I'm writing a review on this because mine just conked out a couple months ago. Let me reiterate that I purchased this in "2011" that was FIVE YEARS ago. I think that's pretty darned good, for continuous use through two laptops. If I could rate this a SIX, I would. It kept the laptops COOL, which is it's purpose, it LASTED an extremely LONG TIME (compared to most other brands) & it LOOKS extremely COOL. When your laptop lays flat on it, it doesn't slide around (used it on 15.6" Toshiba Satellite & Sony laptops) This has an adjustable air speed control (they don't all have that). I do LIKE that it only has ONE FAN, because I've found that multiple fans have a higher tendency to break down & get out of sync. This has a HARD MESH screen. Not like most of the flimsy ones on the market. This thing is built REALLY WELL (I know, mine was DROPPED a few times while hurriedly getting my laptop out the door-Not a Scratch). Of course the Eerie Blue Light is Cool, but that comes on a lot of Cooling Pads. Don't be fooled, they are NOT from the same company. Cooler Master, as far as the model I've used so far, makes a SUPERIER PRODUCT. I would RECCOMENT it to anyone. And Yes, I Do Test & Review Products, but this is one that I purchased Five Years ago & I just want the Amazon buying public to know, it's a GOOD Product.

I have an Alienware 17.3 laptop and it runs very hot when playing games. So hot I had to get a lapdesk to put the laptop on because it would burn my legs. I've had it for a little over 3 years now and it recently started shutting down due to overheating. I cleaned out the fans and heatsink fins and also repasted the processor. It still kept shutting down on me. So, I decided to go hunting for a laptop cooling pad. This particular model stuck out from the rest because of its size (being able to accommodate a large laptop) and the design blends excellently with the Alienware. Well, two things - first, I reverted my chipset drivers to the older Alienware/Dell official drivers (was running updated Intel drivers) and that seems to have fixed the shutdown problem. The laptop was not actually overheating but the Intel chipset drivers would trigger a shutdown because they thought it was too hot. Second, this laptop cooling pad keeps the laptop running about 10 degrees Celsius cooler than without it. It is especially noticeable under heavy gaming. So, even with the shutdown problem solved, I am going to continue using the cooling pad.

I bought an Avantek CP152 and Havit HV-F2033 recently, which are supposed to be better than the X-Lite II, at least on paper... These competitors are sold at a comparable price and size, but contain two large 140mm fans that run at an impressive 1200 RPM. One would assume these specs alone would allow them to cool a laptop better than a single 140mm fan at 1500 RPM, as is the case with the X-Lite. Wrong! According to Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, the X-Lite averages 3-5 degrees cooler across the board! Considering the average drop in temperature is between 7-10 degrees in total for these vertical coolers, an extra 5 degrees is remarkable. How can a single fan so clearly outperform two identically sized fans? Upon further inspection of the X-Lite, one may notice three distinct design advantages that may cause this odd result: 1. Fan blade design. Cooler Master does not use standard fans as are commonly shared between brands like Avantek and Havit. The blades are much wider, similar to the fans found on some recent graphic cards. 2. Grating design and quality. When one inspects the Avantek/Havit alternatives, it is clear that the chassis around the fans are not streamlined for efficient cooling and the materials used do not keep the fan housing safe from interference. The empty space around the fans leak air flow and collect dust. Those brands cut corners by removing supports and lowering material quality and thickness to minimize cost. This can be noticed most easily by how their fans scrape their sagging gratings. 3. A single fan may actually be the most efficient use of air flow. The X-Lite is designed around a single fan like its bigger brethren. No doubt, Cooler Master experimented with multiple fan designs over the years (as is the case on the U2) and realized that beyond a certain scale, the airflow from multiple fans not only provided diminishing returns, but may actually cannibalize performance rather than improve it. I'd also like to settle all doubt that X-Slim's little brother is not up to par with the family in terms of build quality and industrial design. In short, the plastic here is more solid than the metal found on the competitors; there is no warping whatsoever. Regarding industrial design, I'm glad to find that the X-Lite is not only as thin as its skimpy competitors, but also properly integrates USB ports and control over the fan speed. Simply put, it's the best in class.

