Awesome cheese slicer
I've had this slicer for about a month now and am definitely glad I purchased it. I got this after getting tired of the wires constantly breaking on previous slicers. The blade makes cutting easy and consistent. If you like your cheese slices to be thin enough to see light through, then this is your slicer. It can also consistently make thicker slices, if you like. There are only two things I noticed while using this slicer. First, if the blade is pushed at all towards the cutting board while slicing down, it can shave off the top corners of the white plastic cutting board for the first couple of slices. I noticed the little white shavings on my cheese and after realizing where they came from I did a couple of slices to purposely try to shave the rest of the corners off, then I just made sure to slice straight down from then on. I haven't noticed any shavings since. Second, you need to place something under the board to catch your cheese while you slice it if you don't just want it to fall onto your counter, table, etc. Just two things to be aware of but they don't degrade the function of the slicer.

Great cheese slicer
Couldn't believe how easy it is to cut the block of medium cheddar cheese. I took the cheese out of the fridge, while still cold to cut it. I we adjusted the thickness on the cutter and cuts really good. I hand wash the cutter being super careful with the sharp blade. It is so much faster and easier to cut the cheese into slices. I waited a while as they were out of stock, but very pleased with how well the cheese cutter.works. Thanks! I have better results when the cheese is cold, slices in uniform slices June 30, 2018 Love how it cuts the Tillamook Medium Cheddar block of cheese. It best to slice when cheese block just came out of the fridge, nice and cold and firm. I place the cutter so it is either on a big cutting board or partially on a kitchen or paper towel so cheese slices have a clean surface to drop on to when slicing.

The Best Cheese Slicer In The World
The good news is: this is the best cheese slicer in the world! The bad news is: this is the best cheese slicer in the world! Being the best, it has a VERY SHARP BLADE on which I cut myself one day in. I am admittedly prone to small accidents, so therefore I've passed the slicer on to a chef friend before I have another. That said, it's awesome, it does the job better than anything, and it's chef-worthy. Small cons: for my comfort, I would like the board surface to extend out beyond the blade so that the slices don't fall to the counter, which of course is not a huge thing, but I would like that better. That would also eliminate the need for the guide, which is tricky to use. Also, when I ordered it, I assumed the arm itself was the blade, but the blade is actually a separate piece affixed to the arm. This way, the blade is difficult to clean and the affixed area has a lot of hiding space for debris and bacteria. However, if you are great in the kitchen and familiar with knives and blades, you will LOVE this adorable, sturdy, very effective cheese slicer!

Awesome cheese slicer and no wires to break!
This is such a nice cheese slicer and no wire to break! Thank you Westmark for a wonderful product, I'm finally done with those flimsy cheap wire slicers (most all are junk in my opinion). Having tried another bladed unit and being disappointed, I thought I'd try this as it got decent reviews. This is different than other blade units with this blades support arm being wedge shaped with ripples on the sides. The cheeses I've tried so far (colby jack and cheddar) don't stick to it and very little cleanup. And no slot to get clogged, I love this cheese slicer! Plenty large to handle the large blocks of colby jack from the grocery store. And cuts very even, neat, consistent slices, thin or thick, with a cool adjusting mechanism that works very well. Has a nice edge on the back where the cheese block is supported and keeps it straight (like using a paper cutter). I haven't tried anything besides cheese yet, but looks to have many other uses. Very satisfied! The only drawback may be the sharp blade if you have young children, just something to keep in mind.

If your in the market this is the one
I totally hate wire cheese cutters, they are hard to clean and ive had the wire come loose. This one has a steel blade. And the thickness gauge is amazing. It can make cheese paper thin or as thick as you want it. Cuts ups salami also, so cheese and meat cut all at once with the same device. I also use this to slice apples and pears for my son, its almost the only way he will eat them now. I bought one for my family and after my mom used it (and loved it) i bought her one. Definitely the one to buy.

This slicer will effortless do what the others can only claim to do.
I got sick of broken wires and went shopping for a good cheese slicer...and found it. I read all the reviews and all the Q&A's before I bought this slicer, I received my slicer today and had to try it out. I found a new one pound package of Kraft Cheddar cold in my frig and started to work. Because the scale is in metric I had to make one small adjustment before I had just the right thickness. I could have sliced the whole one pound block in a few minutes...far better than I could do with a knife. Each slice was perfect with no crumbs, brakes or goo.

You want a slicer? Get this one.
DO NOT PUT THIS IN THE DISHWASHER. I purchased this to replace (2) cheese slicers that were wire and could not hold up to our usage. This lovely device slices bread, meat, sausage, hard and soft cheese, and it's nice and neat. Use the measurement gauge on the left, and the little red tab to the right of the blade adjusts the width of the item cut. It's almost like having a deli slicer in my kitchen. My bro sliced some very lean pork loin in to sandwiches. It was a thing of beauty. So, whether you are making art, crudite, sandwiches, or just slicing for your amusement, you won't find a better slicer for the money.

Best cheese slicer I've ever used! Love it!
I am so impressed with this slicer. It can't even be compared to my old one with the wire. Love, love, love this thing! The plastic tray portion does feel a little flimsy, but the cutting action can't be beat, and that's what's really important here! There is very little information on the box & no paperwork in it, so this doesn't tell me if it's dishwasher safe. I've decided to be cautious & treat it like I would a better knife & hand wad it. Kind of a pain, but I'm not sure the plastic tray would do well in the dishwasher (I really wish that was better made) & I would hate for anything to happen to the blade.

Best cheese slicer for me
I have been using this type of cheese slicer for about 40 years. This is an updated version from same company. It is imported from Germany. Old one has held up wonderfully but I wanted a spare new one as well. The blade has been slightly modified but does seem sturdy. I purchased several for gifts for Christmas for friends and relatives. Although advertised as slicer for sausage, lettuce etc. I would say it is really best intended for cheese. You can slice paper thin slices if desired or thicker as needed. The dial for setting thickness is not useful for me since I find it easier and faster to just rest the cheese block along back and push along with my hand as I slice away. Works great for those Costco blocks of imported or domestic cheese although sometimes I need to divide into 2 pieces to fit on slicer. Although I am basing my review mostly on old slicer, I have now tried the new one and it seems to work as well. Cheese lovers will probably love this simple, efficient slicer as I have. Update December 2016. I now have about 42 years experience using this type of slicer. To address some comments I would like to say remember it is best as a cheese slicer although I sometimes use to thin slice onion or mushrooms. Just watch your fingers. Cut larger cheese blocks to manageable size, wrap the rest for another day and slice smaller piece. You can get paper thin cheese slices with some experience by learning to push cheese gently into direction of blade while watching your fingers. Cleaning has never been problematic. Buy a dish washing brush with handle to clean. Drip dry in dish rack. I use this several times a week and bought my second slicer 2 years ago expecting my plus 40 year slicer to break at some point. I now use both.
