I bought these filters and the bowl last year around this time. My "test year" has gone well: it really helps with keeping the bowl clean. Maybe my dog drinks more water and thinks it is tastier, or not, either way, the primary purpose is to keep icky stuff from growing in the bowl. I can leave the bowl for a week or more without needing to refill, and when I do have to refill and clean, it's much easier--no slime lining the bowl anymore; the filters are definitely worth not having to clean slime. For the filters to work, however, you DO have to REMOVE the clear PLASTIC COVER from the filter packet; the plastic covers are not water permeable and will prevent the water from running across the charcoal and other material that provides purification.

Excellent Deal for these replacements. I bought this after finding them at the local "Big name" Pet store and seeing they were more than 4x the price here. I had actually thought about tossing the entire water feeder because of the price. I am glad to find these here at such a good deal and they were included with Amazon Prime which made the offer ever sweeter. Will definitely be back for more as needed.

I've been using these water filters for several years now and am very pleased with them. Easy to use, effective filtering, and a reasonable price to boot. I have never encountered the "rust spots" that some reviewers have pointed out. I wonder if metal filings might have somehow gotten into the filter material during processing....maybe the manufacturer supplies different types of filters, some include metal, and some batches of base material got mixed up. Whatever the reason, I would have been appalled to find the rust as clearly it had to come from a metal source. Everything else in the unit is plastic. Looks like those incidents were a few years back so hopefully the problem was addressed and corrected. I replaced an old filter with one from the new package and it seems to be just fine....no rust and no errant pieces of charcoal...so far so good!

For people having issues with "rust stains" or water turning green within the month. These filters are not the problem. Ph your water your putting in, if it's not a solid 7.0 on the ph scale your gonna have problems. I personally go to a purified water dispenser, cost me 1.25 for 5 gallons of water. My filter last 1.5 months, probably could last longer, dare I say 3 months per filter.

We have a gallon Replendish water cooler and have been using these replacements for a year. In that year, even though the huge water cooler sits for about two weeks before it runs out and needs to be refilled, we have NEVER had any gross grime or anything of the like. Always super clean water and very minor cleaning required (I give the bottom part of the cooler a little scrub whenever it gets refilled). I never have to watch their water for anything other than to check if it is low! We have never had any issues with Amazon's refills, as some people mentioned, but I will update if we do.

So glad the water dispenser by Petmate turned out to work so well for keeping my dogs water clean. The added bonus is that it contains a filter to filter normal tap water. My dogs love it and their water is always clean! It worked so well ,I ordered another one . Kmorris1-Texas

My sister and I use these for our dogs because these days you never know if water is safe. Our water is filtered, and for dogs I take extra care that the dogs get the best water possible and keep them healthy. The dogs drink it the water and I feel confident they are getting the best with this filtered charcoal pads. I recommend this to everyone on dogs, cats, etc.

I love these, when they are inexpensive! As, they are necessary to use in the drinking dispenser. Great concept! They can be expensive, when not marked down, but for a couple bucks on subscribe and save, they are a great value! My dog gets filtered water, but the added charcoal filter is great and like I said; it works better with them in than out. They have been as high as $6, which is too much for me.

So they are a perfect replacement and seem to be made in the same way. It also seems like it takes the same amount of time to for the water to filter though, which is a good sign as well. Besides that just make sure you soak them well before use (like any charcoal/activated charcoal filter you buy) and you'll be happy. I have 2 bowls that use these and 1 that doesn't (need to replace that at some point) and the dogs chose the one with the new filter in it first. Hope this is helpful, let me know if it is.

Our Petmate Replendish is very convenient and I have been using it for the last 3 years for our 2 Cocker Spaniels. It's great not to have to worry about them being without water if we're gone all day. I appreciate finding these replacement filters more reasonable on Amazon, as they are higher at the pet store in our town. We have well water and I hope it helps filter out some of the mineral content so it tastes better for them. Don't know for sure but it can't hurt, right?
