This toilet saved me while camping!!!
This portable toilet really saved me while camping at Jawbone with my son. You know one of those nights after eating all day of camping food...hot dogs, rib eye steak, etc....woke up in the middle of the night...around 2 a.m. I really had to go....and good thing the toilet was in my pop up camper...or I would've never made it out the door. Sat there comfortably for 30 minutes with my Buddy Heater on.... This thing ROCKS! Flushed well and clean up was super easy! Just followed the direction, dumped out at a local out house nearby, Took it home, rinsed out few times and it was ready for our next camping trip! With included orange powder, it did not smell bad at all while using. I would highly recommend to anyone who's looking for a portable toilet. FIVE STARS OUT OF FIVE!

Best Little 'Personal' Portable Restroom!
This is the best thing I could have gotten for our camping trips aside from the tents. My kids made fun of me, 'Oh mom, what's the matter, can't walk to the restrooms at the campsite?'... No, I do not want to walk through the trees in the complete dark to the restrooms. Well, those nay sayers used my "Queen's Throne" as I call it, regularly. All night long too. Especially convenient for the little ones (6 & 7 years old). I filled the top half with clean water upon arrival. On the suggestion of a friend, I dropped one of the little waste dissolving pouches into the bottom with a large cup of water to 'get it started' & not have the 'first use' get stuck to the bottom so-to-speak. There were 2 children & 2 adults who used this on a regular basis Friday night, Saturday when we were at the campsite & night & Sunday morning. It did not need emptying until we left Sunday mid-morning & there was still a good amount of clean water in the top half. There was absolutely no odor at all!! I was very pleasantly surprised & pleased about this! Waste went cleanly down the opening & the 'flusher' rinsed everything all nice & clean. Disassembled, I will say that 5 gallon bottom 'waste' container is very, very heavy (well for me anyway), so my son had to get it into the car so I could take to the dump station. Very easy to empty into the station disposal 'opening' (I VERY STRONGLY suggest having a pair of rubber gloves on hand lol). Not to be gross, but everything was 'dissolved' & there was not that horrendous odor you'd think there would be. Those waste tablets that come with the unit work very well. Take the hose available at the dump station, rinse the bottom part out & done. I bought a small container of sanitizing hand wipes that I kept next to the unit so everyone could 'wash' their hands after use. Going tent camping, pontoon boat for the day, etc. - this is the unit to have for convenient, sanitary, odorless 'personal' restroom convenience. Very, very highly recommend it. We will get a lot of use out of this. Pictures are of the Queen's Throne positioned in my tent & the $1.99 wipes we used.

Camco Portable Toilet Suggestions
So I was a little confused by the numbers referenced in several reviews as of June 2017. Hopefully this will clarify: There are currently 4 different toilets (2 sizes) of the 41541's (2.6 or 5.3 gallon) and (2 sizes) of the 41545's (2.6 or 5.3 gallons). They are listed on Amazon currently as the (Older Product) STANDARD (41541 model) and (Newer Product) PREMIUM (Not "Deluxe") (41545). As far as brands or features, several brands use the same design as the STANDARD Camco with various levels of quality in manufacture. There are some portable toilets that use a bellows, some that use a piston and some that use a battery operated pump. There is more to go wrong when you use inexpensive electric motors (especially over several years) and the bellows can wear out in the edges. Several reviews commented about the weight of the 5.3 gallon when full; however, understand that if you buy the 2.6 gallon, you'll be squatting on the toilet as its only about 12.5" high. The 5.3 gallon is about 16.5" high (so more like a normal toilet). I got the 5.3 and just remember to empty it more frequently... Of course, if you're buying for your child, don't mind squatting or to fit the toilet into a smaller storage space, then get the 2.6 gallon. A quick summary of comments about the use of a portable toilet and cleaning it out. If you use it for either #! or #2 and use toilet paper, it will be harder to empty. Consider doing like in Mexico (where the plumbing isn't very reliable) and put the TP in a basket or trash next to the toilet. If you want less smell, before your first use, put about 1" of water in the bottom (Black water) tank and then add the gel pack or toilet solution. Another good idea is to use a liquid deodorant in the top (Fresh water) tank (not the gel pack as it might clog it) for a fresher bowl smell and cleaning. You'll need a new gel pack or deodorant in the black water tank after about 3 days. If you are going to do #2 & use TP, consider putting a couple of pieces in an X across the bottom of the bowl to help stuff go down clean. Close the lid before you flush. The less TP, in the toilet, the easier it will be to clean out later. Consider RV TP, as it will break down faster. Don't put handi-wipes or feminine products in your toilet.. Use olive oil or similar on the flush seal every so often (not WD40 as it may break down the plastic seal). The main differences are the STANDARD has (reportedly finicky) latches on the sides, a pour OPENING in the back, a square shape, a flush pull on the front and a SINGLE spray rinse nozzle. Camco 41541 Portable Toilet - 5.3 gallon The Premium has a spring loaded latch in the back (which you pull to unlatch and then tip forward to separate), an pour SPOUT that SWIVELS (like the Thetford), a rounded front, a flush pull on the side, and THREE spray rinse nozzles. Camco 41545 Travel Toilet, 5.3 gallon We have two vestibules on our tent. We keep it in the back one. It's been great when you don't want to deal with a cloud of mosquitos at the public restroom or when my wife doesn't want to hike 1/4 mile in the dead of night.