You know...I've read a lot or reviews and a number of them across these laptop coolers just don't make sense. What I can tell you is this product works very well. (power cord not included). I have an older mac book pro laptop, the one with the all metal case and this thing would get pretty hot. I'm not a mac fan boy...I just had the computer for a while and then I went crazy and install linux mint on it (great decision). Back to the cooler, it works great, the case does not get warm at all with the cooler going and so I've not marryed the cooler with the mac laptop. I don't use this in portable manner very often so it just stays sitting on the cooler . If you need a laptop cooler for a desk type situation..this is a good choice.

This review applies to the Cooler Master NotePal X3 - Gaming Laptop Cooling Pad with 200mm Blue LED Fan. Updates are reverse-chronological **UPDATE - January 2018** I found a replacement USB cord in October 2017 (you'll need USB 2.0 Cable - A-Male to Mini-B - 3 Feet) on Amazon and my cooler has been working great since. This cooler has even outlasted the 2008 Dell Latitude E6400, as well as its budget replacement: a 2013 Dell Inspiron 3537 (both were brand-new computers) I got a 2011 Lenovo Thinkpad T420 and it's virtually indestructible - I switched out the HDD for an SSD. Although there isn't as much heat from an SSD compared to an HDD, I still keep it on this chill mat at it's lowest setting and it's fine! **UPDATE - September 2017** Was working fine after 6 years until I lost the USB Cord! I was looking at the manufacturer’s website and couldn’t find a replacement. If anyone can find a USB replacement here on Amazon, chime-in in the comments below, as it would help me to continue reviewing this EXCELLENT product! =) **ORIGINAL 2011 REVIEW** Currently, I own a 2008 Dell Latitude E6400, which always gets the "blue screen of death" from over-heating. Keep in mind, I often crossed my legs on my lap, allowing sufficient airflow to the cooling vent. I honestly thought notebook coolers were a niche product. Having had experience with the awful Targus PA248U1 Chill Mat, I had virtually given up on a notebook cooler being able to solve my alarming heat problem. However, I perused Amazon's site for a few hours and did my homework. I soon discovered the criteria that my prospective cooler needed to fit: -College student's meager budget -Solve severe laptop over-heating problem -Style wasn't important. An ugly/effective cooler is better than vice versa. -Casual web-surfing/movie-watching/paper-writing use. I don't need a gaming cooler, since I don't leave my laptop on for like 6-8 hours at a time. -Ability to be used on the lap. I do lots of homework on the couch at my school's study lounge. -Good Warranty when Amazon's return period expires -Preferably one fan -Preferably with an extra USB port -Preferably a company that specializes in desktop/laptop cooling -Most important: Something that will LAST a long time, more than 1 year. Front-Runners -Zalman NC-300U -One fan, not-bulky, great workmanship, extra USB ports and fan control...man this had it all! While the price was a bit of a stretch (I still could have afforded it), it did not look lap-friendly at all. -Antec "Classic" Cooler -The three year warranty and trustability on the market since 2003 was really, REALLY tempting. However, the sole reason I did not choose this was that the wire adaptor looked very flimsy. -X-Pad -No fans, no electricity, cheap price, highly durable, effective rubber stoppers and beating out other coolers in a Cnet.com test made this very tempting! However, I have heard the customer service is non-responsive, the new rubber stinks and some users have reported the heat is transferred to their legs. Most of all, cooling ability depends on the laptop's design. Since my laptop's vent is