Startech actually works with WIN 8.1

Initially purchased the Gearhead USB to serial converter from a local computer store, to use with my new Dell Inspiron 3000 PC running Windows 8.1. Big mistake! Should have checked reviews in Amazon first. The Gearhead unit came with a driver disk, and on the box it said it was Windows 8 compatible. Wrong. Driver loaded with a Windows alarm in Device Manager, about insufficient virtual memory. Anyway, could not make it work. Returned to store. Ordered the StarTech adaptor from Amazon, recommended by Amazon users, and known to work with Windows 8. Sure enough, when it arrived, plugged the USB end into my Dell and Windows discovered the driver automatically via Windows Update. Did not even need to load the driver from disk.. Worked perfectly, with my Dylos Laser Particle Counter, which only has a serial port. Now plotting particle counts on PC. Six foot cable with Startech adaptor is 6 feet long; important when monitoring counts in real time from the fairly large particle counter, and must set the laptop down somewhere nearby.

Works better than serial port for older weather station

My newer computer does not have a serial port which is needed for my older weather station. The StarTech USB to serial adapter was easy to setup. Let windows 10 find the driver. It works better than when it was connected to the serial port on my old computer. I tried another brand adapter that didn't work well with my weather station. It would show up then disappear. StarTech works.

A perfect tool for installers of equipment with serial console connections

This product has been a time saver. I install storage arrays for a living and these arrays have dual controllers that require a serial connection for initial setup. Being able to have a console session open to both controllers at the same time has saved me a lot of running back and forth to switch cable connections. This works flawlessly with Windows 10 Pro and has been field tested on Mac OS as well. A perfect tool for installers of equipment with serial console connections. It also works just fine with Cisco and Dell roll-over cables as well as those Compellent SC4020 proprietary serial cables.

Updated LX200-ACF using Windows 10 flawlessly.

Used to update LX200ACF 12", did so flawlessly while using Meade #507 serial cable and Startech ICUSB2321F one port USB to serial cable while using Windows 10. Updated with ASU and StarPatch. No problems listed here and no connection issues whatsoever. Was 100% plug and play.

No chasing drivers and works great with Windows 10!

So many of these USB-serial adapters seem to require a bit of research to get the right drivers for Windows 10. This one worked without using the disk automatically. Windows update had the right driver for this type.

Works like a champ!

This serial adapter uses a bridge made by FTDI. The driver works great with Macs (get the latest driver from the FTDI support site). These are better than the Prolific PL2303 bridges. I had several Tandberg/Cisco devices that would not work with a Prolific bridge that worked with the FTDI bridge. This is the only bridge I use now.

Worked to hook up old trackball mouse to my pc

I needed to add this type of port to my pc for an old trackball mouse I wanted to start using again. This worked perfect

New Life for Old UPS Thanks to this Card

This is the second PCI-e RS-232 card I've tried, and this one worked! My application was connecting an old APC Uninterruptible Power Supply (Model BK650MC) to my HP Windows 7 64 bit computer, and having the UPS detect a "no power" condition, communicate it to the computer, and shut it down. It works very well. I used the APC PowerChute Business Edition Software (version 9.1.1).

Very happy with this adapter

Very happy with this adapter. I have had many issues with "cheap" adapters not always working with all of my devices, but this one has been a tank. Not a single complaint from any software/devices.