What you really want to know
I bought this toilet to add to my Sprinter van conversion for middle of night emergencies. While on the road I was very pleased to see that it worked efficiently and I waited to write this review until I had battle tested it, including emptying the black tank: - This toilet does NOT smell. I ended up deciding to see what it was like to use it for solid waste (see, that is what you really want to know about). I used it several times in that capacity and after several days I emptied the black water tank. - When I emptied the black water tank I gagged multiple times from the smell (holy sh*t! - literally). Which is a true testament to how well this toilet works, and yes, I put in the chemicals. - Septic friendly (single-ply) toilet paper seems to be the best option, so while it might not be luxurious, it will do better in the system. - Due to the aforementioned gagging I *really* recommend not using this for solid waste unless your olfactory senses are severely compromised and you won't care (or you just like gagging... we all have our things). - Should you need to use this for solid waste, consider emptying it at your earliest convenience. Overall, I couldn't be happier with this purchase and I hope you will be too. PS - every once in a while you see a review about this toilet that says that it leaks, or the seals aren't quite right. Be smart like I was and run water through the system and shake it around to make sure it's water tight. That way you can swap it unused if you get an imperfect one.

I love it. I use in my daycare and it's ...
I love it. I use in my daycare and it's much easier for the children then the regular toilet and more convenient for us then the potty.

It's A Keeper
This is our first travel toilet of this design. We've used the "dig a hole in the forest" and the "5 gallon bucket with a seat" methods, but neither of these fit our needs for a small trailer without a toilet built in. We put about 6,000 miles on the trailer since getting this Camco and have learned how to use it's features - even in the dark. It works, and with the right chemicals, it is odorless. It's a keeper. No more 5 gal. buckets for us. There are a few features I will mention. The lid is held shut and has to be pulled forward before it will open. You have to pull the handle to open the bowel drain before you do your business, but don't look into it while you pull. It can let a fine mist or drops splash upwards. The odorless aspect will only hold true if you keep the bowl clean. A little 409 or other cleaner does a good job, just like home. It has a good water wash in the bowel when you flush, but sometimes not quite enough. It has to set a few inches from the wall or the lids won't stay up. It looks to small, but in actual testing it isn't. All our family behinds fit fine, and there is a large difference in them...pun intended. It is easy to dump, and toilet paper doesn't seam to stick in it. In fact, the chemicals seem to break it up so well there aren't many big gobs of anything. We like the "individual packets" type of chemicals that have a citrus smell. Just toss it in and it works. The full water tank used for flushing is 30 to 40 lbs., just so you know. We emptied it about once a week, and everything went fine. Oh, one last thing, the height, while sitting, is just perfect for people under 6'. Not sure about tall ones.

A Perfect 11.75" Tall Potty for Camping
I just received this today but I am buying it as a replacement so feel comfortable to rate it 5 stars. This exact unit came with our fiberglass popup camper and lasted four seasons. We camp a lot and this potty is my wife's #1 most important feature. We kind of wore out the bellows on the original potty because every time we would store it under a bench seat, we'd bump the bellows against the latching mechanism. Gradually, this wore a small hole in the bellows and while it would still pump enough water, it would also leak a little bit of the water from the top rinse tank onto the floor. I don't think that's a design flaw, just an unintended consequence. And in four seasons, we have camped over 250 days so that's a lot of bumping to take it out every night. I uploaded a photo of my solution to lessen the beating on the bellows. We use it at night (#1 only, and no toilet paper.) and it saves us trips to the woods or vault potty at night. It will last about 8 days for the two of us before needing to be emptied. We often empty it into a vault toilet and figure we are making an improvement in the smell of the vault! At home, we empty it into the toilet, but like another reviewer said, watch out for splashing. I have put a small amount of the blue liquid (Aqua-Kem) into the rinse water tank, for a nice blue flush, but I don't think it makes any difference for smell and I am concerned it might not be good for the bellows pump. We often use a bleach wipe while camping if we think the bowl is a little ripe, that seems to work. It doesn't smell until after 5 nights usually. Another reviewer said when you first use it, it's the best-smelling thing in your camper and I agree. I usually put 2 ounces of Aqua-Kem in just before we leave home. I did have some small problems with leaking from the base. I ended up tightening the cap with a rag wrapped around it for better grip. I would tighten it to the point where I thought I'd need a wrench to get it off at home and that usually stopped the leaking. I also looked for replacement gaskets but could not find anything. I noticed this model has a different gasket setup and so maybe this one won't leak and/or require superhuman strength to tighten. This new cap is also translucent so it looks like it will be a good indicator for how full it is. I also put a little Vaseline on the flush gasket in the bottom of the bowl. I think someone else had recommended that. One time, the gasket got folded a little bit and didn't make a good seal, but that was over a year ago and I was able to straighten it out with a needle-nose pliers and it has worked perfect ever since. One last thing, this unit is 11.75" tall, not 12.5". This is critical for us because it is stored under a bench seat that has exactly 12" of clearance. I kept reading the specs on different sites they all say 12.5". It is not. I ordered it figuring I could return it, but as soon as it came, I put it in the camper and it's a perfect fit.

