Best gift EVER for 8 to 14 year olds
I started playing guitar when I was 13. I wish I would have had someone gift this to me as I did gift it to a friends daughter a couple of weeks ago. Very nice playing guitar. Yamaha does not make trash. I can tell you that. I've played dozens of high-end Yamaha's $1200 and up. I knew I picked a good guitar for her to start on when I saw the brand name. I could not believe Yamaha had a guitar in this price range. Do your research and read the reviews. You'll find that this model is one of the best for beginners out there. I've played in crowds of close to a thousand and can tell you that this is a fine acoustic guitar to start with. Played it myself when it first came in. Well made. This wood finish was very appealing to the eye. And, most of all, being a 3/4 size guitar.....it's nice to see a young child start his/her life in music and know that you may have played a small part in it. You'll be remembered by that kid forever. Excellent guitar. Unfortunately, I have four nieces to go.....must work the overtime hours to get them all one of these starters. Happy pickin' Daniel

Very nice 3/4 size
This kit was slightly different than pictured. It included a clip on/mic tuner instead of the key chain one in the picture. I've never tried a keychain one, but the clip on Legacy tuner works very well. The instructions aren't very clear, but if you've played any instrument before, it's pretty self explanatory. You can easily look up how to use a tuner online anyway. The kit came with a basic guitar stand, music stand, extra set of strings (wasn't mentioned in the description), strap, peg winder, pick holder, a bag of assorted picks, cloth gig bag, and a capo. There are no instructions for using the accessories, so if you're learning on your own, you'll have to look it up. This starter kit is great to, well, get started! Everything you need to get started comes with the guitar. It's made in Indonesia, but this Yamaha is excellent quality, especially for the price. It's well assembled, has excellent sound, and the turners work well. You'll need to tune it out of the box and adjust the tuning early on until the strings stretch, but after a few sessions, it'll stay in tune quite well. The finish on the guitar is quite nice. Nothing flashy, but well assembled. For the same price as just the guitar alone, this kit is well worth it. I'm very pleased with the overall quality and construction. It's definitely NOT a toy and works well. A great starter instrument for a child. Adults can play on it too, but most would probably find it a little cramped.

Impressive little guitar!
Bought this for my son for Christmas. His music teacher suggested Yahama as a product that will hold up and not sound horrible. Comes with the tuner, picks, learning cd, guitar strap and guitar bag. Tuner worked good. Picks were fun colored. (My oldest bribed him out of one.) Am very happy and impressed with this purchase.

An insane value. This is not a "kids'" guitar, but it's perfect for kids.
I got this for my five-year-old son's birthday. He's interested in music and always wants to play my guitar (and drums). So I did some research about kids' guitars, and came to the realization that most "kids'" guitars aren't of the best quality, and don't even stay in tune. Hence my purchase of the Yamaha JR1. It's not a kids' guitar, it's just a 3/4 size acoustic built of the same quality as comparably priced full-sized guitars. And it's Yamaha, a company I have always had good luck with and have no reason to doubt the quality of the instrument. This guitar provides a huge value for the money. The extras that came with it also sweeten the deal. While my son hasn't yet started to learn seriously, he has fun with this and I know that soon we'll be playing music together. Great purchase for kids . . . .or if you just want a travel guitar for yourself.

Loving the amazing deal- my hubby 6"2 enjoys playing the kids toys- like all you big old baby daddies! Ha and he popped the Dora strings right off the old one this ones beautiful and fits all my children;-) har har- but the only thing is you will be looking for a new guitar bag before long thankfully I just remebered I saved the box the shape of the quitar so I am going to go place it safely in there, the whole seams just came apart, we bought it about thanksgiving and it just passed valentines i know it's going to be one of the crowned musical items As my little band grows

This is one heck of a bargain
This guitar is lovely and well worth what we paid for it, but when you include all the accessories, it's a steal! The guitar itself is perfect for our elementary school-aged kid, but an adult would not look out of place using this either. If you're a petite person looking for a starter guitar, don't rule this out! I'm of average build myself, and found it MUCH easier to make cord shaped compared to my husband's full sized guitars.

Great gift for my 8 year old son.
I have an 8 year old son who wanted to take guitar lessons. In reading reviews trying to find a guitar for him a lot of people seemed to recommend the 'baby taylor' and honestly I might have gotten one of those except the only one that came with a bag at the time I was shopping was the girls version. This one was a name brand, was more than half the price of the baby taylor, looked better for a boy (no roses or girly designs), and came with all the accessories I figured my son would need. His private instructor (who is a professional musician) said it was a good choice for a beginner and a kid, so I am really glad I pick this one. No regrets, looks great, feels great, price was right and my kid loves it and learning to play. Well worth the purchase, thanks Amazon.

Our Son Loves His Guitar!
Outstanding! We gave this to our son for his 8th birthday. This guitar is well made and perfectly sized. It remains in tune and came with every needed accessory. If your child wishes to play seriously this is an excellent beginner guitar. Well worth every cent! The customer service was outstanding. The shipping lightening fast. The guitar arrived in its box, packaged well in a shipping box. Highly Recommended! Would buy again!
