Grind the imperfections away!
This coarse grit whetstone is great for prepping old and dull knives that need to be sharpened with a fine grit stone. One of my good knives edge looked like someone had tried to chop barbed wire. After ten minutes on each side of the stone, the edge was smooth and free of imperfections. After it hit the knife with the fine grit stone, I was cutting onions and apples like hot butter! I would soak this stone for 12-24 hours before using. It sucks water like a sponge. The surface needs to be damp when you sharpen.

At first I wasn't impressed...
Heres why I wasn't impressed at first. I only used it for a few minutes on each side, which resulted in nothing. I watched a video online with a master chef using his stone, and he sharpened his knife for 10 minutes on each stone before moving up to a finer grit. I took this hint, and used sharpened my knife on each side of this stone for 10 minutes, which led to perfection. I have a Chef's knife from 2008 that I never used because it is so dull and impossible to sharpen using a traditional sharpening steel / rod. The steel seems to be very hard German steel, so there it sat in my knife block for years. This morning I spent 20 minutes with this stone, and it's back to being flawlessly sharp. Highly recommended.

Great stone at a fantastic price
I've been using this stone for 2 months now to free hand sharpen my knives. The stone came perfectly flat. Just soak it for 15 minutes and wet it occasionally while sharpening and you're good to go. The 400 grit let's you put a burr on your knives fast and the 1000grit puts a nice polished edge on. Follow with a strop with green compound and you have a hair popping edge in less than 15 minutes. I bought a knife the other day that had a big gouge on the edge as if someone had hit another knife edge on it. I ground the edge completely flat with a grinding wheel so it was duller than a butter knife. It took me about 30 minutes with this stone to put a shaving sharp edge back on it from completely flat dull. You really don't need expensive stones to get amazing edges. This $13 stone will do it. I would also recommend a 6000 grit stone if you want a mirror edge, but it is not required for a shaving sharp edge. A strop however is a must have item. I would recommend to anyone just getting into sharpening to buy this stone and some really cheap used knives from a garage sale or flea market. Watch a few youtube videos and practice free hand sharpening and stick with it. In a month or 2 you will be putting incredible edges on knives in just minutes. You just have to build muscle memory to be consistent.

Works well
5 Years and still going, It's a wet stone and i'm sure in a few years I will need to replace it as they do ware out. I like the size, just set it on a hand towel and work your blade. Nice stone.

Sharpens my knives well
I had a knife sharpener, the kind you run your knives through, which ruined a couple of my knives. They were dull and an absolute horror to use to cut anything. So I got this Whetstone, worked hard for close to an hour on both knives and they turned out even better than before! Cuts through paper like butter. It's been a month since I last sharpened them and they are still very sharp! I cook daily and use my knives a lot so I'm definitely glad I got this Whetstone.

Youtube Video + This = Sharp Knife!
I watched a youtube video and spent only about 5 minutes sharpening my favorite knife and now it's razor sharp. I previously was using the "steel" that came with my knife set, but using a whetstone is what really puts a nice edge on it. The only concern is that I don't want anyone else in the house using the knife as it's ultra sharp (again)

Great stone for the monies, hair shaving sharp in minutes with pocket knives!!!!
Works well. Just got it today, sharpened two pocket knives, one a 8Cr13MoV Chinese steel, the other s30v American steel The stone made short work of both steels (which were pretty sharp already). But notably was able to make the s30v hair shaving sharp easily, something I've had trouble with. Inexpensive and useful, I love this stone. It's not the Ninja sharp 8000+ grits that you can find, but for pocket knives and EDC, it's perfect and inexpensive. Get One!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good coarse soaking stone for great price
I bought this stone because I needed a coarse stone to go with my king kw-65 1000/6000 combo. While that stone is great, I needed a coarse stone like this 400 side to bring my dull VG high carbon steel harder knives back to sharp. I chose this stone b/c of price and favorable reviews (by burrfections on YouTube). I've used it for two knives now. Found the stone easy to use with good feedback. A bonus of adding a second coarser stone, it is useful to keep your other stone flat.

Works well if you know what you're doing
I was tought in Boy Scouts how to use a whetstone to sharpen knives, so with that being said this is a fine whetstone. Used it on my kitchen knives as well as pocket knives and they all came out really well. Also helped with a pretty bad chip in a pocket knife. Definitely a brand I'd by again when I need another, or a different grit. I'm giving it a 4/5 stars on "Easy to use" because while it's a whetstone so it's pretty easy to use, you have to know what you're doing. You can't just start rubbing the blade against it and expect it to come out right. If you aren't interested in learning how to do it right, you're better off with one of the simpler knife sharpeners, or an electrical one.

Everyone in the ER was impressed with how sharp my knives are.
I can personally verify that this will get your knives very sharp. I will spare you all the gory details, but the picture is of the instructions the ER sent me home with after stopping the bleeding and patching me up. I have to say, that’s not what I had in mind regarding “Thanksgiving tips”. So: not only will knives slide easily through spinach, but they will go through finger and fingernail like a hot knife through butter after being sharpened by this whetstone. Very clean, straight cut. Impressive, really. Just take it slow and don’t be a moron like me.