Heads-Up: CAMCO's 41545 is the Latest and Greatest over model 41541 trust me.
AMAZON LISTEN UP: UPDATE JULY -2016. The more I use this Camco #41545 toilet the more I appreciate the quality and caftsmanship of it. It's well into the 2016 camping year and I have used it many times and afforded it ample opportunity to disappoint me, but I appreciate the the ease of use, no leaks, and so strong construction.. Just updating my experience and evaluation of this Camco product. . The reviews before February. 2016 are for Camco 41541, NOT the just released Camco #41545 as pictured this needs to be corrected. I am 71 a van camper and weakened by Cancer treatments (survivor 10+ yrs) and a couple of open-heart surgery's added a Camco 41541Toilet too my 05 Express Van camper to accommodate my needs. I'm a retired Cop and not a quitter, so as a well satisfied Camco Customer I noticed last year this new design started 41545 appeared on Amazon so I was referred to CAMCO MFG.. last fall. While I am satisfied with the one I had it was all I could handle weight-wise. Upon hearing of the release of the new design 41545 Amazon kindly referred me to E-Trailer in St. Louis and in a couple of days was on my door step. These folks are good and quick and a super buying experience . Enough of the BS on to toilet talk. Here goes this is a much improved unit and is much stronger then the Thedford Curve that just feels flimsy. Most important the bowl is shaped better and much deeper and keeps the family-jewels safe and clean (thanks) also the flushing is vastly improved by the tri- directional jets and lever. Moving the flushing handle to the side I like much better, as well as the new locking handle instead of those damn flip latches that were a pain in the but when emptying. The new dump-valve that is movable for cleaner easier waste disposal. All in all the CAMCO 41545 It World be a deal at twice the price. I shop Amazon first so thanks for exceeding expectations again.

closest to the real thing I could find
As a test, I used this for a few days before emptying... then fully cleaned it. During that time there was no noticeable smell at all... like to the point where I may even be comfortable keeping this inside an enclosed space.... There is a slight brief wiff of a sort of diapery masked smell when you flush (to be expected since you're essentially opening up the abyss and exposing the treated waste for a moment.) - The seat is just slightly shorter than my real toilette at home. Flush is good... I follow it up with a spray or two of bleach-based bathroom cleaner as well, just to be sure... but you might not even need that. Comes with a few treatment packs... but you should plan to buy your own for more than the 2 or 3 it comes with. Emptying will never be fun, but it's strait forward enough and they've done their best to make it workable....It is really just a matter of dump, rinse, repeat until you're comfortable with the results. I washed it for 'going to store it purposes' so I needed it to be spotless. Took 4 rinses and finished it with a bleach rinse.

RESEAT THE SEALS AS SOON AS IT ARRIVES!
There are other good reviews on the features and use, so i won't repeat that other than to say this is a quality portable toilet at a very reasonable price and we appreciate having it in our pop up camper. THAT SAID - MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE SEALS ARE SEATED PROPERLY BEFORE USING!!! Several of the rubber seal rings on mine were not correctly seated in the caps and caused leaks in my initial (clean water) testing. This included the cap for the clean water reservoir, the seal on the pump handle, and the drain cap from the holding tank. Basically all of the twist on caps had the rubber seal not correctly lined up before tightening down, which would likely cause some of the leaking that people were discussing in other reviews! Nothing was wrong with the seals themselves, they just needed to be pushed down in correctly around the caps so that it made a clean seal when tightened. Camco if you are reading this - you could save your self a lot of returns and bad press by fixing the process you use to insert those O rings !!
