The Real Deal, but try homemade syrups!
We are big fans of authentic Hawaiian Shave Ice, having been to the islands a number of times. I was pleasantly surprised to see that we could get a home machine this inexpensively that does quite a good job. Sure, the shave ice in Hawaii is made with large expensive machines and so it's better and more consistent, but what comes out of this little machine is quite good and far better than sno-cone ice. Use the molds that come with the machine, keep extra ice "discs" on-hand in plastic bags in the freezer, and let the ice sit out for 5 minutes before shaving. When shaving, try tilting the top towards you to press the ice into the blade, and it shaves quite efficiently. Don't push down too hard - just enough to get it going. Tap the bowl while you shave to settle the ice, then lightly compact and shape with a large spoon. Poke the ice all around with a skewer to give the syrup a path to the bottom. Then apply syrups. But here's the real key: don't use premade syrups. Read the label - there's little or no fruit even in them. Instead, make your own, which is surprisingly easy to do, and will make the result taste 100x better, just like in Hawaii. All you do is put 3/4 cup of water, 3/4 cup of sugar, and 3/4 cup of chopped fruit into a saucepan, bring to boil, simmer for 5 min, turn off heat and let come to room temp, then pour through a strainer. Squeeze a lemon into the mixture before simmering if you want a bit more tart (helps preserve it too). Keep in fridge for up to two weeks. All the top Hawaii shave ice stands use homemade syrups, and they make all the difference.

Freshly fallen snow consistency shaved ice. Excellent customer service!
Edit: It stopped shaving ice about a month into use, BUT, thanks to the 1 year manufacturers warranty, customer service took care of the problem politely, quickly, and without any hassle. I got a replacement in under a week, got to keep the original blade and cups, and didn't have to ship the broken one back. 5 stars for customer service. Now, about the product, itself; I am in love with this little thing. It indeed makes "freshly fallen snow" consistency shaved ice. Because of the price, I was sceptical, but am pleasantly surprised, as it truly can make near perfect snow. It did take me a few times to get it just right, you'll definitely want to let the pucks melt just a little bit, but it works like a dream! It is pretty loud, but that doesn't really bother me. Only other thing is you'll probably want to have a blade replacement on hand if you're going to be using it a ton. It's a sturdy little machine, for how lightweight it is. We love this thing so much I will probably be buying another one to have on hand. I will definitely get the extended warranty, however. In all fairness, I use mine several times a day, every day.

Would recommend to all pregnant people living in hot climates
As a currently pregnant person, eating bowls of plain shaved ice is heavenly. Also plenty of my dishes fit under this, but I am eating out of a bowl so that's something.

Pregnant ladies’ dream
After trying another brand of snow cone machine I just wasn’t content with the chunky ice it produced- I can get crushed ice from my fridge. So I saw reviews of this machine online saying it made the best shaved ice for its price range. During this pregnancy I’ve been craving snow & whatever was left as it melted here in MN. So when it was all gone I knew I needed a replacement. This machine truly does create fluffy snow!! We froze the water in the included tubs then sat them on the counter for 5 mins as recommended. The 2 tubs made enough snow for myself & 6 kids to have a little treat. How wonderful, to make your own snow anytime you want! I just love it plain but there are ideas in the booklet for adding flavor. Great buy!

Great for making shaved ice on a hot day for ...
Great for making shaved ice on a hot day for the family. I wouldn't recommend for large volumes of shave ice or blades will wear out. Other than that it's great. Made Halo Halo with this and it's good.

An anemic woman's best friend
Alright folks, here it is. I'm iron deficient and crave ice often. However, I probably don't have to tell you that constantly chewing ice can take a toll on your teeth (I've been fortunate not to have this happen and want to prevent it). With that said, this machine is GOLD! Setup is extremely easy and I used ice cubes straight from my freezer. Apply a little pressure on top to initiate the shaving and the ice looks like freshly fallen snow. Personally, I don't need any flavoring, but I imagine this baby would be even more of a gem during summer months at a BBQ. Children and adults can enjoy this, guilt free! Don't tarry. Buy this and I promise, you won't regret it.

Great product
This product is awesome. Make sure you let the ice sit for 5 mins before you use it as it makes the texture more fluffy. My unit ended up breaking down, however I contacted the customer service department and they were fantastic. They sent me out a brand new unit and didn't even want the broken one back. Great deal for the price.

Fun easy summer snacks
I've been enjoying this. It takes a bit of practice and finesse produce the nice fluffy "snow" style of ice if that's what you want, but it can be done. Tip1: I use repurposed 16 oz. cottage cheese/sour cream containers to make the ice. Fill them about 2/3 full or so. The resulting ice pucks fit perfectly and since the containers have lids, I can make several at a time and stack them in the freezer. Tip2: We like to use thawed frozen drink concentrates instead of the syrups. My favorite is the 100% grape juice with no added sugars. (saves $$ and tastes better) Tip3: Make awesome frozen lemonade (or other drinks) by preparing your frozen or powdered drink mixes extra strong and pouring it over a glass packed full of 'snow'. Tip4: We find that those little Mexican style salsa/dip bowls made of thick-ish plastic are great serving dishes. Perfect serving size. Don't freeze your hands. Don't get soggy and drip. (also, small Dairy-Queen size plastic spoons are nicer to eat with than regular size freezing cold metal ones)

So happy I took the chance on this!
I was so skeptical of this product's ability to make shave ice as opposed to crunchy sno cone ice that usually comes out of these more inexpensive home models. Used it the same night I received it and followed the instructions to leave the ice out to temper for 5 min and it was great! Fluffy ice shavings super smooth and nothing like crunchy sno cone ice. Ordered the 3 extra bowls and a blade for future use as well. I have been making multiple ice molds and keeping them in a freezer bag so that there are always some on hand. One ice block makes one larger or 2 medium sized shave ice cups.

The ice is delightfully like soft, fluffy snow. I love this little machine.
When I bought it, I only hoped it would make the shaved ice I love without crunchy bits in it. I did not expect it to do so, but bought it anyhow for at least small ice. It turns out, it really does make great shaved ice that is not crunchy. The ice is delightfully like snow. I have started making "snacks" of shave ice with it and freezing a second bowl of it for later. Each little round block of ice makes about two bowls full of light, fluffy shaved ice. I have been eating the ice plain, because I just like plain ice most of the time, but I plan to go add some of the flavorings to my cart soon to try those out too. I love this little machine.
