i've had a blue version of this one ever since i got my car in 2009. it's still working great, even when i stupidly leaving it connected to the windshield in the scorching, summer Texas sun. brother got a car of his own and even though he doesn't necessarily speed, i got it for him (maybe for my sake) but just to make sure he's "careful" this black version looks so better than mine that i'm really tempted to be that spoiler older brother that gets every new and hands all his old stuff to his siblings. anyways, before i go off onto another tangent, it's working just like mine.

Great brand, and a great product! Anyone that knows Escort knows that they are top tier radar detectors. (Side note: anyone in the Virginia area knows there are signs of aerial speed monitoring of traffic on major highways and interstates. Well at the time, I did not know it was illegal to use, much less have a radar detector in your car in Virginia. Well long story short, I had mine on in my car driving through HWY 54 and suddenly got a constant laser warning that did not shut off for several minutes. I had to unplug it to stop the incessant audible warning. But you should know, there was no cops cars anywhere in site. That led me to believe, that they do indeed have some sort of planes monitoring traffic. )

This thing is fking amazing... I've had it for about 5 months and it has saved my ass so many times... it picks up cop cars from about 1/8 to 1/4 of a mile away depending on what setting you have it on and how good the line of sight is.... every band is adjustable, you can turn it off if you don't need to detect it, the display is customizable... the effectiveness of this product is a 10/10... it has alerted me of every police officer that has driven past me or was waiting for someone to speed by... sometimes it detects them so far away I end up thinking they are behind me until I pass them 1 minute down the road... I would definitely recommend this product, it saves lives

Purchased this for my truck....works like a champ. Many features, but my fav is the digital car battery voltage it displays when scanning. This is my second unit for the second vehicle. Others have mentioned that the rear laser detector is useless....I would agree, as i use this one in my truck and mounted it in the overhead console (for that true discreet hidden look)...but regardless of my mounting location, the rear laser is pretty much useless due to the slope of the overhead liner and rear window. If you're looking for a detector that gets the job done, and don't need all those crazy App features that you need to download on your phone ......this is the radar for you.

A very good investment for those of you who like to drive in an efficient manner ;) Different modes that dial in sensitivity. I keep in on highway because I'd rather collect too much information than miss some information that could potentially be detrimental. When you switch to City mode, it's less sensitive. Most law enforcement uses Ka or Laser band these days, which this unit picks up very well. Stays in place, just make sure the surface is CLEAN or the suction cups won't stick well. Also, temperature changes affect suction cups so keep that in mind if you live in places where the temperature fluctuates a lot. Volume can be controlled using the dial on the unit or if you press the button on the plug when it's beeping, it'll silence it. The brightness can be adjusted for your needs too. Overall, this is a great unit that does the job well. Highly recommended.

I have been using the Passport 8500x50 since generation one (in the old silver case). My first unit lasted 13yrs and starting having problems with saying needing service. I decided this device was worth replacing so I ordered a replacement generation 3 (black case). I am more than pleased as its even better than its older counterpart. So Pleased in fact I just ordered a second one for my work vehicle. Average radar range gives about 20-30sec to slow depending on highway speeds. Minimal false alerts and maximum range. No frills - No voice, sws, compass, etc. Just does what you bought it for BEST.

Had one mounted on my motorcycle years ago that I paid $500 for. Being in the weather and getting wet it eventually failed. Got a cheaper detector for $69 and it was so so with LOTS of false warnings. This one came up on my feed and for the price I could not pass it up. Works better than my old one and I'm quit pleased with it. Almost no false warnings.

This passport is amazing! It's not too expensive and it's not your average run of the mill $50 radar detector. I use this on a daily basis as my work revolves around driving about 100 miles a day. This outweighs the cheaper detectors because It has an amazing 360 degree protection! I also love the distance in which I can detect radars. It gives you enough time to react. As compared to my cheap radar, the design and sounds is far superior! Trust the other reviewers and buy it now!

Has saved me thousands of dollars in cop tickets. Very sensitive and great for road trips. I have driven over 100,000 miles with this and without one speeding ticket. Worth every penny!! Quick and safe delivery and super easy instillation- literally plug one wire to the detector and plug into the lighter socket. GREAT!!!

Oh sweet baby jesus I love this thing. IT TAKES 3 SECONDS TO REACT. If I sit in the Walmart parking lot and hold it in my legs it quiets down. I point it at the doors (that set it off because the auto doors are radar) it takes 3 seconds to alarm. When I'm driving, I have had plenty of time to readjust speed when getting an alert. I do not do more than 25 over. If you're looking to do 100 down the highway, you need a REDLINE and a laser shifter pro. IF YOU WANNA RACE YOUR PORSCHE DOWN THE FREEWAY THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. If you wanna go a couple over on a route that you know well, this works for you. I use this in New York where the troopers use KA and in Amherst, NY where the cops use K and KA. I get an alert well before I see them.
