Outlasts 12 hours
I just got finished really testing these out for longevity and brightness and I'm not disappointed. First for longevity, For the first 12 hours they stayed consistently bright, and they stayed lit for 2 hours after that before finally dimming. They were still dimly lit 20 hours after I first initiated them. For longevity it definitely gets a 5 for 5. They aren't overly bright, they will light a map or anything you are trying to read but they won't light your immediate surroundings but that's also not what they are meant for. They are meant for reading maps and signaling which they would do great in. Overall, they do what they are meant to do and outlast the 12 hours they are advertised for. There is also a clip at the top to make it easier to attach to packs or anything really so there is a high usefulness as well.

High Quality Light Sticks
I keep a few of these in the car for emergencies, but I primarily buy them as toys for the kids. They love to play with them on summer nights, especially in the pool. I started buying these Military Grade sticks because a friend had a bad experience with the cheaper sticks. One leaked when his kids were playing in the bath, and it permanently stained their tub. These sticks are very well made, and are very bright (I always buy green, so I don't know how the other colors perform). They usually have a little life left the next morning, so I would say that the 12-hour claim is accurate. We have never had a dud, and I usually buy a box or more every summer. I have been very pleased with these sticks. We have never had a leak, or any other problems with them. Highly recommended.

These are awsome and very reliable. I usually buy 20 at a shot (2 boxes) but this time I just ordered up 40 of them. My only complaint is that not all colors are 12 hr durations and thats a bummer but even the 8 hour ones last well over the time indicated. Its important to understand with these lights, you're not going to turn night into day with these things, they're meant to illuminate your immediate surroundings. I actually use them as markers, like when my friends and I go night hiking, we can easily spot eachother in the dark, Or if your walking in the woods in the middle of the night with your hands full of gear and you gotta run back to the car because you forgot something, you set your gear down, mark them with a chem, run back to the car, and still be able to locate your gear again in the dark. If your a fisherman these are great for night fishing to mark the end of your rod so you can easily see if your getting hits. A great tool for any outdoors man.

Light up the night with chemlights
Great product, this chemical lights work well for a variety of uses. I have used them on an early morning hike in at dark while deer hunting. It provided great illumanses to navigate through the dense brush but not enough to highlight my silhouette, making it perfect to get into position undetected. They work well for Halloween not only to mark my kids, but to use in pumpkins. I keep several on hand as well for emergency preparedness, they last throughout the night making them ideal.

Go for the 15 Min. one's
go for the 15 Min. ones if you need a lot of light. This one produces a dull light, enough to read a grid map or throw down a hole. They well last to the 8hr mark. But it well be useable till the 26.5hr mark. Though after 6 hours it starts to dull about 5% every hour after that. At the 12~26hr mark its only good for bread crumbing an area.

Safety, functional and fun
These are great. I keep them in our car for emergencies and use them for family activities in the dark. My kids love these and we used them on the Fourth of July to enhance the fun and add safety. They are far brighter and last much longer than the typical light sticks you buy at your local sporting goods store. They give usable light for changing a tire in the dark and still have a solid glow 24 hours later.

Brighter than other sticks on Amazon
I've thrown a few of these into every emergency bag, kit, box and drawer that I have. After testing this Cyalume item against others listed on Amazon, I can report that these are brighter and last longer. Buy green for better ambient lighting. Buy yellow for better visibility from long-distances.

Great Product - Fairly Bright
This Orange is bright, though the Yellow and Green are brighter. This is one color where I found Military was brighter than Industrial version. I compared the six colors in both Military and Industrial, see images for more information. Overall, I did not notice a significant difference between the Military and the Industrial grade. I do like that the wrappers on the Industrial ones show the color clearly, while the Military has only the name of the color. I've found that they last the time advertised, note that the white and blue ones are rated for less time than the others, 8 hours vs. 12. (There are other models with differences in brightness/duration). The brightest ones by my measures, were the Yellow and Green ones, followed by the Orange ones. Red, Blue, and White would not be bright enough to read a map; but are good for marking things in a campsite or elsewhere. Other uses: give each child a different color so you can locate them easier, marking different hiking or skiing trails, or use different color to locate first aid/water/etc..

Now THIS is a glow stick
I purchased a number of different glow sticks at various price points, and these are by far the best and brightest. Twice as bright as the cheaper ones, and longer lasting. Also much more expensive, but for an emergency kit, worth the premium. I did a side-by-side test, this brand and 2 cheaper ones. At activation this one was clearly MUCH brighter than the other two. Twice as bright would not be a big stretch. An hour after activation, this one was just as bright, the cheapies had dimmed considerably. Not even a close race. My ONLY complaint (besides the price) is that they are individually wrapped - which by itself isn't a bad thing, but the wrapper is awfully tough to open in full daylight. I can only imagine what it would be like in patch darkness. Something to think about if you're putting them somewhere you can easily reach them in the dark.