on the side and not on in the center, I was skeptical. By the way, here is the link to that Cnet.com test: [...] -Thermaltake Massive23 LX -This, in my opinion, was the most similar to my final decision. However, it looked really bulky and didn't seem suitable for lap use. -Targus Lap Chill Mat AWE55US -I really wanted to give Targus another chance, no hard feelings. It looked really roomy! However, it was reputed to not last longer than a year. After looking at the price against the reliability, I decided against it -Cooler Master Notepal U2 -While the fan-positioning, price and #1 best-selling status made this a front-runner, I decided against this for 3 reasons: the fans weren't known to last long, the wiring was exposed and it wasn't good for lap use -Logitech Cooling Pad N100 -The silent operation, rear-intake and how it was designed specifically for the lap was really tempting. However, the material looked flimsy, it was reviewed to not last long and the airflow was not adjustable. I needed a really strong fan. First Impressions When I opened to box, I was immediately struck by how much sturdier, classier and compact it looks in person. I was reading the reviews and I noticed some say its bulky, but for my needs, I don't find this an issue. I carry a leather briefcase in addition to my laptop backpack, so I'll just stick this in there so it doesn't get crushed. Performance I used a free program called CPUID Hardware Monitor to record the temperature with and without the cooler. Without and wireless on (casual web surfing): 108 Degrees Fahrenheit With (high speed) and wireless on (watching movie online): 100 Degrees Fahrenheit With (high speed) and wireless on (casual web surfing): 98 Degrees Fahrenheit With (high speed) and wireless off: 94 Degrees Fahrenheit Pros -The aluminum "mesh belly" dissipates heat effectively. I'd also imagine that it would make using a can of compressed air easy. -Cool Light-up effect. Not only does it look space-age, but it lets you know that the cooler is on. -On/Off Switch. As I have been told, this is more valuable than you think because detaching the USB cord while the fan is on could possibly shorten the cooler's life. I would turn it off first before disconnecting it -Fan Control. Its stiff (indicating great build-quality) and responsive. At a touch or two below max level, it's still very quiet! -Having one large fan instead of two smaller ones is rather nice. Not only is it quieter, but distributes heat evenly. Even though my laptop's main vent is located on the left side (as opposed to the "windier" center of the cooler), it still cools very well! -Pop-out legs for height adjustment -2 USB ports, one to connect your laptop and one to replace the USB port you gave up connecting this cooler. That means you don't give up any USB ports at all to connect this cooler to. -Detachable USB cord is well-constructed. If you don't want to use up your laptop's battery, you can plug in the USB cord into an MP3/Cell phone charger. -Unlike some other (especially more high-end) notebook coolers on the market, this can be used comfortably on the lap. While it does not have a mesh underside, the plastic is surprisingly comfortable and does not conduct any heat to my legs. -1 year warranty Cons -Doesn't look easy to take apart to really clean inside the nook and crannies. -Perforated edges don't hold my laptop securely. The crannies between my laptop and battery pack thankfully provide a good anchor to the cooler. A rubber stopper on the surface (like on the Cooler Master Notepal U2) or pop-up legs on the bottom (like on the Logitech Speaker Lap Desk N700) would have been nice. To buy or not to buy...? For day one, I'll let the performance speak for itself. However, I will keep you posted if anything arises. Thanks for reading and good luck on your search!

