The first GermGuardian I purchased produced a chemical smell for about 2 months. After that, the air it filtered smelled crisp and clean. Expecting the same lengthy breaking in period, I was thrilled that from the moment we turned our second GermGuardian on it produced no smell at all. Not only does this keep visitors with a cat allergy comfortable in our cat friendly house, but we all seem to be breathing better even during pollen and mold seasons. Suffice to say, we are so pleased with this product that we now have 4 of them.

Looks easy to change

My air purifier is 3 months old and have not yet had the need to use this. I do clean it ever 30 days as my instruction book suggested, by vacuuming filters. Now at 60 days I just changed the prefilter (charcoal) one for first time this month. It is not an expensive one but the cleaner it stays the longer it will be before I have to change the combination Heppa / charcoal expensive filter. I have COPD and run my unit 24/7. Ran it on high for first 24 hours. Then mostly use it on low except when commercial mowers show up when I put it back on high for 2 hours. On low for all the rest of the time and it works great!

Great product!

GermGuardian products are awesome! I was having extreme allergies when I first moved into my apartment over 6 years ago. Then I bought a GermGuardian air purifier, and within a week my allergies were 10 times better! I would highly recommend this product to anybody with bad allergies. Or anyone who just wants their living space to smell better!

I was amazed that it worked as described.

I had trouble sleeping at night as my nose would become stuffy and I couldn't breath properly which led to dry mouth and tired days. I tired OTC remedies and doctor prescribed sprays. Nothing worked until I bought the GermGuardian Air Purifier. I have had it about nine months and have changed the filter once. I am in the process of changing it for the second time now. This means cheap to keep, quiet white noise and I run it 24/7. I am in the desert where we get dust storms and I am on corner so traffic is steady and road dust abounds. I would recommend this to anyone having the issues I had. I forgot to mention I am a dog lover and yes, I sleep with a dog. She was not the problem as the issue arose years before I had her in the house. Give it a try.

If your allergies suck this is for you!

I struggle daily with allergies. I bought this on December 29, 2017 after days of researching how to help my situation. I leave my purifier on all day. It hasn’t affected my monthly bill. My purifier just started flashing red, almost exactly 7 months later. I just switched out my filters and I am a believer. In my pictures you will see the old filter on the left and brand new filter on the right. I couldn’t believe all the stuff we could have been breathing in! Do I still have allergy issues? Yes. But I do feel this has made quite a difference. I used to get so congested I felt sick on the daily. Now my allergies are more of a livable situation.

Works just as good as the original black filters

Don’t know why the other reviews are so harsh. The new version of this filter is the same as the original version. The only difference is the color of the plastic frame that encases the HEPA/carbon filter. The original versions of this filter had black plastic while this one has yellow plastic for whatever reason. Maybe the yellow plastic is cheaper, but as long as the filter itself seems to be of original quality then it doesn’t bother me. I felt the carbon layer and it feels the same so I do not think anything has changed with the filter material. Works as it should.

For anyone that has an allergic induced asthma, I recommend using this.

I have an allergic induced asthma and live in a high desert location. Seasonal allergies get my asthma going and I've been able to control my asthma by having the Germ Guardian air filtration unit going day and night in my house. If you have pets that release dander and bring in irritants into your home, or if you live in heavily populated areas with pollution being an issue, I can see this improving your air quality. One of these filters last me about 3 months, and on seasons where there are more pollutants in the air, I go through the charcoal part of the filters more often. It keeps the costs down to buy the charcoal filters separate and that way you only have to replace the cheaper charcoal filter more often, and the hepa filter lasts you even longer.

It Works!

I always reorder these filters for our GermGuardian Air Purifier. I keep a pre filter on this one so as to increase the longevity and make sure the pre filter is cleaned once a week. With that being said, I get about 6 months use from this hepa replacement filter which spreads the cost out somewhat. It is a worthwhile investment.

Works great.

This filter catches more impurities and odors from the air then I had hoped for. I use these for 3-4 month increments and will vacuum it half way through. Below are photos of a used filter on the left after 4 months of use (most days having the air filter running 24 hours in a row) next to a new unused one. Highly recommended if you are someone who likes a clean home with clean air. This filer is extremely easy to replace.

it doesn't look too dirty. I ordered the new one

I noticed that the there was not a lot of air coming from the front grill of the purifier so I looked at the filter and thought, it doesn't look too dirty. I ordered the new one, look at the difference. Changed the filter and the air is flowing great now. My filter lasted me almost 6 months but the space that it is in is bigger than what is recommended for this filter. If it were in a smaller room it would not be as dirty in that amount of time but nonetheless I'm really happy with it.
