I am a student of microbiology and genetics. I have owned this for about 2 years now. It is a VERY nice microscope. Resolution is great, it is versatile, and nothing has broken on it. The bulbs it came with are still working. It is slightly smaller than laboratory grade stereo microscopes, but that is good because lab size ones are quite big lol Too big for my desk. But this one is just a great size. And it allows you to adjust the height to fit bigger objects on the stage. I can't think of anything bad to say about it and I'm just really happy with it. :) Thanks AmScope! P.S. When using the 20X occulars, you might have to get your eyes closer to the lenses to see anything. I find that moving the eyepieces closer together helps me with this.

Bought one of these for the wife and I and had so much fun with it, I bought another one for a Christmas present for my granddaughters. It's really well built and the viewing is fine with quality lenses. I found that I use mostly the upper light on the lowest power. I've never changed the eyepieces to the 20X. Careful cause that upper light gets very hot and I burned my hand twice while changing out the stages. Also, let that light cool down before putting the plastic cover on it. I use a camera adapter to take great pics with my digital camera. Highly recommended.

We bought this for my 8 year old son for his birthday, thinking it would come out every so often when he thought about seeing something up close. It’s been 4 months and it hasn’t left the counter; he uses it almost daily to explore everything from bugs and dirt to all kinds of fluid, anything he can fit under the scope, to include the cut on his leg! It magnifies things nicely and is a sturdy piece of equipment.

Got this for my son's birthday and have had a blast finding stuff to look at. I can't say enough good things about the quality and features this has. Has 2 levels of magnification and 2 interchangeable eye magnifications for a total of 4 levels of magnification to choose from. Also has 1 plastic base plate that is black on one side and white on the other and a glass plate. Has a top and bottom halogen light source, for top or bottom illumination. Only minor gripe is that the top light gets crazy hot so don't touch the metal housing or you will fry your fingers , I also wish the top light angle was adjustable, but for most everything I find it to be more than adequate. Over all I would definitely get again

This is a great instrument. I regret that I went with this cheaper model, but I was unsure of the AmScope quality. I am buying two more from them! This scope is a great tool. I'm adding a camera to it, and it's too bad there's not an affordable trinocular version of this instrument. I'm buying an AmScope high power this week to go with this great tool. Optics are great. Controls are good. The big downfall of the unit is the halogen lighting. While bright and extremely effective, it's also hot, so if you're watching live critters, they may cook or dry out. It's a trade off I knew about, but just be aware of that. Other folks have complained that you can't turn the light down, but I really don't know why you would want less light.

Well built, not a toy. Optics great for the price. Even with 20X eyepieces, a little lower quality image, but still good. Of course there is no 10X as the description says (10X--80X). You have 20/40 or 40/80, depending on the eyepieces. I've used it with a 10X eyepiece one side, and a 20X on the other in order to quickly go from 20-80 without having to change out eyepieces. I know, it's only monocular then, but still good enough for most viewing. Be aware that the light does get hot.

A really wonderful little microscope for the money. I bought this to finish an analysis of organic material and was sort of expecting to be disappointed. It gets the job done, and is very light weight so I can drag it around with me during the holidays. The lighting options are really excellent, though I do recommend having an additional external light if you need raking light for your samples, as the one that comes with the microscope is a but on the weak side when your samples are textured and you need raking light. Make sure you have the right screwdriver for switching magnification lenses, as there isn't one included-- it does, however, come with replacement lights, which is a huge bonus. Highly recommend for students.

Bought this scope for a field microscope a year ago. It operates in my desert precious metals laboratory. Never fails. Extremely accurate. The microscope has crashed to the concrete floor from our counter top 2 times - nothing broke, works fine. Extremely forgiving. Subjected to extremely abusive conditions, dust, dirt, acid fumes, vicious insects, heat, cold, wind. Amazing. Would buy it again and highly recommend it. Cannot beat it for quality and price.

All the stars. For sure! WE LOVE it! More importantly, all the kids (3) and all their friends and all the parents' friends... everyone loves it! If we are having friends over, we can just put it on the table. No need for an icebreaker! :) It has a really good depth of focus. It allows you to grab things with tweezers, disassembly (watches etc) dissection (even teff seeds). Try looking at ice cream sprinkles. They look like bowling balls, but they're irregular and spotty. Very weird! You can backlight as well as front light, but not at the same time. Good enough to see blood cells as dots. I just have to note that we already owned at least 2 or 3 regular microscopes. It was totally worth springing for the money to get the improved view!

I got this scope to help hone my straight razors. I'm able to see any micro chips or defects in the edge that you couldn't normally see or even feel. It also helps me to know if my honing stone or lapping compound is working properly. They say honing a razor is an art, well I'm to old to go to art class, so ill take any advantage I can get. It's worth ever penny and it works perfect. Oh you can use it to look at bugs, but I can't see why anyone would want to look at a bug, yuck.
