground pepper, then you probably use Morton's table salt for the table and ketchup on your steaks. (I only use Morton's for cooking/baking) But, if you bother with grinding your pepper fresh at the table, then you probably also grind your salt (e.g. Himalayan Pink Salt, etc.). Ground salts are good, but the salts that are flakey and can be "pinch ground" by your fingers are the best, I find. They have more character and punch, then pre-ground or grind-able salts. You will find some big flakes, medium and small fine dust all mixed in on your food. So, you get a lot more variation with each mouthful, that is subtle but noticeable. Your brain/taste buds eventually tire of repeated similar stimulations of the same type (the first bites is always better than the last). I am sure you noticed this. But, sometimes, you get that "good to the last bite" meal. It's due to some variability in the dish. Keeps your buds guessing and stimulated. Flakey salt does this, as far as the salty side of flavor goes, IMHO.

UPDATE: Has Lasted 13.5 months, we've given 2 or 3 friends "samples" of about a cup each ... we were excited, don't make the same mistake. Just kidding, sharing is caring. We're getting low ..but would probably still last another month or more. Good, clean, crispy. Fun to crunch and salt bae sprinkle onto anything. if you haven't used them, you should give it a try (they have small packs for like $6 but the tub is much better deal)! This was the only Christmas gift I got my husband last year, he's very hard to buy for but this was a hit. It has been thoroughly enjoyed by both of us (and our foodie friends when they come over to cook).

Elevates everything you make! I carry an empty tic-tac container full of Maldon salt to use at restaurants. And I love it on homemade chocolate chip cookies.

Just buy this if you like Maldon. The little boxes are far more expensive by the ounce, and you always run out at the wrong moment. You will laugh when this thing arrives - it's that big, but there is something so satisfying about replenishing one's salt cellars from this. Maldon is our go-to finishing salt. After years of buying fancy fleurs de sel, and other saline esoterica, I ran across the happy pyramids, and fell in love. This is the good stuff, it absolutely sings on summer tomatoes.

Fabulous! We've used this "finishing salt" for years and we all love it. It is not your Mother's Morton Salt. You do not use it in a salt shaker. You do not cook with it. It actually will not come out of a shaker. It's flaky and chunky. It's used in a little bowl where you can reach in for a pinch and sprinkle it lightly (or not!) over your plated food. It does not have a salty or bitter flavor. It's mildly salty, crystal clean and crunchy when you bite into a flake. Very hard to describe, but once you use it you can never go back. Simply lovely. If you want to test it first it's offered here on Amazon in smaller sized packaging. Would I recommend it to a friend? I just did!

Amazing as always. Quality is stellar. Been a Maldon convert for about a year now, great for cooking and finishing. The regular little boxes are lovely but I end up blowing through 'em way too fast, this baby bucket size will be much more cost effective in the long run. The crispy flaky crunch of this salt is so unique and wonderful, a small pinch crushed between fingers to finish the plate really adds something extra to any meal. Manages to take flavors the next level consistently. Current favorite application is a sprinkling over crispy fried pork or chicken cutlets with pepper and a healthy drizzle of lemon juice. The flavor is extremely clean and pure, zero bitterness or off flavors sea salts can sometimes carry. Texture is gorgeous. Well worth the cost, will absolutely buy again.

What's there to say? If you already know you like Maldon salt and you use it regularly the bucket is great for saving a bit of money in the long run and you won't have to fool around with the box. Plus, if your like me you will squeal like a giddy school girl when the package arrives and cackle manically when you open it for the first time. I would like it better if the lid had a tighter seal or if there was a sealable bag in the bucket but I plan to use it daily so I hope it wont loose freshness too quickly. I paired this with the Maldon salt pig and its looking pretty good on my counter.

This has a mild salt flavor with beautifully shaped flakes. I use this primarily as a finishing salt due to cost, but will occasionally use it while cooking (goes in my preparation when cooking steaks sous vide). Works great with all your proteins--I do let it dissolve a bit while the protein rests, but still get the nice crunch--use its wonderful texture to elevate your dishes economically and quickily. Some other reviews mention the packaging being an issue, but I have not yet had any issue with how the product came.

I am thrilled to be able to purchase this flaky, delicious salt in the USA! My UK friends are happy they no longer have to bring it to me in person when they visit. (And with Covid, I can still get it!). The salt, first of all, is my favorite in all the world! I use it with an inexpensive bamboo magnetic-top salt container I bought on Amazon. You slide over the bamboo lid and pinch out what you need. I crumble it as I sprinkle it over food. The only food I don't use on is scrambled eggs bc they cook quickly and it may crunch like shells if it doesn't dissolve. The container is the BEST reason to buy this larger quantity. I've had three or four now and it keeps the salt super dry without added (toxic) desiccant packets or nasty rice. I use a dozen different salts but this is my daily one. It has a great sea salty taste that I believe is far superior to pink salt AND it is sustainable. Yes . . . the Himalayan salt is NOT sustainable and has to be mined!

Not sure how I lived without this previously! Fan for life! This salt is beyond amazing. I have given travel tins to thrilled friends, family & even a waiter at The Resort at Pelican Hill, Newport Coast who took it directly to the head chef. Everyone who tries it immediately wants to know where they can get it. I will be reordering this salt.