this is a great product. i didn't really buy it as a cooler i bought it more as a stand to keep my laptop where im comfortable. as a cooler it did work well on my ASUSG750JW that got hot a lot even when not gaming. it now sits on my ASUSG752VS and still works great but i don't need the cooling features on this laptop, i simply cant seem to get it hot no madder the game or settings. i do wish however i could have found this in a 3.0. at the time i looked and looked. there was one rumored but i couldn't find it for sale. its built very very well but don't travel well its bulky and hard to fit in bags. however with the build quality, ill deal with the extra bag. (2018 Update ) just an update, this thing finally broke now in 2018. it wasn't the fault of the product it was mine, it took one hell of an inpact to do it. i didn't even look for another cooler i simply went and purchased this one again. worth every penny.

Good Cooling pad. + Fits my 17" MSI GS75 Stealth which is closer to a 15" older laptop size with just a small overhang. + Cooling is decent. My Laptop runs quieter while gaming by about 3 to 10 degrees depending on the game and what I am doing. Any cooling is significant because it ultimately means lower fan speeds which is quieter. My Laptop being a Thin and Light runs high fan speeds to make up for lack of cooling space while on GPU and CPU high loads. + Seperate buttons for Fan and Lights. great if you don't want the gaudy blue lights on which are actually pretty dim. + Built in Storage for USB cords +Fan is quiet. It is not silent, but being so large, it has a great sound as a whoosh. I forget to turn it off a lot even when I fall asleep right next to it, so it isnt annoying at all and is usually quieter than my laptop. + Angle with the legs down is more comfortable to type with than my laptop flat. - pricey for what it is - quality is ok. feels kind of cheapy plastic but its light which is good and bad. - bulky - i use this for home use only, it is too bulky for me to use on the road.

This is specifically for the pad listed as "Cooler Master NotePal X-Slim Ultra-Slim Laptop Cooling Pad with 160mm Fan." It's a metal screen front panel and a slotted plastic back panel surrounding one large fan, so very lightweight. The back of the pad has a channel to rout the USB power cable to either the right or left, as well as very convenient posts for tying off the cable after use on each side. The fan is not silent, but it is very quiet and low pitched. There are no lights on this model. One thing to be aware of is that the screened surface is coated and slick, so some laptops will easily slide right off if you're holding it in your lap at an angle. This isn't really an issue on a flat surface, where it shines.

If you are looking for a laptop cooler I honestly would recommend this one over ALL others. This unit contains no useless LED lights, it does not have 20 additional USB ports, and it may not be the best looking unit but, what it has is great cooling capabilities, quiet fans, fan speed adjustability, a perfect angle for typing, heavy duty aluminum construction, high quality rubber to prevent computer slippage, the ability to be used as a laptop carrier, and the best feature ever; FANS THAT CAN BE MOUNTED ANYWHERE so they can be placed where you laptop's vents are!! I am a professional writer and desktop publisher who uses high end workstations and I have used many, many cooling pads. I wish I would have tried this one first. Seriously, DO NOT waste your money on ANYTHING ELSE! This is the best cooling stand on the market!

I don't know why there aren't more laptop coolers that allow you the freedom of modding it to your liking because it would sell amazingly well. I bought the U3 Plus with the intention of doing just that after seeing a review on Youtube that gave me an idea of clearance and space for fan sizes. Unfortunately this was the only real option I came across for being able to mod it. I came from a crappy Technet Cooling Pad with slow fans that made ticking noises and hardly pushed any air. Temps never changed on idle or load from what I could tell and with a gaming laptop like the Sager NP8652 it heats up pretty quickly. I've played a lot of PUBG and Grim Dawn lately and it's normal for CPU & GPU temps to hit 80c. Are those temps safe? Of course they are, but heat kills electronics and the cooler the laptop runs in the long term the longer it will live. So I spent a little more than any laptop cooler costs and got what I paid for, cooler temps. Average of 10c drop on load temps for both CPU and GPU. Yes, it is a little louder than a regular laptop cooler because you have more fans pushing air faster thanks to the higher voltage output of the setup, but personally it doesn't bother me. I'm used to the hum of fans and usually have headphones on or the volume up anyways. This is what I bought to make it all work: - Noctua NF-A12x15 - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071W6HJP6/ - SilverStone PWM Fan Hub System Cables, Black (CPF04) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VNW556I/ - Coolerguys 100-240v AC to 12 & 5v DC 4pin Molex 2A Power Adapter - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MGG6SC/ - NSIcable 15-pin SATA Power Female to 4-pin Molex Male Power Cable Adapter - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003WSY8J6/ Layout is specific for my laptop based on the location of the vents on the bottom. If setup right, you can fit six 120mm fans on this cooler. I started out with 3 and it works great for my laptop, but actually just bought a fourth fan to finish the layout since that side of the laptop gets warm as well. Do I need it? Nope, I just want it. Heat kills!
